This book was sooo cool. I love the costumes and outfits they wore and how it was represented. Mia goths character my fav!!!!!!! Such beautiful jewelry and fashion used
A comprehensive book about the filming of Frankenstein. I love all the photos included and the details about the craftsmen who used their skills to bring this movie to the screen.
'In all the drudgery and sadness and rejection, what else will you do but keep walking toward the sun?' - Jacob Elordi (quoted in the book)
I went to the Frankenstein: Crafting a Tale Eternal exhibition in London and got to see a lot of the props and costumes up close, and that's what made me want this book. It's basically the exhibition in book form, but with even more artefacts and information, and I'm glad I got it.
It's stunning. Beautiful layout with glossy photos, lots of concept designs, and various pages from del Toro's notebooks. It gives some great insight into del Toro's love of the original story and the creature, as well as the film making process and the decisions made by the different creators working on it. The film is beautiful as is, without all the in depth information, but there are so many tiny details that are easily missed when watching the film, and having all that pointed out and a chance to see things up close makes me appreciate the effort and love that went into it even more.
I loved Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and adored how del Toro brought this timeless story to life. Having read this book, I now fully understand why del Toro and Shelley feel like kindred spirits: the same voice, separated by time.
As an artist, it’s impossible not to be completely blown away by the way del Toro and his team approached this masterpiece. Every detail was considered and cared for, from the wallpaper in Harlander’s bathroom (specially designed for the film) to the fully functioning, period-accurate valves on the batteries.
This book beautifully captures what an extraordinary feat this production was and just how much passion and craftsmanship went into it across all departments. Just wow.
Not to mention: the fun little inserts and loose sketches throughout the book felt like a treasure hunt!
This book is stunning. This was an expensive book, but you can understand why from the moment you open it.
The love that GDT has for this story shines through. Not just from the text, but in the quality of the materials used and attention to detail, with the additional pages/fold out sections. I'm beyond impressed.
An excellent view into the production of Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. Very detailed information on casting, set design, costuming and more. I loved all the inserts and ephemera inserted into the pages, it really added to the experience of reading about how the movie was made. This now lives proudly on my coffee table
Loved learning more about this beauty of a film. The work that goes into filmmaking is more remarkable than we can even imagine. It’s definitely intrigued me to read more books of this ilk for other favourite films.
If you haven’t seen GDT’s Frankenstein yet, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
it’s crazy when non-fiction books can make you cry, but reading about the sheer thought, energy and soul that del toro and his entire team put into this film made me so emotional. i don’t think shelley’s work could have fallen into more gentle, caring hands if it tried.
It's breathtakingly beautiful album (almost as beautiful as the movie) with a lot of behind the scenes trivia, concept sketches, set designs and pictures and some glimpse into deleted scenes.
fell in love with this movie the second I started it and how incredible it was to see how Del Toro feels so deeply about this story very heartwarming and so impressive
