Tara Pammi

Tara Pammi can't remember a moment when she wasn't lost in a book, especially a romance which, for a teenager, was much more exciting than mathematics textbook. Before long, she was hiding romance novels within bigger textbooks, smuggling them into the home through her unsuspecting younger cousin’s school bag, and cycling more than a few miles to her favorite library to borrow more.

Through numerous ‘true’ loves :-) and traveling thousands of miles from family and friends, her attachment to books and especially romance novels stayed constant.

One fine day, toiling away as a grad student in a basement lab, Tara started typing the beginning of a story instead of her thesis. But it wasn’t until years later, encouraged by her real life hero, Tara realized what she truly wanted to do was to write.

Tara lives in Texas with her real life hero and her two little girls. When she isn't writing or reading, Tara can be found failing in the kitchen, watching TV or making resolutions to exercise more, or even a little.

I think this could have easily been a New Adult novel. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the genre, but if I could find more like this book, I might read more of them. The reason why I feel this has a NA vibe is because both characters are in their twenties and they have the values of the Millennial generation, and they way their lives unfold, but not necessarily just in a negative way. Technology is very prominent in this story, and the fact that Nathan is a self-made billionaire in a novel way that fits the 21st Century. He also seems to be disconnected from the more traditional values that those of us of the previous generation have at our roots, but it's understandable considering his situation. Riya does have more of the traditional values of family and that might be due to her Half-Indian heritage. She's a very smart young woman, and she's had so much pressure and burdens on her, she doesn't know how to act like a person of her age. Nathan takes it up on himself to teach her that and is arrogant enough to believe that his heart won't be touched by her in the process.

Nathan is really quite cruel to Riya in some points in this book. He does it out of self-protection and in his mind trying to protect Riya, but it is still mean. I can understand why he's that way, but it doesn't mean I liked it. Overall, I did think he was sexy hero and he definitely has an impact. I like the way his dialogue and body language is described. I feel that if you met him in real life, he definitely wouldn't be easily dismissed.

Riya's mother is a hot mess. She really had some nerve the way she was talking to and treating her daughter. She had a bad habit of taking advantage of Riya and she betrayed her in a way that was almost unforgivable, and didn't seem to get why. I like that Riya still acts like a grown up with her mom, despite that. I really liked Riya. She's a young woman with a lot of sense, values, and heart and a work ethic that speaks volumes for her young age.

Another reason this feels like a NA is the very spicy love scenes. They feel pretty modern, even for a new Harlequin Presents. I would recommend this to readers who want to try a Harlequin Presents and are used to the typical contemporary romances (ebooks) out nowadays.

I absolutely loved this book and every single thing in it. The book immediately drew me and had me immersed into the love story between Nate and Riya. I went with them on this emotional, painful ride filled with angst thrown on the side that made the story even more delicious. It was the perfect balance of tension, romance and emotion to create a very interesting and enjoyable romance. I took my time to savor it and bathe in its yummy goodness. This was right up my alley and what I expect from a great romance.

Not sure why people are reviewing it so harshly then again "it's different strokes for different folks." And I found it's not uncommon for me having differing opinions from others. There have been books I hated and other people have loved and I don't get it. It's all about individual taste I suppose. I don't always like some modern elements in Presents and prefer the old formula old school which just seems to add more angst, drama and intensity especially if the heroine is inexperienced. That works for me and not for others. And I suspect that is what happened with this one.

Anyway I was a big lover of the character of Nate. It has been awhile since I've read a Presents where I was really digging the hero and found him very attractive but Nate hit the mark for me. He was just so interesting and complex and it took me awhile to figure him out. There was a little suspense to this character of the reason he remained a loner all his life. Once I knew the secret it was utterly heartbreaking and showed how much he felt as well as the emotional pain he was going through. It didn't hurt that he was hot and sexy either.

The character of Riya I felt for as well because she had some much past emotional turmoil that the only way she could cope was shut herself down emotional. She just stayed in her safe bubble without feeling or just living in general. She worked all the time and she refused to explore her passions until Nate came along. He broke down her barriers and challenged her to have a fuller stimulating life. He showed her the way and pulled back the curtain to all new experiences she could explored if she decided to do so. He pushed her and she pushed back until she finally understood what he was talking about. Then she made her transformation which was great to see. Then she came into her own. She stood up and went after what she wanted with only minimal fear.

