Our Ex's Wedding

Rate this book
Two people who can’t stand each other must come together to plan their mutual ex’s wedding in this new romantic comedy by Taleen Voskuni, author of Lavash at First Sight.

Ani Avakian was supposed to be the Bay Area’s premier Armenian wedding planner by now. But after a huge blow to her business, she’s determined to redeem herself by taking on the biggest job of her career: a wedding for an indie movie star. The wedding is set at a stunning Armenian-owned winery, and Ani is eager to connect with the owner, who she’ll be working closely with. But then she actually meets him. Sure, Raffi is ridiculously hot and charming, but he’s also insufferably smug. Though the real gut punch comes when Ani meets the happy couple—because the actress’s fiancée is none other than the woman who shattered her heart two years ago: her ex-girlfriend, Kami.

All Raffi Garabedian has ever wanted is to make his father proud. Taking over the family winery should be his dream come true—but its first major event is off to a rocky start, thanks to one irritating(-ly beautiful) wedding planner who challenges him at every turn. He’s shocked to find that they have one thing in common, however: their mutual ex, Kami. Despite the record level of awkwardness, they’ll have to work together to make sure this wedding goes perfectly. But first, they’ll have to deal with the tension sizzling between them—before it turns their ex’s nuptials into a full-blown disaster…or something much more scandalous.

4.5 ★— Is there anything more awkward than meeting your ex’s ex? As this book's heroine quickly learns, yes: having to help organize a wedding with them.

This was so good and perfectly captured what I love in a light rom-com, which is sizzling chemistry, a lively setting, a great supporting cast, and a heroine you can’t help but root for.

And rooting for Ani I was! Insecure in very believable ways, she is desperately trying to hold her life together while gritting her teeth through an excruciatingly awkward wedding-planning situation, and I couldn't help but sympathetically grimace as I got to read her go through it here.

Raffi, this story's MMC, is her classic opposite, with him being a reformed playboy and the wealthy son of a prominent Armenian family. She has a bit of a meet-ugly with him, and from there, the two slowly build a genuinely lovely connection, with him falling hard as she more or less fights to keeps a professional relationship between them.

The story is filled with tons of Armenian cultural references and rich traditions, and as a reader, getting a glimpse into that world was so fun and fascinating!

I also really liked how queerness was handled here. Voskuni highlights how queer characters navigate more conservative-leaning family members and cultural expectations, and how Ani, as a bisexual woman, along with other queer Armenian characters, exists within that space. It all felt thoughtfully explored, while not taking away from the general lighthearted, rom-com tone of the book.

This was just really cute and left me feeling all warm and gooey afterward.

If writing this book was a wedding, I was the tipsy auntie dancing barefoot before page 50. That is to say, I had a blast.
On that note—of me overdoing things for the purpose of writerly thrill—readers may have to suspend some disbelief at the level of catastrophes present with the pages of this novel. Blame it on the 2000s romcoms I grew up on, in which heroes and love interests are dazed and dazzled by some whatsit that crash-landed right into their neatly planned life.
At its core though, this book is my love letter to the burning belief that one person can flip your life’s script and help you become the fiercest, brightest version of yourself. Bit of a slow burn, but I truly believe it's worth it! Happy reading and thank you for picking up this story!

I fear Rafi Garabedian is that guy.

Reformed playboy, former doctor, stylish, AND a member of a feminist book club?! Get in my bed Rafi, now!

And to be fair Ani Avakian is also that girl, she can get in my bed too. We can make it a party!

Our Ex’s Wedding was such a fun read! Laugh out loud funny, heartwarming, & easy to binge.

My favorite parts of this book were the banter (it’s so good) and how absolutely down bad Rafi is from the start! I lovvvveeee an obsessed man!

Whats to love…
- banter is bantering
- bisexual FMC
- reformed playboy MMC
- laugh out loud funny
- open door spice
- meet disaster (my fav)
- he’s down bad so hard and I love it so much
- brimming with Armenia culture

What if we found out not only that we share the same ex but were stuck planning her wedding together.

