Lenore MacFinley, Lenny to her friends, is a homicide detective, and a damn good one. But when she finds herself next on the hit list, things turn deadly. Broke and critically injured, Lenny wants nothing to do with the handsome, bossy Were Tiger. Jules Golden finds himself tricked into meeting his new mate. He has made a name for himself as a potter and an artist, and is happy with his life the way it is. A new mate isn’t part of his carefully laid plans. “You’re my mate. Do you know what that means?” She nodded, then shook her head. “You either do or you don’t, Lenore. Which is it? Your understanding of our relationship is going to be much easier to explain if you have at least a little knowledge of what’s going on.” “Oh, I understand what it means. I just don’t care. I’m not going to be your mate and you aren’t going to get the opportunity to try and convince me otherwise.” Fate isn’t through with Lenny. The first attempt to take her life has failed, but the nemesis isn’t giving up and is determined that Lenny won’t make it to her 25th birthday. Lenny’s days are numbered and even those that can see the future admit to two possible outcomes, and Jule’s fate is tied to hers. Things heat up and the Golden’s Streak must band together again to protect their own, but when Jules inadvertently gets in the way will they be too late? Find out in the next installment of the Golden Streak Series―Jules.

Jules is the fifth book in Kathi S. Barton's "Golden Streak" series. To be honest, each storyline becomes more in-depth and involved while each new mate is stronger, not only physically or mentally but with whatever supernatural or paranormal power they hold. Lenore, aka Lenny, is no exception. She's the lead homicide detective in a massacre when her Captain arrives at the scene explaining there is a duplicate scene at another address. After finishing the first one, the pair go to the second scene. If the first scene was bazaar, the second scene became a gruesome nightmare that left her Captain dead and herself on the very cusp. Of course, if you've been following the series, then you know Victor and Peter are somehow involved. To top it off circumstances have been manipulated so Jules will take Lenny to a doctor's appointment. Yep, you guessed it, they're mates. Now imagine our quiet, laid-back potter being mated to a loud, opinionated, foul-mouth homicide detective. Secrets come out and trust is both lost and gained by varying members of the cast. Once again, I couldn’t put it down until I finished.

Jules is happy for his brothers, glad they found their mates but doesn't want a mate like any of his sister in laws. They are dangerous, strong willed, have a mind of their own, don't listen and certainly don't do what they are told. When he finds his mate, she is going to be sweet, quiet, take care of his needs and do what he tells her to do. When he finds his mate, he is sure that the fates have made a mistake because Lenore MacFinley is a seasoned cop, strong willed, tough as nails, head strung and even badly injured can kick his ass without breaking a sweat. I really felt sorry for Jules, he just doesn't get why fate paired him with Lenore. The more mistakes he makes, the more ticked his sister in laws get and the more I laughed. Refusing to see the gift that the fates and a little extra outside help have given him cause him so much trouble I did not think he would ever be able to dig himself out. The storyline was fast paced, full of mystery and intrigue and quite a lot of fun. More twists come to light causing some upheaval to the Golden Streaks happy world but making for some interesting drama. The characters were interesting , the drama grabbed you at page 1 and doesn't let you go until you get to the end. Some interesting things are reveled adding depth to the storyline you will not see coming and the series just became more interesting. As always I look forward to the next book in this great tale.
Lenore aka Lenny has had a terrible accident on the job. However, she's the only one who remembers what really happened, while everyone else thinks she's to blame for her boss dying, or that she's crazy and just 1 step away from going crazy. Going to stay with her grandmother to heal, she never expected for her life to change, and she never really expected the one trying to kill her would be someone so close to her.
Jules has his life on track where he wants it. As a potter he is able to work when he wants however long he wants and doesn't have to explain himself to anybody. Fulfilling a favor for his sister-in-law however, has changed his life bringing him a mate he doesn't want. Instead of embracing and worshiping his mate, he decides he knows what's best for her and he will make all the choices, after all she's only a woman and he is the man.
