In A City of Stars and Betrayal, Loraine Umi Hugo crafts a shimmering, sharp-edged world where danger dances in velvet and betrayal is practically a currency. Welcome to Lunaria, a city so vivid, you can almost taste the magic in the air and hear the silk rustle over steel.
Sienna’s tumble into this nightmare feels like falling into a dream laced with smoke and secrets. Her journey, from crash survivor to reluctant power-wielder tangled in the web of a ruthless crime lord, kept me intrigued, even when the pace dipped into slow-burn territory. But oh, what a beautiful burn it is especially with the Hugos writing style.
If you love YA fantasy that leans into dark glamor, slow-building tension, and immersive worldbuilding, this one’s for you. Lunaria is a city I’d never want to visit, but I couldn’t stop reading about it.