Ani Avakian has two problems: credit card debt from a failed wedding and unresolved feelings for the woman who broke her heart. When she gets the chance to plan the wedding of a lifetime for an indie movie star, Ani joins forces with Raffi Garabedian, notorious playboy and owner of the Armenian winery where the wedding is to be hosted. Her initial annoyance with Raffi is greatly surpassed by the revelation that the indie star’s wife to be is Kami, her ex girlfriend. Pulling off the career making wedding is now more important than ever, but it means putting faith in a man she does not like—someone whose heart was also broken by Kami.

Taleen Voskuni unveils her third romance, Our Exes Wedding, rich in backstory, Armenian culture, and wedding planning antics. Two perspectives, Ani: the wedding planner and Raffi: the winery owner face past heartbreak as they attempt to pull off the wedding of the year all while fighting for their respective futures. Taleen Voskuni has a knack for intriguing protagonists and this novel is abundant with the character quirks while evolving a truly fabulous romance. Like the feminist book club Raffi stumbled into entirely by accident that helped him better himself, the whisper network, and the queer entanglements. Our Exes Wedding has the kind of setup that makes for not only an incredible romance but deep character study. Characters Raffi and Ani are simply delightful with a magnetic push and pull that kept my heart racing every time they interacted on page. Ani and Raffi love big and fall hard and with all the internal work their love story feels so earned by the time they get their clients to the altar. Our Exes Wedding is big on the details and unconventional in its setup but it all shapes up a wonderful Armenian romance with a queer twist!

Kinda mad that Voskuni didn't make them bi4bi like her other couples but this still stayed true to the witty writing, messy characters and even messier plot and drama I love to read from her. I loved both characters so much and the yearning was so good!!!

I absolutely loved this romcom! The premise is out there (and a perfect set up for hilarious situations.) Two people end up planning the wedding of their mutual ex. Both main characters were so well developed and I loved both of them. The FMC is bisexual and both main characters are Armenian. Raffi and Ani both have fantastic growth and their love is so believable and sweet. I 100% recommend

Voskuni does it again with Our Ex’s Wedding—what a propulsive, sweet, and (as usual) laugh-out-loud funny love story! I cannot recommend it enough.

Unlike Voskuni’s other novels, this time we have a MMC, Raffi, and what an absolute TREAT he is. Peak book boyfriend. Gorgeous (of course), smart as hell, owns a freaking winery, and the kicker is that he’s a reformed playboy going through his own journey of self-discovery and trying to better himself. Don’t we wish all men were doing this???

The FMC Ani is an equally delicious dessert (this book is a bisexual feast, truly) who is trying to save her business while navigating this truly ridiculous, uncomfortable, and for us entertaining situation of planning her ex’s wedding with her ex’s OTHER ex. Honestly could it get any better?

It can. Add in the ambience of Napa Valley and the truly unbeatable MOOD of weddings (and wedding planning mishaps), and the result is a gorgeously written feel-good love story that I could NOT put down.

Let me start with the good, of which there is very little. I loved learning a bit more about Armenian culture.

Now, the bad - literally the whole book. What even was this storyline? And these characters? Both of them were the most insecure people I’ve ever read. Their love was not believable or compelling in anyway. They had zero chemistry. I actually wish I could un-read this. You may be wondering, why don’t i just stop when they’re this bad? I’m still learning how to DNF books lol.

Firstly thank you to Net Galley & Berkley for this ARC. I genuinely enjoyed this Armenian romance and enjoyed learning about the culture as well. I thought the plot was super cute and spicy in its own way. Ani is in debt with her wedding planning business and then her ex Kami comes to her to plan her wedding. She’s still working out her feelings for her but agrees. The winery at where the wedding is taking place is at Rafi’s winery “O” and Rafi is also Kami’s ex. However, as they deal with their old feelings for Rafi they soon realize that they have feelings for each other. I loved seeing both characters developed. Loved seeing how Rafi grew so much. The growth for Rafi was beautiful to see. He genuinely caught my heart. I also loved seeing the growth for Ani too and seeing her work through some of her old feelings for Kami and her own insecurities. I genuinely enjoyed this read!

While I enjoyed this book, I don’t foresee the characters having any staying power in my memory. They were fine but forgettable.

