Interesting but somewhat repetitive opening essay. Wish it was an experienced pattern maker doing the descriptions of the mechanics of the design.

I had not heard of Charles James prior to seeing this book. But he was a genius of fashion design, despite having no formal training. He was an influential designer from 1926 - 1978, and created remarkable structural garments. This book examines some of his most amazing designs in detail with photos and diagrams, including the famous "Four-Leaf Clover" dress.
