In this follow-up to Knit to Flatter, author Amy Herzog is back with more real-talk for knitters. In Knit Wear Love, she guides us through picking a base pattern that works for our inherent shape, then customizing it to suit our size and style—all with the skill of a top-notch teacher and designer and the honesty and humor of a BFF. Known for her uncanny ability to simplify what might initially seem complex, Herzog masterminded for Knit Wear Love an easy mix-and-match pattern system that allows us to choose among the eight key sweater forms (pullover, cardigan, vest, cowl, tunic, wrap, tank, and bolero/shrug); eight fashion styles (modern, classic, romantic, sporty, bohemian, avant-garde, vintage, and casual); a trove of customization details; ten sizes; and three gauges of yarn. The result? Sweaters we can knit with confidence, wear with pride, and love for many years to come.
Great book for customizing sweaters. The patterns are written so you can interchange different elements and necklines to make the pattern you want.
This is NOT a book for someone new to sweaters. You want to already be familiar with sweater construction. (All Patterns are knit with front and back separate and seamed with a mattress stitch).
really enjoyed this! the fact that each sweater style was knit in three slightly different ways really helped me to see the different elements and start to pick out the features that I do and dont like for myself. I love that each pattern also was written for multiple yarn weights and gauges! I feel like this would be extremely helpful for delving into customising patterns. I havent knit any sweaters yet, so I’m not quite there, but I will be adding this to my wishlist for when I’m ready to get into it, and I’m going to be looking into the previous book as well. only a couple of the patterns jumped out as something I would want to knit as is, but I could definitely see me mixing and matching some of the other ones together!
I enjoyed looking at this book, dreaming of the beautiful sweaters I might make. Considering it takes me about a year to make a sweater, it will be quite a while before I can actually determine the value of this book and if the patterns are easy to follow.
While not all the designs in this book really sparked my interest, I still really like it and would recommend it to everyone who wants to knit themselves a sweater. The greatest thing about this book is the customize-ability. While she provides you with her own patterns, she also shows you how to change them and make them your own based on your preferences and body shape. I also liked that the models in this book we're normal model size. Made it easier for me to picture myself in the looks. There are two looks in particular that I can't wait to make.
I personally only liked a handful of the sweaters in this book. Some of the other ones I really just can't see myself wearing. But, I appreciate the fact that it was a modern and trendy pattern book.
Love this! It's more than just another knitting book, it's a jumping off point for letting your creative side go wild. Amy provides a series of meta patterns and a few ideas to get you started for each. I see some depletion to my yarn stash..oh well just an excuse to go shopping.
So great, especially the different styles she lists. Based on her mood boards and descriptions, it was pretty easy for me to determine my style (classic-leaning vintage with some casual items thrown in). I'm definitely going to focus on cropped sweaters from now on.
This book is a kind of sequel to Knit to Flatter. It's a detailed guide on knitting sweaters that fit perfectly that are exactly the style you want that is definitely worth a read before embarking on any jumper-knitting journey.
Love this, but I think I need a class to really get me to sit and do this step by step with a real project. Nothing ever gots me, so I've probably become used to making do,
I love the mix and match format if this book, but the size/style/gauge tables feel overwhelming at times. I'm sure that's less of an issue for buyers of the book than it is for borrowers like me.
Bonus points for having two non-white models and a non-skinny one.
