When it comes to love, some wounds only heal with the right ingredients...

I buried my heart along with my husband three years ago. Grief, uncertainty, and moving to Deepwood Mountain to reconnect with my sister—that was my life until he walked into our food truck.

Felix Reeves. Six-foot-three of lean muscle, military chivalry, and a smile that makes me tremble when chopping jalapeños. He fixed our glitchy stove in minutes, but the real problem is the blazing heat he sends to parts of me I thought were long dead.

He's seven years younger, a veteran with a disability, and full of sweetness and light despite all he’s lost. And the way he looks at me, like I'm the special of the day? It makes me wonder what it would be like to have a man like him in my life.

When he asks for help with the Memorial Day celebration, I should say no. I don’t want to reopen those wounds. But I just can’t resist his striking green eyes.

Then Felix reveals he served alongside my husband in the same squad…and I’m suddenly reeling between the past and the present.

Still, each moment with this gorgeous man blurs the lines I drew around my heart. His searing touch, his carefree laugh, the warmth in his eyes when I talk about my dreams—they're melting my defenses faster than queso on a hot grill.

I never expected a second chance at love. But now Felix is showing me that the greatest tribute to those we've lost is living a life full of fiery passion and dedicated service.

Served is a short, steamy, instalove romance where a hunky veteran and a grieving widow discover that healing hearts—like the best recipes—require heat, patience, and the courage to try something deliciously new.

Set in the close-knit town of Deepwood Mountain, Letty (h) thought she had her life figured out: run the food truck with her sister, keep her head down, and survive the grief that’s followed her since losing her husband in Afghanistan. But when a broken griddle and a busy lunch rush bring former Marine Felix (H) into her life, everything starts to shift. Felix is easy on the eyes, handy with tools, and surprisingly hard to ignore.

As the two are thrown together planning a Memorial Day tribute for local veterans, old wounds surface alongside a growing attraction that’s impossible to deny. Letty isn’t sure she’s ready to let someone in again, and Felix has a truth to share that could change everything.

Letty and Felix evolve from individuals carrying the weight of past trauma into people willing to confront their pain and embrace the possibility of a new future. Letty moves from guarded and grief-bound to emotionally open, while Felix sheds quiet guilt for vulnerability and honesty. Together, they grow from hesitant connection to something deep and real, built on trust, healing, and the choice to move forward—together.

Steamy age gap, veteran romance, exploring love after loss, grief and healing, second chances, community support, emotional vulnerability, honoring the past, starting over, personal growth, trust and honesty, and resilience. It’s about learning that moving forward doesn’t mean forgetting, it means honoring the past while choosing to live fully in the present.

Live your life well and with purpose to honor and in memory of those who didn't make it back.

Letty's husband, Jason, was a Marine who was killed in Afghanistan four years ago. After two years of withdrawing from family and friends while mourning her loss, her sister Ellie had shown up on her doorstep to announce that Letty was coming home with her and they were opening a food truck business.

Today the Mariposa Taqueria food truck has stopped at the post office in Deepwood Mountain. It seems almost like the entire town shows up for their weekly visit, but she's working solo today. She'd given Ellie a couple of days off to stay at home with her husband, Kyle, to bond with their newborn, Serena.

Of all days for there to be a problem with the grill, this was not it! A customer waiting in line was able to fix the problem. He's a hottie and the first man she's noticed since Jason's death.

Felix was a Marine deployed in Afghanistan when he lost his left leg below the knee in an explosion. He's in town to help a couple organize a Memorial Day celebration. He works as an outreach coordinator with Second Mission Foundation, a non-profit foundation for veterans. He asks if she'd like to help the committee with planning. But the thought of flags on graves, names etched on tombstones, and speeches is too much for her to bear. She later changes her mind and decides to help.

The committee is meeting in the Deepwood Mountain Inn's community room. The owners, Talia and Sully, have provided a Chinese meal for the committee members. Before they have finished their work, a thunderstorm hits the inn and knocks out the power. The emergency generator only supplies power to hallways, stairs, and guest rooms. Since they still have work to finish before calling it a night, and Felix is a guest at the inn, they decide to move to his room. Will it be the best decision of their lives or a spectacular going-down-in-flames ending to everything?

