I loved the character of author's maternal grandmother. The way he described the story of his birth and his survival out of a deadly illness when he was 2 years old is emotional and relatable. And his grandmother's role in saving him was godly. The amount of strength and hope she showed at those fragile moments was otherworldly. I loved how beautifully author has written about his grandmother, every detail was heartfelt.

The story is a deep exploration how past events and unresolved generational pain have shaped his life and track his experience as he tries to find where he truly belongs. The book book is told with raw honesty as he confronts these emotional challenges. It suggests that peace is found in moving on not in getting from others.
Due to multiple cultural identity, Anselm Ezemson had a very struggled life. From his early childhood, he had to face harsh reality of society due to divisive traditions. Despite a very rough life, how he made a space for his personal growth, healed past wounds, self doubt is very inspiring and empowering.
Some chapters really hit the heart. Struggles with loneliness, secluded isolation, depression were overwhelming but author's bond with Oscar, Joanna was a relief in that lonely phase. It shows how family members can really lift each other and plays a huge role in our happiness.
