Event coordinator Lauren Randall always has a plan. And getting pregnant after a fling with infamous Ray Donovan is not part of it! Creative and controlling, Ray might be an award-winning movie director, but he's definitely not up for Dad of the Year.
Posing as Ray's date gives Lauren a chance to reveal her secret. There's just one glitch: his ailing grandmother announces their engagement. With everyone assuming she's his fiancée, it's hard to keep a distance—and even harder to pretend she's not falling for her baby's father…
Teresa Carpenter believes in the power of unconditional love, and that there’s no better place to find it than between the pages of a romance novel. Reading is a passion for Teresa—a passion that led to a calling. She began writing more than twenty years ago, and marks the sale of her first book as one of her happiest memories. A fifth-generation Californian, Teresa lives in San Diego, within miles of her extensive family, and knows that with their help she can accomplish anything.
A Pregnancy, a Party and a Proposal continues the story from Her Boss by Arrangement which first introduces us to Lauren and her twin sister, Tori, and their event planning business, By Arrangement. This book picks up where Her Boss by Arrangement left off and it was great to get immersed immediately into the story. Tori is away from most of this book since she just got married and is off on her honeymoon so Lauren and Ray, a movie director and her love interest, are front and center. Their chemistry is smoking but neither is looking for an attachment but that's all about to change. We see his caring side that sometimes blindsides Lauren. As Lauren and Ray fly off to New York City to visit his family for his grandmother's birthday celebration we get a look at all the interactions that they must endure - not only with his family and family friends but with work associates as well as each other. She's hiding a secret from Ray that she initially had a tough time coming to terms with herself and when she finally tells him her news she's not pleased with his reaction. Watching them dance around each other and their feelings was sometimes playful, other times worrisome but always gave us insight into each of them and where they are coming from. Lauren's rules that she sets up when they go to New York are a hoot and are easily broken by one or the other of them if not both. It's fun to see him shower her with gifts and try to take care of her which she wants no part of, or does she?
There are laughter, tears, secrets, confidences, family and friends, whirlwind trips through the city, sorrow, happiness, romance and love. Watching Lauren and Ray take two steps back for each step forward was sometimes hard to watch. Ray had his soft and cuddly side but he didn't let anyone see it too often and never any of his previous girlfriends or companions. Seeing how they each interacted with his grandmother, Mamo, was heartwarming, even if she is a romantic at heart and causes them more pain and problems to deal with. Lauren fits right in with the family as if she's known them her whole life not just a few days. There is nice closure and a happily ever after especially with the epilogue and the loose ends are tied up. It would be great for the story to continue in a holiday novella, hint, hint!
"The hustle and bustle of New York pairs well with this contemporary romance and the hero and heroine’s upbeat personalities. Readers will embrace this exciting tale about love and keep their fingers crossed for a happy ending" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
