Miss Jane Marple ziet er niet uit als een standaarddetective. Eerlijk gezegd lijkt ze er in de verste verte niet op. De giftige pen Als Jerry Burton na een ernstig vliegongeluk uit het ziekenhuis komt, krijgt hij het advies rustig op het platteland te gaan wonen. Maar rustig is het daar allerminst. Binnen de kortste keren is hij bij een moordzaak betrokken. Gelukkig is Miss Marple in de buurt… Wie adverteert een moord! In een Engels dorpje wordt met een advertentie in de dorpskrant een moord aangekondigd. De plaats staat erbij, en de tijd: vrijdagavond om halfzeven. Er zijn behoorlijk wat mensen op de been die bewuste vrijdag, om te kijken wat er gaat gebeuren. Het is het begin van een raadselachtige zaak. Weet Miss Marple raad?

This best-selling author of all time wrote 66 crime novels and story collections, fourteen plays, and six novels under a pseudonym in romance. Her books sold more than a billion copies in the English language and a billion in translation. According to Index Translationum, people translated her works into 103 languages at least, the most for an individual author. Of the most enduring figures in crime literature, she created Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. She atuhored The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in the history of modern theater.

Alle Agatha Christie boeken zijn ontzettend goed, zo ook deze. Ik heb hem weer met plezier gelezen. Ik moet wel toegeven dat de rol van Miss Marple in De giftige pen minimaal was, dus dit verhaal vond ik beduidend minder dan Wie adverteert een moord! Al met al vind ik dit een prachtig begin van mijn leesjaar van 2016.