Vive un poco ..... Live a little

Served is the third book in the Deepwood Mountain Holiday Specials and it is a fantastic story. I fell in love with this one almost immediately, plus it made me hungry from some tacos and guacamole. The story revolves around a Memorial Day celebration that is being planned in Deepwood. Felix Reeves, the Outreach Coordinator at Second Mission Foundation, has come to town to help plan and participate in the event. Leticia 'Letty' Gordon came to Deepwood with her sister Ellie to open a food truck, Mariposa Taqueria, using their grandmother's family recipes. That was two years ago and since then they have become very successful, with a lot of fans of their food. Ellie has gotten married and had a baby during this time but Letty is still single. Four years ago she was widowed when her husband Jason was killed in Afghanistan. Since then she has "lived" with a lot of grief and not been able to get to a happy place again. When she is slammed with a lunch rush and the stove goes out it is Felix who offers to look at it, as he is waiting in line with everyone else. He is able to fix the issue and then helps Letty out with the rush. After lunch she gives him a plate of food and they sit down to talk. This sets off a whole world of possibilities for both of them. But what neither realizes is that they are tied together in an unexpected way....but one that can mean healing for them both and a future that is written in the stars.

A Delicious Blend of Heart, Heat, and Healing

Served by Lexi Hayes is a tender, steamy, and beautifully written romance that stirred all the right emotions. Letty is a widow still nursing deep wounds when she meets Felix, a younger veteran with a heart full of quiet strength and charm. From the moment he walks into her food truck, their chemistry simmers hotter than anything on the grill.

Felix is a dream—kind, capable, and emotionally available in a way that feels rare and real. I loved how he gently but confidently broke down Letty’s walls, never pushing too hard but never backing away either. Their age gap adds an exciting dynamic, but it’s their emotional connection—built on shared grief, hope, and sizzling attraction—that makes this story unforgettable.

Set against the small-town warmth of Deepwood Mountain and sprinkled with foodie fun, Served is the kind of novella that delivers both comfort and spice. It's a beautiful reminder that love can bloom in unexpected places, even when our hearts are still healing.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Sweet, sexy, and soul-deep. Felix and Letty’s story served up everything I didn’t know I needed.

Served is a tender, slow-building second-chance romance that simmers with emotional depth and irresistible chemistry. Letty, a widow still navigating the shadows of grief, has resigned herself to a quiet life helping her sister run a food truck in the mountain town of Deepwood. She’s not looking for love—until Felix Reeves walks into her life and turns up the heat in more ways than one.

Felix is a veteran with a heart of gold, a subtle vulnerability, and just the right amount of confidence. He’s also seven years younger than Letty, and when their connection is complicated by the fact that he once served alongside her late husband, the story takes on a poignant emotional layer. Their interactions are heart-achingly sweet and deeply respectful, with Felix providing both literal and emotional support as Letty wrestles with guilt, hope, and the fear of opening her heart again.

This story isn’t just about finding love again—it’s about learning that grief and joy can coexist, and that sometimes, love comes when you least expect it…served with a side of sizzling attraction and soul-deep connection.

There is so much I love about Lexi's writing. THis story gave the respect of war, loss, and grief. She also allowed love to seep through and change their lives.

Letty is running a food truck trying to keep up. When she has as glitch Felix come into to fix it. He just came to town and is helping set up some vet memorial. Letty is drawn to Felix right away even if she doesn't know what to do about it. After losing her husband she has had a hard long road to recovery.

Felix is drawn to everything about Letty. He can't explain it. He will do whatever to spend more time with her. As she volunteers to help with the vet memorial event it brings them closer together. It was almost ironic that Felix actually knew her husband well, and there when the worse happened, and the prostetic leg to remind himself.

I love how they rose above that to see the love growing between them and the happiness they could have together. It was a refreshing HEA, with a excellent memorial to passed vets and Lettie's husband.

Letty, the female lead, still grieves daily the death of her husband whilst he was in the military. Now running a taqueria truck with her sister, she’s surprised to feel attraction for Felix, the male lead, when he offers mechanical assistance with her truck.

Felix is living each day for the brothers he lost and he’s surprised by how attracted he is to Letty. Then he finds out he lost his leg in the same action where her husband lost his life. He’s ready for a relationship but he’ll give her all the time she needs.

This short story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a short, bittersweet, small town romance about love after bereavement. I enjoyed Felix’s upbeat approach to life and his patient understanding of Letty’s perspective. I empathised with Letty’s grief and her struggle to take the risk of loving again. I enjoyed the supportive secondary characters.

