Alex Taylor watched as the bottle eagerly consumed her police career and a chance at love.
Now the former New York City Police sergeant has a final shot at redemption as the chief of police in the idyllic small town of Penobscot, New Hampshire, courtesy of her old partner, James Maguire.
What should have been a laidback assignment, soon takes a dark turn when the body of a young woman is discovered floating in the lake. The clues lead Alex down an investigative path that threatens to rip the façade off the sleepy little town and expose its seedier side.
Alex soon finds that, when it comes to sex, murder might just be an option to protect small town secrets.
Perfect for fans of Kendra Elliot, Robert Dugoni, Faith Martin, Robert Parker, and J.D. Robb.

Keeps Interest Going. Small Town With Big Problems.
Several different things are thrown into the mix, none of which we think might occur in a perfect little small town. This new Top Cop refuses to ignore things as the previous long term resident cop did. The author takes us on a interesting ride; and mixes things up to introduce a new series.
Okay, here we go. Well drawn characters in an interesting mystery. Alex is sympathetic, one you want to cheer for. From about midway it is a good book. Then it wanders off, adds characters, and fogs up the story. The attempt at a cliff hanger only leaves the reader frustrated and I, for one, have no interest in following up with the second. Good writer, Mr. Nelson, need to polish up the plots.
Great storyline and character building in this book. The first mystery this year to keep my attention with some great twists and turns. Looking forward to reading more of Alex Taylor.
