Bronwyn Scott writes historical romances for Harlequin, Mills and Boon. She has 50 titles currently in print with them.
Bronwyn's 2018 release, Dancing with the Duke's Heir was RITA finalist. Bronwyn's 2009 novel, The Viscount Claims His Bride was a RomCon finalist for best short historical, as was her 2011 release, A Thoroughly Compromised Lady.
Kit Sherard is the Captain of the fastest ship in the Caribbean. He makes his living running rum on that ship. Every day brings him danger, excitement and more money than he can spend. He may not be totally respectable, but his money and looks makes him acceptable.
The Bank of England has sent a gentleman named Rutherford to establish a branch in Barbados. Kit is being considered for a board position. When Rutherford's daughter, Brynn, meets Kit Sherard, she can see that the adventure she has promised herself might just be standing before her.
Bronwyn Scott is skilled at creating interesting plots. There is excitement, romance and danger. Her bad guys are really bad. Her hero is strong, virile and sexy. Her heroine is strong, beautiful and sexy. The problem I have with this book is that at least half of it is just a record of the character's thoughts. Most of the action is in the last third of the book. I get bored reading repeats of "I want her, but I'm not good enough." I do not find seemingly endless paragraphs of, "I want him, but I shouldn't," interesting. The book started out with mystery and romance. It ended with the same, but large chunks could have been left out and the story would have been better.
*I received this book free in exchange for an honest review* I enjoyed this story! Having a historical romance but set somewhere tropical was interesting. It was a witty, flirty, fun story. There was a lot going on, never a dull moment. Each page brings you something more to enjoy. This was a wonderfully written romance and I look forward to more from this author. It's definitely one I'll be following from now on.
"Scott hooks readers at the first page and doesn’t let them go until the last word. She hits all the right notes of a high-seas adventure, with dangerous desire set against the strict mores of the British colony. There is a delicious amount of treachery and deceit as she explores the price one must pay for past sins" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
Bryn is a woman of numbers. She's come to assist her father set up a bank. Her story is quite unusual, what with her mother being sick for three years after he come out. Kitt Sherard, has changed his name and his life, coming to the Caribbean to make a new life. And he has. The setting of the Caribbean is beautiful in the book and he presents life there to Kitt as it is unpredictable. Bryn invests her heart in Kitt as tehy sail to search one of her father's plantations, an investment gone bad. Its a nice romance set in a beautiful location that isn't England. The author has spent considerable time researching the location and maritime laws. Good work.
