Fast Track: A Mac D Mystery

Rate this book
Mac has been scrounging for cases. Business hasn’t been good.
Thirteen-year-old Josh has hired him to find his coin collection for the princely sum of $25.
He’s in the middle of that nearly pro bono case when Sophie, his on-again, currently off-again girlfriend, comes to him with a problem. Her best friend, Central Coast Network News reporter Linda Carmody, hasn’t been heard from in over a week.

Completely out of character.

Mac's investigation uncovers a financial conspiracy that threatens to topple the government and exposes him to a level of physical danger he hasn't encountered in years.

I and my wife and kids have lived in many, many places, including cool places like the US Virgin Islands, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and now, Australia.

Lots of interesting places to meet interesting people.

I love this author’s writing style; this is the first one I’ve read in this series, and even though the flavour is different from the other book I read the style is still the same brilliant caustic humour with an organized, logical, action-packed plot.

I hated having to put this book down to do things, and the densely-packed intensity of Tony McFadden’s writing always brings a sense of relief and completion that the reader and hero have survived the story.

In this instance having Nick Harding join the fray the way he did was very fitting to the feisty frolicking sleuth he is. I wasn’t expecting the rest of his troupe to tag in to the takedown so that was a fun surprise. I recognized Davie instantly, and definitely appreciated the lighthearted chuckle that brought to the tension.

Closer to the end I began to clue in to the twist, but I was still guessing right up to the confirmation of my suspicions. I don’t like to get ahead of the game so I’m sure others who do would feel more confident of their guesses but I enjoy how Tony McFadden unfolds the details.

The pace and style and mood feel like a Clancy novel, and the characters feel like a Dick Francis cleverly quippy human in a tough spot revealing who they are in how they get out of it.

I consider myself VERY fortunate to have received an ARC, and I highly recommend this book.

This was an absolute duo I did not know I needed lol. This was so good. I am seriously hoping Josh comes back in future books because he is someone Mac needs to keep him on his toes🤣. I'm not a huge fan of kids but Josh would be a good one. I also don't feel bad because like Mac & Nicm, I picked the wrong bad guy. Oops. That one blindsided me when revealed. But what a good twist. I'm looking forward to more!.