The entire catalyst for this story bothered me. Ani is scammed out of $50k from a couple whose wedding she planned and fronted all the costs for. Rather than suing them or telling anyone (including her lawyer sister), she takes on the debt and lives in shame. Why is she not operating under an LLC? She has a legal background and should have done more to protect herself. I understand that this plot point is needed to continue the story and explain to the reader why she would put herself through planning her ex’s wedding, but I found it very stupid. I feel there could be some rewriting that makes Ani look like less of an idiot who let this couple take advantage of her.

I liked the relationship between Ani and Raffi, though at times, Rafii felt a little love-bomby. I honestly feel like the book would read better without his POV; the reader could discover his true self at the same time Ani does. Toward the end of the book, it felt like a lot of unnecessary stuff was thrown in to cause conflict, but it was all resolved way too quickly and easily to actually matter. The third act breakup made no sense, and felt like it was written by a child who has no real world grasp on adult relationships.

While I would not recommend this book to anyone, I also would not discourage anyone from reading it. I predict I will forget that it even exists within a few months.

Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I will read everything Taleen Voskuni writes! There is something so special and healing about seeing Armenian characters (and queer Armenian characters) in a romcom.

This one was a bit different than her previous 2 books. It's dual POV (with a male main character) and written in 3rd person. I think the start was a bit slow but there was a great set up between all our characters. It's so messy between Raffi, Ani, and Kami and it's great. The premise of planning an ex's wedding is very unique but the plot really wasn't anything groundbreaking. The strength really lies in the main characters - you really end up rooting for them and believing their feelings for each other, their interactions, and their growth. I was cheering Ani on at the end (especially in how her relationship with Kami evolved). I loved the check in with Nareh from her first book "Sorry, Bro", but you don't need to read it to enjoy this one.

Rated 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC ebook.

Our Ex’s Wedding is the kind of novel that pulls you in quietly and then refuses to let go.

From the very first pages, Taleen Voskuni delivers a story that feels both emotionally intimate and sharply observant. This book explores love, loss, and unfinished feelings in a way that feels honest and deeply human. Rather than relying on big dramatic twists, it builds its power through layered emotions, subtle tension, and moments that feel uncomfortably real—in the best way.

What stood out most to me was the emotional depth. The characters feel fully formed, flawed, and relatable, and their internal struggles are portrayed with remarkable sensitivity. You can feel every awkward moment, every lingering doubt, and every quiet hope woven into the story. It’s the kind of book that makes you pause and reflect on your own past relationships without ever feeling heavy-handed.

The writing is elegant and engaging, balancing humor, vulnerability, and introspection beautifully. Voskuni has a talent for capturing complex feelings in simple, powerful language. The pacing is smooth, keeping you invested while allowing space for emotional resonance.

My only reason for not giving it a full five stars is that a few sections felt slightly slower than necessary, but even then, they served the overall emotional arc.

Overall, Our Ex’s Wedding is a heartfelt, thoughtful, and beautifully written novel that lingers long after the final page. If you enjoy character-driven stories about love, growth, and second chances, this one is absolutely worth picking up.

While Voskuni's last romance didn't quite gel with me, this truly felt like a return to form in so many ways. An irresistible premise (both MCs are exes with the bride-to-be), notes of a classic rom-com (and plenty of nods to The Wedding Planner, which holds a special place in my own heart), terrific chemistry, and scorching open-door scenes. It really feels like Voskuni understood what readers wanted more of from her previous books and assembled all of those elements together in this phenomenal new contemporary romance. It only gets better the deeper you get into the book. Plus, there's always that throughline of Armenian representation that the genre unquestionably benefits from. I think this one might just surpass Sorry, Bro as my new favorite Voskuni romance.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this edition from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

this book!! the romcom of my dreams. not only was this one funny and fun to read from beginning to end (i genuinely didn’t want to stop once i began!), it was also packed full of heart, emotion, and so much love. being an Armenian author, Taleen highlighted Armenian culture in this story through her characters and storytelling and i thought it was so beautiful. Raffi and Ani were amazing main characters who were both SO well written, i couldn’t get enough of them. their growth was so heartwarming and inspiring, i was rooting for them both from beginning to end. their playful and snarky banter also had me giggling and kicking my feet multiple times, i ADORED it. Raffi is now one of my new book boyfriends, he’s literally perfect. a man who does your laundry, buys you gorgeous dresses, and is in a feminist bookclub? YES PLEASE. the story flowed beautifully, even the side characters were written with so much depth to them, and i genuinely love the way Taleen writes. also while there are some steamy moments throughout, the spice isn’t graphic at all. it’s about the level of a jalapeño, so if you’re not a fan of super spicy reads, you’ll definitely love this romance! if you’re a fan of enemies to lovers, forced proximity, romcoms, and characters packed full of depth and heart, add this one to your TBR. OEW will be here on January 20th!!