The angst and tension in the story was pretty spot on or at least for me. The tension pretty much started when they came face to face with one another. There was some backstory between them that caused that said tension and it was delicious. It what brought the edge along with those turbulent emotions going on. Lots of hurt going on. It was just enough tension that it was entertaining rather than overwhelming.

The passion and sexy times were hot as was the sexual tension. It was thick and delicious. Their kissing was scorching. Their lovemaking scenes were red hot and as emotional as ever adding to their intensity. They were very intense and just very enjoyable to watch. I could just go on and on. They were just so good. Beautiful yet hot. The perfect combination.

Just overall this was an excellent book with great balance of elements to create a perfect romance. Pammi just combined all the elements of a great romance that I love and created this great story. No complaints about this book at all. Just everything worked in complete harmony. Loved it.

The Man to be Reckoned With began so compellingly. Ruthless hero determined to have vengeance. Sadly the heroine ruined a potential keeper with her lack of moral clarity and sympathy towards people who caused chaos towards the hero in his youth.

At chapter 4 I gave up. The heroine disgusted me. See the heroine's mom and hero's Dad carried on and affair as the hero's mom was dying. They made her last days on earth a living hell. Their actions had the hero leaving home at 17. Instead of being compassionate towards the hero, the heroine is determined he reunite with the piece of crap who caused chaos as his mother lay dying. What gets me more pissed off is the bad dad had decades to make thing right with the hero. The heroine never sought the hero out before either. She stood by two piece of crap adults in a way condoning their bad behavior by calling the hero her enemy...

I can't tolerate a heroine enabling adulterers as this heroine did.

It was an okay read....I found the hero a bit off-putting. All that angst!!!

The heroine was much more likable......how she remained sane having a mother like hers was truly admirable. I would have been driven crazy.....
She also had such a kind and loving heart..... always thinking of the people she loved first. The hero was darn lucky that she loved him.

Software architect Riya is nervously doing things to her software, Travelogue, when disaster strikes. She’d been a little bit expecting something to go wrong: her business partner and company CEO has been sulking for ages because she won’t put out. But now he’s sold her out to reclusive self-made travel billionaire Nathan, and now Nathan’s making all sorts of threats.

Eleven years ago, Nathan’s dad had an affair with Riya’s mom, and it killed Nathan’s mom. Nathan’s dad is now giving Nathan’s mom’s house to Riya, and marrying Riya’s mom. Riya is going to sell off all Nathan’s mom’s things, which Nathan, and housekeeper Maria, agree should be kept as a shrine and never touched by grubby girls whose grubby moms have grubby affairs. Nathan, who has no sense of proportion, uses his magical billions to make life difficult for Riya.

Who, really, has suffered enough. Her mom is completely self-centred and her dad, who is Indian, went back to India after he divorced her mom and never tried to contact Riya. The only person who has ever been nice to Riya is Nathan’s dad. Riya pretended that she was going to sell stuff to get Nathan to come home, because she wants him to reconcile with his dad. She’s also give up the house when he does, so he doesn’t have to make ridiculous ‘see you in court’ threats, which are a bit embarrassing and make him look stupid.

Riya’s mom and Nathan’s dad are a baffling couple but are summed up as: weak man, frail after recent health scare has decided to make an honest woman of his mistress of eleven years. Who he doesn’t seem to like all that much? I mean, he likes and feels sorry for Riya, so has maybe kept at it with her mom so that Riya had somewhere nice to live? Nope, still doesn’t make sense.

Nathan will maybe see his dad. But he’s still going to punish Riya, because. He’s also going to be all over how freaking sexy she is, all the damn time. First, though, he has to tell her that she’s doing her business all wrong.

