Alysium is a long way from home, and even further from those she holds dear. Her head filled with nightmares, heart torn between forgiveness and despair. She is thrust into a new land, where the war on Agenia feels a million miles away. A place where strangers hold the key to a past she’s never known and dragons fly free. Will she be able to find herself and uphold the duty thrust upon her?
Finally free from the shackles of his father, Lysais must figure out who he is. Shadow Prince. Heir. Soul-bonded. More determined than ever to become everything Alysium could need or want, he must earn her forgiveness, chase her to the ends of an unfamiliar world, and face down dragons to keep his Queen alive. Can he win her heart back or is it lost forever?
With the final battle looming closer, alliances must be made to save not only one world, but all from falling into darkness
ARC Review 💖 Of Dragons & Duty 🐉 Book 4 of The Gatemaker Series Written By: @authorm.brown
Overall: 4/5 Overall plot: 4/5 Character development: 4/5 Pace: 4/5 World building: 4/5 Spice 🌶️: 2/5
Thank you, Maggie, for allowing me to be a part of your ARC team and read Of Dragons & Duty ahead of its release date.
WOW… how much can a princess fae take… apparently A LOT! But first… if you haven’t read Books 1 - 3 (Of Magic & Lies, Of Fae & Betrayal, and Of Shadows & Sorrows), STOP! Do not proceed any further… you’ll thank me cause one follows the next up until book 4.
Of Dragons & Duty picks right up and Alysium and Lysais finds themselves in a new world and learning that dragons exist! As Ally learns that the strangers who take her in are the key to her past and while that throws her in a loop, can she begin to trust Lysais now that he’s freed from his father’s shackles? Or is it too much to overcome and her trust is forever lost?
While Ally figures all that out, why not throw on a new responsibility on her shoulders? Would this harm her soul-bond with Ly? Will this help her cause?
We also get to follow Jacin and Ashlilou’s story since they were separated from Ally. Are they able to free the round up fae? Does Ashlilou see her mates again?
A quick and fast paced fantasy read and new characters are introduced as we continue on this journey with Ally. As many characters there are, it’s easy to follow and the stories, pain, anguish and love are written beautifully.
If you love an adventure filled fantasy with spice and high stakes, this book is for you. Also, who doesn’t love dragons?

ok well where do I start with this book?! We continue Asylium and Lysais' story after the jaw dropping events of book 3. As their story progresses, more secrets are uncovered, new lands are discovered and more questions are answered, however in typical Maggie Brown fashion, you get one question answered and then you have two more!
We are introduced to some new side characters and these add to Ally's story. Ally really grows into her powers and in herself in this book. it was really amazing to see, especially after all her struggles. Lysais sort of redeems himself in this book.... however in typical Maggie fashion, you can never tell! These characters will certainly keep you on your toes and will keep you guessing all the time.
The story delves briefly into what is happening on Agenia and how things with the war with the shadow fae is progressing however I truly loved being introduced to this new world and also being introduced to Dragons! The dragons were amazing!
I truly had so many moments reading this book, emotions from disbelief, grief and sadness to moments of heart warming love and people helping each other in the face of adversity. It was truly an emotional rollercoaster and I loved every second of it.
This is such an amazing fantasy series that I don't believe gets enough credit as this series in totally bingeable. I truly can't wait for the next book to find out what happens next.
Alysium - Is along way from home, she's in a new land where strangers to her hold the key to get past, a past she never knew, this new land has Dragons, ones which fly free. She knows her soul bonded mate, can they make things work when her long lost past comes to light?
Lysais - Can Lysais find out who he is, now he's far away from his fathers shackles? Can he be the soul bonded mate Alysium needs? Can be build Alysiums trust back, in a land unfamiliar to them, where her past she never knew comes to life?
Can Alysium forgive her soul bonded mate? Can she handle the past life she never knew and start living amongst strangers who are family, one where dragons roam free.
This is a beautifully written fantasy novel, one that got me hook line and sinker. The way this authors words get you hooked is amazing! I absolutely ate this book up and eagerly waiting for the next instalment.
The characters are written beautifully, their story, the pain, the anguish and love mixed together, and this author brought them live just perfectly.
Who doesn't love a magic fantasy novel with dragons!
If you are looking for your next fantasy read, I would highly recommend this series.
Get ready! The story picks up with Alysium still stuck in the Shadow King's realm, while Lysais, Jacin, and Ashlilou are on a frantic search for the lost fae. And guess what? Dragons burst onto the scene! Plus, King Havlar might not be the benevolent ruler he seems. Oh, and Ash is off in Agenia with the mountain folk. Meet Dracon, the high lord of Dragnar, and his son Betheir—their past will totally shock you. Lysais is wracked with anxiety over Alysium and terrified of becoming like his dad. Prepare for brand new worlds and a completely unexpected twist for Jacin! The humor is spot-on ("I don't eat people, too chewy"!), blending perfectly with the incredible world-building, suspense, and intrigue. This series is pure gold, and this book is no exception. I'm already desperate for the next one, but I know it'll be worth every second of the wait!
The absolute chokehold this series has on me it crazy! Maggie has once again blown me away with this series. Now there are dragons? My favorite. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
This series is great if you love world jumping, fae, and a touch her and 💀MMC.
This book we see Ally get her sense of self and a sense of protecting herself. Her arc from being almost clueless to this strong, powerful force to be reckoned with, has been wonderful. Ly gets his redemption in this one still isn’t fully trusted by everyone and we really see his bond come through and the touch her and 💀 come out.
Also, Dragons. That’s all. I was already 100% in love with this series and now there are dragons.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Absolutely LOVED the banter of the recap, was a fun lighthearted start to the book. But what an entrance into a new world of Calide Fontes! From the get go I was hooked, a great way to bring dragons into Ly and Ally’s story. I sensed there was something about the angry dragon and loved how this was introduced to Ally, the suspense had me on edge. I think I need to live in Calide fontes and visit those pools and explore the snowy mountains 😍 Loved the growth of Ally through this book with her powers and her relationship with Ly. King Zelaphs closing words have me scared for Ly and Ally in the next book 😩😩
Of Dragons and Suey is a continuation of Maggie Browns The Gatemaker Series. This is book 4 of brilliantly written series.
Currently we find Alysium and Lysais running for their lives with Alysiums mother. Ashlilou helping to rescue stolen Fae from the mines and searching for her lost mates, and Jacins very existence is on the line and in doubt.
Many secret of Alysiums life are discovered as well as the fact that dragon are real.
I have very much enjoyed reading this continued story and look forward to the next installment.
The story of Alysium and Lysais continues in this book. Lysais now free from his father's shadow bond and must find who he really is and earn Alysium's forgiveness. Alysium tormented by nightmares must overcome them as she is thrown into a new world that holds the key to the past that she didn't know existed. Dragons are real. I loved this book and cannot wait for the final one.
I loved this book as the story unravels it only becomes more compelling. The characters are relatable and interesting and draw you in and keep you hooked until the last word. I cant wait to see how it ends!
Once again Maggie has done a spectacular job. Who doesn’t love Dragons? We continue the story of Aly and Ly and find out where the gate they stepped through took them. New mysteries to uncover, new ppl to meet. I devoured this book.
