Although the writing of this short sci-fi/bdsm romance was fairly good, the subject matter was not to my taste. I felt it needed more of a storyline because it just really seemed like a lesson in the culture of dominance and submission. It also had a strong emphasis on punishment and humiliation which I think only appeals to a minority. I don't mind a little spanking, but this story carried it all a little too far for me. I could not wrap my mind around any meaningful purpose and, therefore, it was hard to justify and relate to.

She looks at him she gets spanked. She tries to do chores she gets spanked. She tries to have a life and an opinion and she gets spanked. The hero talks to her like a three-year-old and treats her like a three-year-old even though she is a grown adult. This style of writing and this storyline did not fit the needs that I would consider as an avid reader . Not in enjoyable read for me .

I love the D/s relationship, but Gray tried to assert discipline before Izzy was even aware they were mates! Unfair. Smh. When Izzy refused sex, Gray did the unthinkable!! I was totally appalled with this concept. Gray acted like a spoiled stupid callow boy!
The puppy was a sad excuse for an apology. Gray constantly beat her and tried to keep her in protective bubble wrap. WTH! What an @$$. Not a Gray fan- OVERBEARING BEYOND NEEDED.

My rating system is the book gets 1 star for proper sentence structure and grammar; 2 stars for the previous plus readability and flow; 3 stars for the previous plus a decent/average story with good characters; 4&5 stars for a book that is simply great overall with character growth and development and a great story. This story only merits 2 stars. Weak FC and a MC who clearly only wants a stepford wife. The FC is truly TSTL and says she "loves" the MC even though there is clearly nothing to love other than he is good in bed. She cannot work, wear her own clothes or shoes, express an opinion, swear, or otherwise speak or act in anyway he deems inappropriate. Should she do so, she is spanked. If I were in her position, I would pray for death daily. The MC did not grow to understand her and her needs and the FM was reduced to being treated as a 5-yr old and decided she was happy about it! For example, she was forbidden from going outside for months and when she expressed she was lonely and bored and lacked purpose, he got her a puppy (one that was never mentioned again after that page) and she was fine with this. Her actual response was "how can I be mad when he does such sweet things!" As if a puppy can help on a permanent basis, 24 hours a day, with loneliness and boredom and lack of purpose. Less than average book; not worth the reader's time.

It strikes me that there doesn't seem to be a explanation for the stars that are given. So I thought I'd start giving my take on it.
1 horrible no redeeming qualities.
2 there are redeeming qualities.
3 good worth reading, or well written but not my cup of tea.
4 great but there's something off.
5 loved it.

Loved this book...
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book... I’m beginning to enjoy the spanking and punishment genre so I will defiantly reading more from this author!
I was very happy that the author made the heroine an older woman, instead of her being super young, even though she was still a virgin *wink*
The hero was still older but not by much so I think they were still matched.
Also the author managed to pull of a loving relationship were the hero took it upon himself to take the roll of her mate/lover/father-figure, the author did this so well, without making the heroine bratty or childish.
The author perfected her characters... a perfect possessive, alpha Male, and a perfect strong and independent female, that still needed him to look after her and be dependant on him without being needy.
I just know I will enjoy the next two Book about there children... cannot wait!

It’s terrible and dumb, this is not bdsm this is abuse aliens or not it’s fucking abuse the H kidnapped the h and forced her to be his mate I don’t care if his a good guy or if she liked the sex or if she ended up falling in love with him it’s fucking ABUSE and she clearly wasn’t interested until further in the book..

Interesting premise with a lot of potential, but did not like Grayson or his treatment of Izzy. Hard to believe she could come to love him. Basically she was more a pet to him than a mate. One-and-half stars.