She is working the food truck solo, as her sister is at home with her new baby when the power shuts off in the middle of a rush. A very hot muscley man steps up and offers to help. He is a retired marine back home after losing a leg (disability/vet representation) and is helping with a memorial celebration when he meets her and is instantly captivated. He wants to spend more time getting to know her, but she is also grieving the loss of her husband so they have a delicate road to travel. I didn't realize when I picked this one up that it is adjacent to the McCafferty Customs series. It is not necessary to have read the series to enjoy this quick read but the FMC is the sister to Ellie who sets up the food truck in that series and she and her husband briefly pop up in this one for a fun cameo. This is a a quick sweet read. Second chances.

Served is part of the Deepwood Mountain Holiday Specials series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, reverse age-gap, opposites-attract, curvy widow gets her hunk romance. Letty is a curvy widow who runs a taquerio truck with her sister. She lost her husband 4 years ago in Afghanistan. Jason is a hunky injured ex-marine 7 years younger than her. He is in town to assist with the Memorial Day celebration. He is full of life, choosing to embrace happiness for the brothers he lost. When he meets Letty for the first time at her food truck, he is taken with the curvy beauty. She finds herself drawn to him, too, feeling happiness instead of grief for the first time in a while. They work together for the memorial ceremony, and things get hot and steamy, even after she finds out Felix knew her late husband. They had such hot chemistry, and the ending was so happy. Felix can “fix” my taco truck anytime he wants to 😉

“This wasn’t supposed to happen. Not now, not with him. Not even when it feels so right it steals my breath.”

Beautifully written, steamy but full of heartfelt emotion, quick read about Felix, an ex marine who meets a widowed Letty at her taco truck. Instalove for both of them and my heart melted with how caring they are to each other. While working together on a veteran’s tribute display, a power outage seals the deal. Such a moving story- had me in tears at some points.

This novella was a quick and really sweet read. The author has a great writing style and it felt like the story just flew by. I really liked that both main characters, Letty and Felix, were regular people and not billionaires with attitudes and money. And they both acted like adults with one another, which was also very refreshing. The story deals with the loss of loved ones due to war, and it was done in a very honest and beautiful way. I really enjoyed this one. It had heat, heart and healing all in just seven chapters (plus an epilogue!). Recommended.

Felix is in town for a Memorial Day celebration, never expecting to find something worth staying for. He meet Letty when he visits her food truck. He is a disabled former Marine, that seems to have it together. He talks her into participating in the Memorial Day celebration. He has feelings for Letty but knows something she does not, he served with her dead husband.

As the two become close, he knows he cannot take the next step without being honest with her. This is an emotional ride about a woman finding love again after great loss with a younger man.

Absolutely loved Felix, he is just what Letty needs.

A great short story that packs a lot into it. Letty, whose Marine husband died whilst in service four years ago, has an instant attraction to Felix, who it turns out also served with Letty’s former husband.
They work together to create a tribute board for the town’s Memorial Day celebrations. It’s a really emotional story but heartwarming at the same time, with some steamy sessions thrown in.
An enjoyable story which left a powerful message in honouring those fallen.

Military romances are some of my favorites. This one deals a great deal with grief and the loss of a partner (be it marital or team). The main characters have a great deal in common, though they have chosen to approach their loss from differing perspectives. His experience and insight helps her to take steps she's previously avoided, and he considers new possibilities as well. I enjoyed the honest feel of their connection and the realness of their interchanges.

They have intense chemistry, a beautiful connection, and such kind and caring hearts. Watching them open up with each other after their heartbreaking losses is so sweet, and I cried more than once. This is a beautiful and touching story. Letty lost her husband in a combat mission that claimed almost all of his squad. It has been four years since his passing, and her grief still overtakes her at times. Felix comes to town, working with veterans who are re-entering civilian life. When Letty and Felix meet, they experience an attraction that neither was expecting. This book has a great plot and a twist that I wasn't expecting. This is a fantastic story with the perfect HEA.

This was an emotional read that gives two wonderful characters a fab HEA. Letty's husband was a marine that was KIA. Felix, an amputee, was connected to her more than she knew but the sparks between them were hot ;P The reading ride for this one is bittersweet as we follow a gal struggling with the concept of risking love again. I really enjoyed this small town insta-love romance and all the feels it pulled from me. Well done!

It was my first read from the Deepwood Mountain Holiday Specials, but not the first from this Author.
Letty and Felix's story is very emotional - full of grief and healing. But they are wonderful characters and there is wonderful community. For her - it is too much. Too fast. Too overwhelming. And she is scared of happiness.
Well written, engaging short and steamy read to enjoy.