‘You’re doing your business all wrong,’ Nathan says. ‘You will immediately build a portal for executive members to buy luxury travel experiences. If you do a good job, I may keep your company going and your employees employed.’ At first I was really bummed by this, because romance heroines so rarely get to have successful and interesting careers, and when they do the hero is always there to tell them they’re doing it wrong and show them how it should be done. Then I got angry, because bugger him, he’s wrong! The bizarre thing about Riya’s software is that this travel thing she does seems to generate income directly from end users. Good god, why? I mean, if I’m on the internet booking travel, what I want is a really good aggregator that finds the best deals based on my search criteria. I expect I’ll have to pay a fee for this somewhere along the way, but I also expect that the company behind the aggregator is making money off advertising and agency fees from the travel providers. Who pays a membership fee, which implies some kind of ongoing commitment, for travel? Is it for discounts?

And if it is for discounts, what’s with Nathan’s ridiculous assertion that there needs to be a luxury travel portal? If you’re going to grow the business, stupid Nathan, you can do customer segmentation within Riya’s target audience (who are buying travel from her) and work out what they want and market more services to them.

And then, then! Nathan takes Riya off to an island he owns in the Virgin Islands, that he’s turning into an ultra-luxury getaway for the super-rich. Riya points out that this level of travel has nothing to do with her software, and she’s absolutely correct. Still, the Nathan wants what the Nathan wants.

Nathan is going to charge $500,000 A DAY for his island. I was so outraged I consulted the internet. While most rentals for private islands aren’t generally made known, in 2012, you could rent Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island for $322,000 per week. There’s currently another Virgin Island with a day rate of (max) $165,000. This doesn’t include a food, but packages were available and were probably expensive, but we’re not within waving distance of half a million dollars. Stupid Nathan. How did you get to be a billionaire again? Plus, he’s vaguely going to do something where non-rich people can sometimes stay on the island for a charity that bears his mother’s name. It’s not a ‘poor people get to go to islands’ charity, it’s some kind of health research charity, because Nathan’s mother died of a health thing, and because her husband had a dirty affair.

At the stupid island of future bankruptcy, Riya observes Nathan’s other woman. Nathan, who is into Riya now, sends the other woman away. Riya earns my respect by being disturbed by the fact that Nathan just threw aside a ten-year friendship and business relationship with a woman who wants something more serious (hint: Nathan can’t do relationships for Reasons beyond being a dick).

Riya was all up pretty likeable. She had a ridiculous mother, which is hardly her fault, and probably shouldn’t have been so earnest and interfering over Nathan’s dad, but nobody’s perfect. She does get some hot and steamy bed times with Nathan, so good for her, but because I thought he was mould I found her taste in wanting him to stay around questionable. The book has a couple of loose threads that are just left dangling that I didn’t like. I was really on board for her being a software architect, although I found some of the insertions of tech speak a bit awkward (do any of us really think the term ‘email client’?). I disliked Nathan so much that the best I can do for him is acknowledge that he ultimately was smart enough to realise that he was onto a good thing with Riya. I still hope someone frees a bunch of raptors on his island and they eat all the rich people.

Heroine is determined to reconcile her stepfather with his estranged son Nathaniel. Hero wants back his family estate and his heritage and the only way to do this is return back home. But when he sees again Riya, his stepsister, things get complicated and their attraction threatens to ruin his best plans.

This is the first time I loved a book from this author. It had everything I want. A sweet virginal heroine who is not afraid to fight for her love, a sexy alpha male with scars inside and out and a heartwarming HEA!

The Man to Be Reckoned With was an enjoyable read and I especially liked the last few chapters. The starting was a little slow but the story eventually picked up pace and I loved the end result.

Riya and Nathaniel were both likable characters and I loved seeing them together. They were totally compatible and their love scenes were awesome. Riya was a software developer and had started a company. She was half Indian, independent, sweet, virginal heroine and did not offer too much resistance towards her feelings involving Nathaniel.I liked her spirit overall. Nathaniel was a tortured hero who liked to maintain his distance from everyone. He was aloof and it was difficult for him to forget his past and move on. The romance was enjoyable because of the main characters awesome chemistry and some very well written scenes between them.

Overall, The Man to Be Reckoned With by Tara Pammi is an enjoyable romance about finding love when you least expect it and would be loved by all the author’s fans.Read More

Very different kind of HP! Would have loved more fun scenes between Nate & Riya...the ending wedding scene and the love scene at the end was hot!

***Valoración 2.5/5 estrellas a 3/5 estrellas***

The H/h annoyed me. Both were living out their fears - that was the theme of the story after all. Hero was afraid of dying/living. Heroine was afraid no one would ever love her. These fears made the heroine needy and the hero cold. and not in a good way.

