He only wants an heir.
I want everything I’m not allowed to have.

SIENNA ROSSI
My life has never been my own. As sister to the Don of New York, the Mafia controls every aspect of my life except one: my secret life behind my computer screen. So, when I’m invited to Paris for the summer to study under the best hackers in the world, I jump at the chance.

Paris gives me fun, freedom, and an anonymous whirlwind romance…until I realize I didn’t return to New York alone. The two pink lines on the pregnancy test change everything—and threaten the stability of my brother’s empire.

Then the man I never thought I’d see again walks through the door: DIMITRI IVANOV, head of the Russian Bratva and father of my child. Our reunion is nothing like our scorching weekend tryst. He thinks I trapped him; I think he’s an asshole. But Dimitri needs an heir, and I need to protect my family. A marriage of convenience solves both of our problems…but at what cost?

Hatred and desire burn between us in equal measure. I have no idea what the future will bring, but the one thing I’m certain of is this: there are no limits to what I’ll do to protect my child.

His Empress is a spicy, dual first-person POV Mafia Romance with a Mafia princess hacker, scarred Bratva Pakhan, accidental pregnancy, hurt/comfort, and ADHD + PTSD rep. It is the third book in the Empire of Royals universe, but can be read as a standalone. See Author’s Note at the beginning of the book for full content warnings.

Is the romance in the room with us? 😭

I was so excited about Dimitri’s story but the only thing I like about him is his nickname ‘Dimi’.
And the only real romance (and it was amazing by the way) in this book is at the beginning, with Declan and Emma in Paris. One night turns into a weekend holed up in a fancy hotel room in Paris. The moment they leave, they drop their aliases and original personalities. But they also forget something else in that hotel room. Guess what? THEIR CHEMISTRY.

Back in the real world, Declan becomes Dimitri and Emma becomes Sienna. Sienna gets pregnant and they get married.

Then we get 200+ pages of them bumping uglies and some boring content.

Sienna supposedly has ADHD but it’s just a label, with no real representation after the hotel scene, aside from her taking her meds of course.

Dimitri needs to be studied. I’m serious, he’s a whole dissertation topic. He was so tender and loving during that weekend in Paris, and then they return to the real world and suddenly I don’t even recognise this man. The entire book, I kept waiting for that version of him to show up again.

Dimitri, whatever you left behind in that hotel room… go back and get it.

He is cruel and selfish. He forces Sienna into marriage, then makes her to go through pregnancy alone. He literally only spends time with her when he wants sex, then avoids her until they have sex again. He skips her doctor’s appointments but still claims to care about her and the baby. He asks his staff not to speak to her and to pretend they can't speak english, further isolating her. His trauma and problems take precedence over everything else (their relationship, the plot, Sienna's needs)

I don’t want to read about a man-child with no real progress or character development until 80% of the book, because nine times out of ten, the “redemption arc” just isn’t worth it. It’s too sudden and unrealistic.

“Wait.” It was my turn to take her hand. “Please, stay.”
Her eyes was warm, but her breath hitched. “I can’t. No one deserves nightmares. I want you to feel safe, but I deserve to feel safe, too. And you have not given me that.”

I don't even like Sienna but

Dump that man like expired milk.

Mafia chaos. Hacker wife. Bratva husband. Accidental baby. Forced marriage.

This should have destroyed me.
Instead, it mostly ruined my patience.

What worked for me
(aka: what saved it from the 1 star trenches)

The opening in Paris was easily the strongest part of the book (I was in delusion mode).

Sienna and Dimitri meeting under fake names, the instant chemistry, the anonymity, the little flashes of softness from a man clearly not built for softness? That worked. Their early dynamic had intrigue, heat and enough tenderness to make me invested fast.

Sienna also carried this book for me.

She was smart, capable, emotionally open and far more compelling than the man orbiting around her. I liked that she was a talented hacker instead of just decorative mafia-sister wallpaper. She had emotional wounds tied to being underestimated and shut out and I was rooting for her the entire time.

We get an early glimpse of her brilliance through her hacking skills which made me even more excited for her character. Unfortunately, that side of her was mostly underused for the rest of the book. I kept waiting for her intelligence and talent to drive more of the story, because the potential was right there.

The final act also had more momentum than most of the middle. Once the danger escalated, people started making moves, secrets were revealed, blood was shed, babies were arriving - suddenly the book remembered plot exists.