Very cute, no huge miscommunication drama. I just really don't like when characters fall in love almost immediately. I can't get into it like that, it doesn't seem believable. Otherwise great representation. It introduced me to tidbits of a culture I knew very little about previously and that's always nice.

I really should have DNF

The characters feel like tropes and unreal. Raffis POV does not feel like it’s a man at all, and the queerness feels very brushed aside and not as centered as promised. What little plot that rears its head in the third act is so laughable and forced that you just have to brace yourself to get thru it.

Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley for supplying me with a copy of this title to read and give my honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.
When I read the blurb for this book, I was hooked. I love titles that include diversity and this one had a whole big bunch of it. Cultural, yes, but also gender related. It checked a lot of boxes for me. And I was pleasantly surprised with the story.
Ani Avakian's wedding planning business is in debt after she was scammed. When she's contacted by an Indie movie star, she has no clue it's her ex-girlfriend's fiancé. To make matters even worse, the wedding is taking place at a new Arminian winery run by Raffi Garabedian, known to her as a playboy. She just needs to make it through the wedding and get paid so she can get her business back on track.
I really enjoyed how this story was set up. Lots of angst from the main characters. Some miscommunication which I don't always love but which fit well with the story. And a slew of fun side characters. The plot kept me engaged and kept the pacing fast. There were moments when I couldn't help but laugh but also emotional moments that had my heart hurting for the main characters.
I love a good slow burn and this story had that in spades. There was a lot of push and pull between Ani and Raffi and it built the chemistry between them at a great pace.
Voskuni infused a nice amount of culture into this story. I didn't know much about the Arminian culture so it was nice to have this introduction and learn a few things. I noticed some similarities to other cultures. The author also infused a queer component into the story.
If you're looking for a charming romance with unique characters and plot that will have you smiling and rooting for the main characters to finally find each other, give Voskun'is story a try!

An enjoyable romance with great Armenian and LGBTQ+ rep. A wedding planner and winery owner team up to plan a high profile $$$ wedding for their ex-girlfriend, only to fall in love themselves. The premise is nuts, and the reason is dumb. This wedding planner, who is a former paralegal and whose sister is a high-powered attorney, gets scammed out of $50,000 from a former client—and she can’t get the money back. This doesn’t even make sense! The MMC is always just showing up at the right place and right time. To be honest all the crazy things happening at this wedding are 100% because of an inexperienced wedding planner. Like girl! Also she almost drowns in a fountain she already called out for being unsafe. It’s so dramatic and for what?

This was such a cute original romance concept that it had me hooked the entire way through. I loved every aspect of the plot, from the mutual ex to the wedding planning and reluctant allies; the plot always had me engaged and invested in what was happening. I also loved the integration of Armenian culture! I found it super interesting to learn more about their traditions and culture through this story, along with seeing some queer representation. I enjoyed the characters and their dynamic throughout this story, however, I would have been interested in seeing more development from the male main character within this book. I loved seeing Andi develop throughout the story, gaining her confidence back and working through complications from her previous relationship, and I would have enjoyed seeing Raffi work through similar complications in his life as he developed. Overall, I really enjoyed this story. This was a great romance read with a new concept that I really loved seeing play out!

