“I still remember how big my smile was the night I got home after hanging out with you for the first time.”
I have photo proof and some how seeing it hurts 10 times worse.

This book really worded things that hurts for me to admit to anyone...it really hurts still and this book did give me solace and a sense of belonging when it all feels lonely and hollow

It was great to cry to after my breakup.

But honestly, this should have stayed in notes app or instagram captions.

One of the worst poetry books I’ve ever read. I know it’s terrible to say, but this was a waste of paper, considering over half of the things in here were copied from song lyrics and movie quotes.
NOT TO MENTION, the MANY typos.

Not poetry. Off putting one liners that would be better suited as a text message or a song title. Real substance to about 10 of the 200 pages.

Mainly quotes consisting of 1 or 2 sentences and read like writing prompts… a few good gems.

I’ll stick with Rupi Kaur for short poetry that has incredible depth

“This year I lost, won, failed, cried, laughed, loved, but above all I learned”

I didn’t relate to all the poems in this book, but there were a few that really hit home. It was a super quick and easy read, and it was nice to read things that clearly other people are feeling too. Makes you feel a little better about what you’re feeling.

There’s a beauty in the simplicity of this book. Not filled with a lot of over-thought verses, or highly elaborated prose. Instead, every page presents a real and grounded statement that we have to face on a frequent basis. Extremely relatable.

My favorite is 4:52 am by far!

Finished within 25 minutes, short, obviously a poem book, may be meant to read in spurts, I read in a sitting. I went through something similar, could relate, understood the message.

just because we don't talk
doesn't mean i don't think
about you, i'm just trying
to distance myself
because i know
i can't have you...

the worst feeling is when you have to
say goodbye to someone you want to
spend every minute with

Look.... normally I'm a simple girl who likes simple prose poetry, but these weren't anything except short statements over and over. They were just regular sentences and even quotes I've seen/heard elsewhere. The comma placement threw me off a bit too. Overall, it was just waaaaay too basic.

This book is incredible, and I would definitely recommend it to my best friend, since they have gone through things like this with me

“Sometimes the people who are thousands of miles away from you can make you feel better than the people right beside you."

4.00 / 5.00 stars

I Deserved a Better Goodbye is a collection of poems reflecting on a (recently?) ended relationship between the narrator and an unnamed person.

A friend recommended this to me after I told her how much I enjoyed Save Me An Orange by Hayley Grace, and I wish I hadn’t read them so close together. Though they’re similar in style, the narration of this story was just too “stream of consciousness” in comparison. It felt like every time Akhira had a thought, they wrote it down and threw it all together. I wanted to know more about the relationship, more about why the author was in love with this other person, and why the relationship ended. The heartbreak and emotion Akhira put into this story hit hard, but it just didn’t hit as hard as I wanted it to without that context. I likely won’t read anything else from this author as I enjoy stories with more substance.

I would recommend this to anyone struggling with heartbreak and looking for the right words to deal with the grief and get back on their feet.

The book is truly lovely and deeply heart-touching. It feels as though it was written by me — I cannot express how perfectly every word is chosen. The writing resonates with me on a profound level.
Every word allowed me to relive those moments as if I were truly living them — only more vividly and intensely. With each passing second, the feeling of being ignored became more familiar, and things only grew worse. The heartache was unbearable, like a final death that never quite came — all endured silently, for him. But then the transformation began. A glow-up emerged, and freedom of the heart was finally found. Yet even so, a small, quiet piece of love still lingers — waiting for him, without a word to say.

I would like to preface that yes this is a poetry book BUT it pulled at my heart strings in such a "bigger than any of us" way. I cannot in good conscience give this book 5 stars tho, mostly because it's like half a book if that. but the emotions I was going through while reading this book could send me into cardiac arrest. Having loved someone in a way that left me feeling a lot of the things that were written in this book, gave me a lot of closure (while simultaneously making me relive the entire thing). This was a great way to process my emotions (and get a quick read in) and I recommend everyone read some of these books especially when you're feeling a lot of emotions.

I bought this book months back and read the first half. During this point I was definitely starting to fall for something that resembles love. For so long I didn’t have motivation to read the second half. It took losing it a little bit to finally gain motivation to read the second half. If you can’t relate it seems cheesy and like they’re hammering the point over and over, but god when you feel what they’re saying it hits you hard. Wish it didn’t have to hit me this hard.

You can say goodbye in a lot of ways, but not everything has to be beautiful written with feelings. Sometimes a simple god is better than a complex and empty sentence with many words.

Despite all that, there are some beautiful words. I highly recommend this book to anyone going through a painful breakup.

It was good but it wasn't great. It was a bunch of short quotes. Some of those really hit different though. They were short but sweet. The ones in the beginning were kind of cringey. "Stop being cute, you live too far away." But this is definitely a good book for anyone who is missing someone. There really was no healing at the end. This book was not a journey, it was just pain.
