One blink at the playground—and Aaron’s daughter is gone. Dragged into the woods by a man. Barehanded and furious, Aaron charges in. He won’t beg, he won’t break. He’ll bleed, he’ll tear, he’ll kill if it means getting his daughter back.
This is extreme horror. Graphic descriptions of violence and torture.
Jed Kent is a masterful weaver of psychological thrillers and horror, drawing readers into the shadowy depths of the human psyche with his gripping narratives. Residing in the picturesque Pacific Northwest (PNW), Jed finds himself surrounded by the region's natural beauty and enigmatic landscapes, which serve as the perfect canvas for his dark and intricate stories.
Alongside his wife and family, Jed lives a life that balances the tranquility of the PNW with the thrill of crafting stories that challenge the boundaries between reality and the macabre. His novels are not just books but portals to worlds where the line between sanity and madness is as thin as the paper they're printed on. Join him as he continues to explore the darkest corners of the human experience, leaving readers both haunted and eagerly anticipating what nightmares he will conjure up next.
Wowza, this caught me off guard. What a visceral, intense, and barbaric experience. Not sure I've ever used the word barbaric in a review before. But Aaron, our lead, was great. Jed Kent made you feel the full extent of his rage and you just wanted to see more. You knew it wasn't necessarily the right thing to do (No spoilers), but the bloodlust just made you want it. And that twist at the end...my jaw dropped. It shocked the reader in the best way and clarified some of the interactions with his wife that felt out of place. Honestly, it was great. This was my first reading experience with Jed Kent, but, man oh man, I truly hope it's not my last.
Ok, so, I read the reviews about this book. This book that "destroyed peoples moral compass" and that it's "raw, savage fury", "pure nightmare fuel". Let me tell you, its all that and more! Its the wildest ride 29 pages has ever taken me on. It is horrifyingly brutal, and yet I found myself thinking "yep, thats how I'd feel and want to react"....that is messed up and yet terrifyingly truthful. And that ending? Well, hats off to you Jed, well played, well played indeed!!
I do also need to thank Jed. For so kindly offering me a copy of this story when I struggled to find one, although I am now in an emotionally ruined state, staring at the wall thinking What. The. Actual....
(trigger warning, extreme descriptive horror, hard pass at the beginning of Chapter One if you think you may not cope)
In just 29 pages, Jed Kent delivers pure nightmare fuel. One blink, and Aaron’s daughter is stolen — and what follows is raw, savage fury. No police, no mercy. Just a desperate father tearing through blood and bone to get her back.
The writing is sharp and merciless, the violence graphic and relentless. It’s a brutal sprint into madness — and somehow, you can’t look away.
Usually I see twists coming and this one I didn’t. I’m going to blame sleep deprivation.
Aaron is at the park with his daughter Carrie when a random man tries to kidnap her. Aaron witnesses it and stops the man. What ensues is a wild and quick ride.
This short story manages to pull a fast one right in front of your eyes, and I mean this in the best of ways! It's graphic enough to satisfy the fans of extreme horror and as much devious as needed to guarantee a nicely surprising ending. Well-done!
“My Daughter” by Jed Kent is a short, chilling tale that absolutely floored me. My Daughter is an intense plunge into extreme horror, deceptively simple to read but deeply disturbing in its emotional impact. The story builds tension masterfully and delivers an unexpected twist that left me completely shook. It’s a quick read—but the kind that lingers in your mind long after you’ve turned the last page. Not for the faint of heart, but highly recommended for fans of horror that pushes boundaries.
My Daughter is a relentless, spine-chilling thrill ride that grips you from the first page! Brutal, brilliant, and packed with tension, it lures you in—only to flip everything on its head in a finale so shocking it’ll leave you reeling! My jaw literally dropped! If you crave horror that hits hard and fast, this one’s unforgettable.
My Daughter by Jed Kent is an unrelenting, gut-punch of a read. Gritty, intense, and emotionally raw, it captures a father’s worst nightmare turned into a relentless fight for survival. Disturbing and powerful—absolutely unforgettable!
This book is short but packs in ALL the emotions! You will sit long after reading it and wonder what you read. You will question how Jed can fill SOOO much into so little pages. And the answer is ....he is just that talented. One of my favorite reads so far of his (and this is coming from someone who is not a big fan of short stories....because I always want more).
Excuse me while I take a second to bring my jaw up from the floor after reading the last few lines of that story.
What an incredible short story! I stopped at one point chuckling to my husband saying "this sounds like us if anyone tried to take one of our kids from us" . The descriptive language had you absolutely drawn in from the very first few paragraphs and all the way through.
Those last few lines of the story will leave you with your jaw on the floor just like me I believe.
The short story “My Daughter” by Jed Kent is a disturbing graphic horror/thriller that will have you turning the pages as quickly as your fingers will allow. The ending caused me to almost drop my Kindle on my face. I’ve read several stories by Jed Kent and keep coming back for more! This author is not one to spare the graphic details- his writing grabs you by the back of your neck and shoves your face right into the terror…yikes, this sounds like a negative but I do mean it in a good way. After all, who doesn’t need a bit of trauma every now and then? I need to go meditate or do yoga or something.
It's at the playground and Aaron suddenly realizes that his daughter is being dragged into the woods by a man. Aaron will do anything to get his daughter back. It’s a 28-page extreme horror short story with a real kick at the end. That’s a warning for those who don’t like extreme horror stories, but for those who do, it’s a great read. I wavered a little over whether I should give it four or five stars, but finally decided on four.
How far would you go to protect your children? On a quiet afternoon at the park, one father is forced to make a choice to keep his family safe. By the time the afternoon is over, the lives of everyone involved will forever be changed.
If you like your thrillers fast, tense, with a a splash of horror, and a twist that will make you gasp then this is the book for you!
holy terror, this was such a gut punch right off the bat, and I don't even have kids. But the way Jed wrote, I was full on panicking right along with Aaron.
Did NOT see that ending coming, which is rare, and I don't mean in a he wrote this weird and it makes no sense, I mean he wrote this insanely well, and had me shocked.
This might be short, but is absolutely worth the read.
The twist at the end of this fast-paced and brutal little horror story was one I didn’t see coming at all, and it completely reframed everything I’d just read. I always love it when a story pulls that off, and this one nailed it.
If you like well-written extreme horror with a surprising plot, definitely give it a read!
What a book. Amazing. Short story which usually annoys me as I like my books a little longer. First book by this Author for me. I don't want to give too much away - but what the Author has done in so little pages is very creative and that plot twist is so good. I loved it so much and it had me thinking for quite a while after. Well done Jed.
What a f*cking ending! This was awesome. A great horrific read. This author keeps surprising me with their ability to so easily jump genres and still have everything be one of the best! This story plays out like a movie it’s so vivid. Can’t wait to see what comes out next!
WOW… you’d think a book THIS SHORT would be uneventful and not leave such a mark but this DID. most short stories i’m able to guess what’s going to happen but i was flabbergasted by this ending. such a quick read that had me saying what the fuck out loud :3