This unfortunately wasn’t for me and it’s ok! I think the premise drew me in but I wasn’t particularly the biggest fan of the characters or how the plot developed. I found them both pretty annoying and the third act breakup was so silly. I don’t foresee this couple lasting in the future, considering they have such a hard time communicating any time there’s a bump on the road. The sex scenes were cringy as well 🫩

I loved the premise (the ultimate bisexual romcom) but the execution was tedious and annoying. The MMC is designed to be the ultimate “man written by a woman!!” to the extent that he is literally part of a feminist book club where he mostly just sits back and listens to the wise women in his life. By the midpoint of the book, both main characters exhibit that particular combination of overly performative emotional intelligence and therapy speak that contemporary romance loves right now, and there’s no real tension between the protagonists for the rest of the book. I’m sure some people really connect with this approach to the genre, but I find it so, so boring. Highlights of this definitely include the MMC internally quoting Audre Lorde to himself when he’s trying to get up the courage to tell a hot girl he wants to sleep with her and the nearly-irredeemable evil ex whose bad behavior is so ridiculous that I started to root for her out of spite. Also, the sex scenes are nearly unbearable; I do not know the phrase “he pumped his love and longing, his gratefulness and belonging, for this woman” made it to the final draft, but…oh boy. And he made her come four times! Wow!

I do wish I liked this more — I enjoyed this author’s first book and will always root for an m/f bisexual romance, but this was simultaneously too messy AND not messy enough for me.

Our Ex’s Wedding by Taleen Voskuni

There are books you enjoy and then there are books that feel like someone cracked open your chest, pulled out the complicated parts of growing up Armenian-diaspora, and said: here, let’s turn this into a romcom with heart, chaos, and cultural precision.

Our Ex’s Wedding did exactly that for me and then some. Buckle in, because this review is a long one.

Taleen Voskuni has quickly become one of those authors who just gets it. The family dynamics, the quiet pressure to be excellent, the nonstop negotiations between tradition and independence, the way Armenian-ness isn't just background texture but a living pulse running through every chapter. I felt so seen reading this book it almost startled me. I kept stopping to underline lines that felt like home.

Ani Avakian is exactly the kind of heroine I love: ambitious, capable, stressed, stubborn, and hilariously human. Watching her navigate the Armenian wedding industry (and the expectations that trail behind it) felt both too real and deeply comforting. Taleen writes the Armenian diaspora experience with such nuance — the food, the aunties, the pride, the guilt, the pressure, the joy — it all felt familiar in the best way.

And Raffi?

Listen. Raffi Garabedian is the ideal “I come off smug but actually I’m soft and trying my best” Armenian man that every Armenian girl knows all too well. His relationship with his father, the winery, his legacy… it just landed. The banter between him and Ani was incredible, but it was the cultural mirroring, that shared shorthand of who we are, that made their chemistry feel so alive.

The moment Ani discovers she’s planning her ex’s wedding and that Raffi once loved the same woman, the book becomes this layered portrait of past love, self-worth, and the emotional cleanup we’re all forced to do in adulthood. It’s not just drama for drama’s sake, it’s the kind of situation Armenian girls know too well: the overlap, the history, the community ties, the feelings you thought you buried.

I found myself nodding along because these are the types of complex diasporan intersections we rarely get represented, especially not with this much humor, depth, and compassion.

There were moments that genuinely made my heart swell. The food descriptions. The references to family roles. The unspoken weight of community reputation. The winery setting. The names. The language. The gestures that only make sense to us.
As an Armenian woman who grew up straddling two worlds, this book felt like someone finally said “here’s a romcom where your culture isn’t an afterthought, it’s the heart of the story.”

Final Thoughts:
Our Ex’s Wedding is chaotic in the best way, full of humor, longing, and deeply satisfying emotional payoff. But more than anything, it made me feel understood. I related to Ani’s drive, her stubbornness, her soft spots, her fears. I related to Raffi’s quiet tug-of-war between honoring family expectations and carving out a life that actually feels like his. I related to the sense of family woven through every scene.

This book didn’t just entertain me, it made me feel at home and honestly? That’s the highest compliment I can give.

If you love messy romcoms, big Middle Eastern/Armenian energy, and characters who feel like your cousins and your family rolled into one… read this immediately.

5 star read for me!

Happy release week to Our Ex’s Wedding by Taleen Voskuni! I loved her previous book, Lavash at First Sight, and still need to read her debut, Sorry, Bro. This third novel is set in the same universe, especially bringing in characters from the first book, including a redemption for Raffi Garabedian.

