For all that cookbook goes on about making more modern takes on the traditional food from the Isle of Berk, there are no main vegetarian dishes. I'm thrilled the people of Berk have discovered spices! I only wish they had also discovered that you can make a full meal without meat.

However, this book is great for the dragon facts scattered throughout it. And it has a surprisingly robust drinks section.

Fun narration by Fishlegs, with chapter introductions from Hiccup. Photos of almost every recipe. Delicious looking and varied. Chapters include: Gruel (Breakfast); Stews and Salads; Sauces, Appetizers, Side Dishes; Feasts (Main Dishes); Grog (Drinks); and Desserts. I appreciate that the drinks are all nonalcoholic, as this is sure to appeal to kids. Recipes are marked as vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free when appropriate, with suggestions on how to achieve that on other recipes.
