Escape to a Scottish haven filled with friends and another fun mystery to solve!

“Finally, she sat back in her chair, resigned to the fact that the children truly could not travel anywhere without some sort of adventure.”

And that is the way it should be… always more adventure to come for this team of young friends, including clever Lara, dependable Tom, impulsive Rufus, energetic Maye, phone-loving Daisy, and loyal four-pawed companion Barney. In this Scottish installment, they are accompanied by adults Mrs. Jacobs and reality TV personality Uncle Logan, with a late appearance by his ever-patient fiancé Dee.

From sleeper trains to secret maps, from ancient coins to playful black cats, from wedding plans to longtime clans, this is a rollicking ride for readers of all ages who remain young at heart. Even Bonnie Prince Charlie plays a role in the plot.

If you have spent time in Scotland near the identified settings, it is easy to envision the true to life nature of author Jemma Hatt’s descriptions. If you haven’t, they should inspire you to go.

This is a perfect family read, whether parent-child or grandparent-grandchild. As a teacher, I am making sure it finds its place along with the rest of the series on school library shelves.

My only request is that Hilda returns in future tales—her eccentricities make her a valuable addition.