Heroine had a plan for her life and then blew it up for a kiss. Hero kept pretending he was an emotional rock - devoid of all feeling -but he kept thinking sappy thoughts about the heroine. I didn't believe it because heroine was so . . . weird and they had no chemistry whatsoever.

The very vague/strange business talk they indulged in was also annoying. Hero's business made no sense. Heroine's company made no sense. It was just nonsense. I've heard toddlers at a play kitchen come up with a better business plan than these two.

So I was annoyed. Don't get me started on the mom and dad in this one. Dysfunctional and cliches. I just didn't get the emotions wasted on them.

Not the story for me.

¡Me gustó mucho!

A free copy of this book was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Riya and Nate don't get on, which is a problem since he's her adoptive father's son. Still, the chemistry between the two characters was fun, even if elements of the romance are a bit insta-lovey. I liked Riya as a character but in parts wasn't quite sure about Nate. Still this was a nice quick read and a good way to spend a couple of hours. 2.5 stars.

This was actually pretty good??? I actually enjoyed it which is a first (maybe second) with Harlequin Presents. There were a couple things I didn’t like: Riya continuing and pressing after Nate said No; a couple of other mean actions both of them did; and the whole step sibling thing (which was fine because they weren’t raised as siblings, but it was still weird)

Wasn't the best love story, it sort of all happened in the last few chapters so it got a little boring in the middle but the actual story came together and ended well

In an attempt to help her beloved step father Robert reconcile with his estranged son billionaire Nathaniel, Riya brings Nate's anger down on her head. In retaliation, he buys majority stock in her fledgling company and threatens to destroy it. She and Nate fight it out for the first 25% of the book, verbally sparring and shredding each other.

While their attraction is obvious, Nate has no interest in building a relationship with his father or Riya. He want's to buy his deceased mother's house and leave. Riya olds the sale of the house over his head and threatens not to sell until he speaks with his father. Nate untimatley gives in and is able to come to speaking terms with Robert.

This is not a happy, fun story. It has a lot of deep resentment, heartache and fears that the two main characters had to come to terms with. It was great storytelling and the author made you feel every emotion along with the characters. She allowed you into their world and made you as frustrated, angry and hurt as the characters. I liked Riya. She was stuck in between a rock and a hard place trying to do the right thing for Robert, even when it would have been easier to sell the house and walk away.

Nate had his own reasons for keeping his anger toward his father and his distance from Riya. He wanted her, but knew that he would only hurt her. he kept her at a distance with his deliberate coldness and uncaring behavior. I figured out his reasons pretty early in the story and it made the book that much more poignant to read.

I liked the end of the book. The happiness in living each day in the moment and just enjoying what life has given you. Too many of us forget to do this and we waste way too much time. This wasn't a book that made me happy. It wasn't a book that I will probably read again. However, it was a good read and I liked reading about an indian girl like me. :)

I have to say this book surprised me, I wasn't to sure if I was going to enjoy it but I gave it a chance and im glad I did.
a romance filled With emotions is the best way to describe this and for a short read it was an enjoyable romance.
one thing I loved about this was details. I felt the authors writing when it came to details really captured the imagination. the virgin island that nate owned was so well described I was jealous I couldn't be there. it was like the perfect romantic holiday destination.

I won't bore you with a description of the story that's what the blurb is for but I will say that if your a fan of mills and boon books that centre on gorgeous wealthy men and the inability to love but finding the one special person who can break down their barriers this is the book for you :)

THE MAN TO BE RECKONED WITH By Tara Pammi is an edgy, drama packed page-turner that will rivet you until the very last word. Riya and Nathaniel are worthy opponents both in and out the bedroom. The banter between them carries the story forward. I love the way Tara brings out the emotions in her characters. I would recommend this novel to HP readers looking for a drama packed, edgy read.

"Pammi’s romance is a bittersweet tale, set on a grand English manor. Her enigmatic, loner hero bent on revenge and innocent, intelligent heroine wanting forgiveness play their roles perfectly. But it’s the intensely heart-wrenching conclusion that’s the perfect icing on this drama cake" (RT Book Reviews, 4 1/2 stars).