Ani Avakian is a wedding planner, but after her previous clients failed to pay her, she’s in debt. She can’t refuse the luxury wedding she’s just been hired for… even though one of the brides is her ex, Kami, whom she’s still not over. The big day will be held at Ô, a new winery owned by Raffi, who also happens to be Kami’s ex. What a small world! As Ani and Raffi work together to make this wedding a huge success, they can’t help the feelings growing between them. But are either of them ready for a new relationship?

What I Liked:
- The hilarity of planning your ex’s wedding. Kami has not one, but two exes preparing her wedding, and she’s not at all bothered. But Ani sure is. It’s simultaneously funny and a tad heartbreaking seeing our main characters put on this event, especially since Ani starts off not at all over their breakup two years prior. I appreciated seeing her arc of moving on. I also loved seeing how Raffi and Ani were able to overcome their differences to make this wedding perfect. The more they interacted, the more I loved them together!
- An HEA for Raffi. I still haven’t ready Sorry, Bro, but I very much need to, especially since I now know that one of the main characters in Our Ex’s Wedding first appeared as one of the bros who didn’t get the girl there. He wasn’t so great in that first book, but Raffi has matured a lot since then. It was fun getting to see a love story for him, despite his past mistakes.
- What’s considered “manly.” Raffi’s dad frequently calls out Raffi’s less masculine attributes. Indeed, Raffi likes clothes and shopping and he’s in a feminist book club with all women. I like that he pushes back against his dad’s narrow views on what it means to be a man.
- Queer characters. Ani is bisexual, and the wedding is between two women. The author’s first two books were sapphic romances, and this is the first one between a man and woman, but queerness is still very much centered and celebrated.
- Armenian culture. I loved getting to know Armenian words, foods, and customs (including those related to marriage) throughout this novel. Ani and Raffi are both Armenian American and very connected to their roots. One of the brides is also Armenian, so the wedding has several aspects to honor that culture.

Final Thoughts
I adored Our Ex’s Wedding from start to finish. It’s only January, but this will for sure make my list of favorite romances of 2026. Raffi and Ani are so perfect together, and I just loved their story of finding happily ever after not with their shared ex, but with each other. Taleen Voskuni is an author I can’t wait to read more of!

Special thanks to the publicists at Penguin Random House, Berkley, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book!

Thank you Taleen Voskuni, Berkley Publishing/Berkley Romance, and NetGalley for letting me read this as an eARC!

I loved, loved, loved this book! Ani and Raffi's relationship was so heartwarming to read about as it developed and it made me truly so happy reading this book. I absolutely loved that Taleen made Raffi a reformed playboy and that the impetus for that change was by accidentally joining a feminist book club! Raffi is one of those men that you wish existed in real life. He willingly continued in this book club, wanting to learn from these women and continued his friendships with them and relied on them as confidants when he needed advice on things. I also loved that Raffi continually let Ani take the lead in their interactions and relationships; he respected her boundaries without ever pushing her for more, let her feel heard and respected in their interactions, and was so head over heels for her it made you want to cry. And good lord, can the man YEARN. Ani was brilliant as a FMC--leaving a stable job to pursue her dream of wedding planning, working her butt off to make her business a success, and never taking shit from anyone, even the hot guy you stumble into when starting to plan your ex's wedding. Ani was the consummate professional and I appreciated her ability to maintain professionalism even when it broke her emotionally to do so. I also really loved that Ani was finally able to stand up for herself to Kami and no longer let Kami treat her in ways that hurt her, but confronted her directly and without being mean or ugly to her. These two main characters were precious and I loved every second I spent reading about them. The slow burn was burning--I was dying for them to finally just admit their feelings to each other--and the honesty they both maintained with each other regarding their feelings and their willingness to openly discuss it with each other was SO refreshing. It's the kind of relationship so many of us are looking for. I also loved the POC representation here--being a POC myself, I found myself really relating to the family dynamics both Raffi and Ani encounter in the book. I also appreciated the bisexual representation and that both Ani and Raffi were working in their own ways to change their community's stereotypes of LGBTQ relationships.

This book was a great read and left me with a smile on my face. Would definitely recommend this to a friend, five stars from me :)
