Leela Hope

leela hope is a writer with over 22 years of experience in writing endearing children's fiction. Her lively characters have entranced and captivated her audience, and she has taken great joy in writing the three series of books, each beautifully illustrated with love and care. Her stories concentrate on the adventures of floppy eared bunnies and wide-eyed children learning lessons in life, before returning home wiser and eager for sleep. leela hope writes her stories to entertain the very young, but also to educate. Her vision is always of a parent sitting on a child's bed, reciting the stories each night, while the young one drifts off to sleep, lulled into a dream world full of fun and adventure.
From her very earliest years of childhood, leela made up stories in her head, telling them to her younger brother and sister. The stories flowed easily from her mind, and it wasn't long before she realized she had a gift for writing. By the age of 14, she had already written a small book of short stories for her own entertainment, and by the age of 22, she had published her first full-fledged children's fiction in several magazines. leela hope was destined to be an author and she knew exactly what genre of fiction she wanted to dedicate her life too.

Born in San Diego, California, and still residing in the area, leela studied English Literature at Berkeley, earning a degree in 1989. Her writing covers a span of several genres, but she always returns to her first love, children's fiction. She enjoys scuba diving and visiting wildlife parks, seeking new inspiration for cuddly characters for her stories. leela hope lives in an urban area of San Diego and is presently at work on a new book.

This is a cute, short story about a bear who only eats chocolate. I think it's a great teaching tool for little readers who are picky and only want to eat what they want. It teaches them about consequences from poor decisions and how to make better ones.

The only con to this story is that it could use a good edit. There are several grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors throughout the story that are easy to spot and should have been fixed before publishing (this is a running theme with all of her stories).

Cute, bit not great

This was a story about a little bear who only ate chocolate. It seemed a bit preachy at the end, and could use some serious editing and formatting, but was at least readable. The pix were cute, and followed the story well, but didn't seem to add anything extra to the story.
Despite my pickyness, my 5yo son thought it was fine.

Excelente moraleja

Muy dulce redacción que anima a los niños a comer alimentos sanos y variados. Las ilustraciones son muy coloridas y nobles. A mis hijos de 8 y 9 años les encantó el libro y yo lo amé.

This is a story about a bear who will only eat things with chocolate. It is the tale of a bear, who finally learns to enjoy eating things that are good for him. The illustration are just o.k.

An older audience

I thought this was a good preschool story, but my son ended up having to ask me to stop for vocab help. I was expecting something sillier and younger.

Hungry

It was sweet that the bear changed his eating habits, but there needed to be more to the story. It felt a little lacking.

Leela Hope’s short picture book, The Bear Who Loved Chocolate, is beautifully illustrated with delightful images of a bear whose paw is dipped, not in honey pots, but in chocolate. Children will love to spot the rejected foods, and the watching turtle. Guardians will relate to the motherly promise of “lots of other yummy things to eat.” But sweet cuddly bears are less cuddly when they interrupt a chocolate picnic. And tummy ache ensues.

The story is fun, the lesson is wise and naturally told, the illustrations are bright and cheerful, and my only complaint might be that I wish the book were longer. A lovely short picture book for children, and especially for reluctant eaters, this one's bright, cheerful and wise.

Disclosure: I learned it was free so I bought it.

Children's Book:The Bear Who Loved Chocolate (funny bedtime story collection)
Colorful children's illustrated story of a young bear that only eats chocolate. Problem is one day he realizes there is no chocolate in the house and he's sad.
His mother has lots of other food but it's not what he wants. He notices the kids in the woods have a big chocolate bar and he wants it. Problem is, he scares them.
He got very sick after eating all their chocolate and knows his mother is right...

did a child write it?

This was written by a seven year old. It was poorly worded, grammar was wrong, and punctuation/capitalization was incorrect. I would not recommend this story. You would do better to make one up yourself. I would never use this in my classroom.

In terms of being able to practice my Spanish, I liked the book. I find children's books to be very useful for reading practice when you're trying to learn other languages.

It's said that learning a language is easier by reading children's books aloud. I agree - the book was a good children's book and after the third read, I had a better grasp of the flow of spanish and pronunciation (also taking a rosetta stone course at the same time) and could read an average sentence about like a five year old might.

A fun book about a baby bear who loved chocolate.
