Some cravings never fade—in the kitchen or the heart
Jules Cuccia has the perfect recipe for success: one part ambition, two parts control, and no distractions. But when her grandmother’s accident calls her back to Riverbend, her carefully measured life starts to crumble. The only thing keeping her grounded is a long-forgotten passion: cooking.
Miles Hoffman, her first love and the boy who “ghosted” her on prom night, is back in town. He’s leading the marching band and living a steady life with the same quiet charm that once made her heart race. The more time they spend together, the more Jules finds herself falling back in love—with cooking…and maybe Miles, too. With a coveted promotion on the line and her soul satisfied for the first time in years, Jules discovers that some dreams take time to rise, and the sweetest recipes are the ones you make for yourself.
This second chance, small town romance features an independent, career-driven woman and the man who’s loved her since high school. Perfectly seasoned with medium spice and an opinionated Italian grandma who loves to cook, Jules and Miles will get their HEA but only after working through the tough choices they had to make as teens. This is a sweet second chance romance with the one that got away. Our heroine, Jules, finds herself crossing paths with Miles, the man who broke her heart from years ago. Will Jules and Miles have a second shot at love?
This is a delightful romantic read, filled with great cooking as the backdrop. Overall, I highly recommend this read.
A fun book that combines romance with cooking! Jules is traumatized by an event at the end of high school and leaves her hometown and family behind. She must learn to accept her past in order to have the life she deserves with the people she loves. Cooking with her grandma helps her understand her past and grow into her true future. The author does a great job describing the growth of the characters as the story progresses, and the descriptions of the meals that Jules and her grandma cook and life in the small town of Riverbend add a little something special to the story. Recommended for everyone who likes small-town, second-chance romances with a side of cooking!
The author draws you in and envelops you in the warm embrace of what it feels like to grow up in a small town and the complicated emotions that often accompany it.
The characters are so richly developed, that they come to life on the page, leaving you missing them before you’ve even finished reading the final acknowledgments.
The author perfectly captures the feeling of revisiting the place you once plotted to escape from, now seen through the lens of adulthood. It breathes life into the beauty of community and the unique sense of belonging that only your hometown can provide.
I knew many people growing up who felt the same way Jules did. The author helps us fondly remember the richness of community; the shoppes and their owners, the town you can navigate with your eyes closed, the familiar recipes that ground you, and the friends and family who love and support you.
This book prompts readers to reflect on what truly feeds their soul. Is it luxurious city living, marked by constant competition? A community where every new introduction carries an unspoken evaluation based solely on career success? Or—as the main character wrestles with—is it spending time with the people who know you best (for better or worse), in a place you know by heart, following dreams that may not be lucrative but might be exactly what you need?
Not only did I finish this book craving phenomenal Italian food, but I also walked away with a renewed perspective on what matters most—and a more tender view of my own hometown memories.
A Recipe Called Home was a great book! Very relatable story and kept my attention the whole time. The descriptions and details made me feel like I was there and could feel, see and taste it all! Her style of writing made me think of Abby Jimenez. I was given the book as a gift from a cousin of the author after I had surgery and it was a wonderful easy read to pass the time. I can’t wait for the next one!
This was a really fun book to read and I thought it was very well-written. An enjoyable, heart-warming story that put a smile on my face. I liked the characters and none of them annoyed me (which is a feat in itself). I loved the author's ability to describe the cooking scenes and the neighborhood; it really came alive for me. I could totally see this book as a TV show. Recommend!