While I didn't think this one was the worst of the series, I didn't love it either. Why was Jules so old fashion like he was and after watching 3 of his brothers and their mates how did he honestly think he could get away with treating his mate the way he did? What's so significant about Lenny being a white tiger when she's transformed?
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book**
Jules & Lenny's (because she doesn't like her real name) story is a HEA standalone with lots of sex scenes & killing (mostly the killing is done by the vampires). Lenny is a very good detective until she almost dies at a crime scene by a vampire that was sent to kill her; she after a month in a hospital goes to stay with her grandmother in Ohio to recuperate some more & while there meets Jules who discovers that she is his mate. Because she's very stubborn & he's set in a way that he thinks his mate should act they have a very rocky start to their relationship & mating. Her mother & Peter's (Peter is the vampire friend of Rayne's) maker Viktor have a common past & when Lenny was a baby Viktor saved Lenny by giving her some of his blood so that she would live & took her away from her vampire mother. That is some of the back story in this book; you'll have to read the rest of the book to find out what happens between the 4 of them. This was an excellent book & I will be moving onto the next one now.
If you like strong, overly- independent women, Lenny will fill that need. Rising to detective very early in her career may have just made her a target. A target for who remains to be seen as she recovers from the attempt on her life. Who do you turn to when the ones that should have your back suddenly don't? For Lenny, that would be the Golden family. Whether she wants to or not, they insert themselves into her life, determined to help her. Jules is one of "those" Golden's who seem to think that she needs him and is her mate. A mate she doesn't want. Jules is a renowned potter and artist. He also doesn't "need" a mate. With interfering family, vampires and tigers, these two don't stand a chance. The only thing that I found lacking, and this is only for me, is that Jules seemed to be a sort of wimp.
This is the 5th installment of the “Golden Streak” series. Lenny (Lenore) is recovering at her grandmother’s house after barely surviving an attack by rogue vampires. Jules is a potter, and a tiger shifter. He is a member of the Golden family. They meet when Browyn asks for his help getting Lenny to her Doctor’s appointment. Lenny does not want a mate, and Jules doesn’t think she is the kind of mate her wants. Of course we know how all this goes. However there is danger lurking as the young couple tries to work things out. Those vampire didn’t just happen upon her, they were sent. Who sent them and why?? Guess you’ll have to read it to find out. I think it was a FANTASTIC book. Ms Barton has done it again.
Jules wanted a mate after seeing how settled his brothers were with theirs. What he didn't expected was Lenore a homicide detective who could probably kick his butt. This book was so delicious that I didn't want it to end. This is a series that just gets better and better as you delve more and more into the lives of the Golden family. Jules was the brother I was waiting on. He wanted a meek woman who would do his bidding. What he got was a fierce woman who was tough as nails and was totally perfect for him. I so love the characters of Peter and his maker Vicktor and hope they receive a book as well. This is a family that I would love to be a part of. Can't wait for Keith's turn who is the last brother and will probably be the most stubborn.
This book will raise the hair on your skin with some of the scenes, but, WOW, what a enthralling story!!!
Kathi S Barton is one of the most unique and imaginative writers that I have ever come across and her writing style is so creative that I have to give her, her due! This is the reason for a 5 star rating, because she just that good!!! This recommendation is well earned and deserved and I wouldn't change a thing about this amazing book and series!!!
This is the 5th book in The Golden Series and it lives up to the rest as being a must read. Meet Jules, a potter, who doesn't want a mate at all especially one that won't do as he says. Meet Lenore (Lenny) a policewoman who is attacked by rogue vampires who have been hired to kill her. You won't want to stop reading this book to see what happens. Would definitely recommend this as a must read. Congrats on another wonderful book Kathi S Barton
This is 5th book in series. Grabs you in from first page and does not let you go. Lots of kick ass action, strong female mate, funny moments, crazy bad guys . We also hear from the rest of the Golden family and they are still just as interfering/helpful as usual. Look forward to Keith's story next
This was such a good read that I could not put it down. From the moment that you pick it up, you are transported to another world. It moved along at a great pace, has characters that you want to know and a story that will not let you go. This is a must read.