I really enjoy how Morgana Williams writes about aliens. Each of her alien, alpha males are different and intriguing. In The Commander's Mate, Grayson chooses Izzy to be his mate. Izzy is too independent to be chosen and fights Grayson every step of the way. This leads to many punishments and trainings that keep this short book interesting. I love how Izzy slowly begins to love Grayson. It added depth to the steamy, hot relationship these two have. Once again, Morgana Williams delivers a lot of steam and romance packed into a shorter story.
Jack Calihan is a great narrator for the alpha males. He has the perfect voice to make them so dominant and fierce. Mr. Calihan's narration of Izzy is amazing. He has a smooth female voice and brings out Izzy's sass. I loved this listen and could not put it down.

This story is definitely steamy and Morganna Williams knows how to write an amazingly great sex scene. While yes this 3 hour book is probably about 2.25 hours of sex... The other 45 minutes isn't quite believable. The character of Izzy just isn't written well. Her personality changes and isn't true to her character. She is this fiery, fierce woman who fights her mate, but she also gets mad and then suddenly isn't mad. Her character just doesn't ring true, and it spoiled some of the sexy scenes for me.
On the flip side, Jack Calihan is an amazing narrator. I loved his voice and I loved the way he narrates. Even though throughout this story, I would get pulled out of the story due to the poor story... His voice was still amazing and I hope to listen to more stories narrated by him.

Wonderfully entertaining
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to The Commander’s Mate the first book in Morganna William’s Ramelian Saga. Jack Calihan did a great job of bringing the characters alive and I loved his strong firm voice when Grayson had to chastise his mate Izzy. The fact that the author made Izzy 40 and plump went against typical heroine stereotypes and was a welcomed surprise. As was Grayson absolute delight in her. The blurb does a great job of laying out the basic plot so I don’t need to go into the specifics of the story. The epilogue was lovely and was a great segue into the next book The Commander’s Daughter.
I was fortunate to receive this audio via Audiobook Obsession.

Awesome Read!
I absolutely loved Izzy and Grayson's story! I only wish the author would finish up their little series she wrote about their children Melody and Madge finding their mates and at the end of Madge' s story it was leading up to Griffin finding his mate but I haven't found that book anywhere so I doubt since these were published some time ago she plans on finishing them but if you want a good book to read I highly recommend this one then check out Melody and Liam and then Jackson and Madge in that order

So sweet
I love the story of Grayson and Isabella. Grayson was so loving, patient and kind you can't help but fall in love. Isabella was such a strong woman it was nice to see her be cared for and finally loved. I applaud the Ms. Williams for having a sassy 40yo be the heroine and not make her pathetic or belittle her. It's refreshing to read a book about a realistic woman...even if she mated to an alien! Can't wait to read the next books in this series.

The Commander's Mate was a good read by Morganna Williams. Izzy struggles to change a tire and Grayson saves her. Grayson is a male from the planet Ramel. Grayson chooses Izzy as his mate as per the treaty that Earth entered with the Ramel's. Izzy doesn't make things easy for Grayson when he tries to reason with her. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook and can't wait to read more by Morganna Williams.

Amazing Ride
This story was sexy and so darn good. The characters were described amazingly. The love scenes were amazingly shared and the both characters so willing to listen and learn to get an amazing end. This author is writing to all adults who want a love story not a sad story with sex in it. It really makes a lady hope Aliens like Grayson exists.

Great read
So many books are about young sexy svelte women. But this book was about how women really look and the fact that we can still be desirable into our 40's. What's not to like about a woman getting rescued by a tall, hunky alien who takes her as his mate. I really enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.

A quick read to fill a weekend!
The writing style is different but ok. The story has triggers for some. Be warned.

Lovely story.
This is my first Morganna Williams story. I really enjoyed it and will be looking for more by her. A must read if you enjoy aliens and domestic discipline.

I enjoyed listening to this story. It was a different take on aliens and their coming to Earth than I have read previously. The Ramelian's are a different culture for sure. I enjoyed the way that everything developed and went down with the characters. It kinda worked for them. Izzy definitely had an adjustment period and it took her awhile to find her rhythm with Grayson. I enjoyed the dominance in this story. It is very high and pretty much is a Dom/Sub relationship on an all the time basis. All of hte Ramelian's are this way with the males being Dominant. The narrator did a good job with the characters and the story.