Where it lost me
(aka: where my patience was pronounced dead)

The pacing stalled hard

This book spends a huge chunk of the middle wandering in circles. Dimitri avoids Sienna. Sienna is lonely. They hook up. He disappears again.

Repeat until my soul leaves my body.

There were so many chapters where nothing meaningful changed in the relationship or plot. For a mafia romance with a hacker heroine and Bratva politics, it felt strangely low-stakes for long stretches.

Dimitri tested me

Dimitri was my biggest issue.

I love a damaged man. I support fictional men being unstable. But if you’re going to make him cruel, paranoid, emotionally avoidant and repeatedly hurtful, the payoff has to be worth it.

It was not.

He says awful things to Sienna, weaponises her insecurities, neglects her during vulnerable moments and defaults to distance instead of communication. Then when we finally get context for why he is the way he is…it’s so late that it feels like emergency character repair.

By the time the book explained him, I was too busy being annoyed with him.

The grovel never came

And let’s discuss the real crime: There was basically no grovel.

After everything that happened, I needed devastation. Regret. Suffering. Emotional knees on hardwood floors. I needed this man to WORK.

He never truly had to sit in the damage he caused. After weaponising her insecurities, threatening to take their baby, missing her anatomy scan and leaving her alone through the health scare, I needed a real reckoning. Instead, his “redemption” was paperwork guaranteeing custody rights, some gifts sent from afar, a few vulnerable conversations and helping deliver the baby during the final chaos.

Helpful? Sure.
Romantic? Maybe.
Grovel-worthy? Absolutely not.

I wanted this man emotionally humbled, not mildly improved. Instead I got gestures, vibes and plot distractions.

No sir.

The mafia plot underdelivered

The mafia/Bratva side of the story also felt undercooked. We hear about danger more than we feel it. For a world built on violence and power, too much happens off-page or through vague allusions.

Final thoughts

This wasn’t unreadable. It had strong setup, a heroine worth rooting for and flashes of the better book it could have been.

But the middle dragged, the hero frustrated me more than he intrigued me and the emotional payoff never matched the damage.

I wanted obsession, danger, tension and a catastrophic redemption arc.

I got paperwork, nonsense and vibes.

Final verdict

2 ⭐️ - Hot start. Dead middle. Weak grovel.

I came for His Empress and left feeling like Her Patience.

Tropes and Vibes:
• Mafia romance
• Bratva MMC / Hacker FMC
• Marriage of convenience
• Pregnancy trope
• Fake names / secret identities
• Touch-her-and-die potential (underused)
• Emotionally constipated hero
• Late plot chaos
• “This man needs therapy, not a wife” energy
• Grovel famine

MIGHT CONTAIN MAJOR SPOILERS - even though I have tried to avoid mentioning them.

Rating - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spice - 🌶🌶

Trope - accidental pregnancy, age gap, dark romance, Bratva Pakhan × Mafia Princess Hacker, grumpy × sunshine, scarred MMC, marriage of convenience, forced proximity, childhood abuse, found family, touch her and die, angst to love, ADHD and PTSD rep, opposite attract, no third-act break-up, yearning, HEA

Thank you Emilia, for providing me with the ARC of this book because Oh, this was so amazing. All the waiting was so worth it.

One thing I love about Emilia's mafia world is how fun and exciting she makes it. It was filled with danger, pain and grey themes, but it also had so many found family, sweet and heartwarming scenes.

The book had me hooked from the first page- it was angsty, electric, fun, and amazing.

Sienna and Dimitri were more alike than I thought they would be - and that made them so perfect for each other. The first moments after spotting each other were so dreamy. I loved it. Their escapade was breathtaking.

The family's reaction to the news was everything and more. It was exactly what I imagined it would be like.

The whole revelation and post-marriage sequence had me fumming. Sienna didn't deserve that, but that woman was a queen, because GO GIRL!!

I love strong, badass FMCs, and Sienna was nothing less. She was tough, smart, resilient, loving, caring, and so much more. She deserves the top spot. Though I have to admit, this girl did make me slightly furious with her recklessness - but again, I expected her to do nothing else in those circumstances.

Dimitri, on the other hand, was scarred, grumpy, man with had a heart of gold. Yes, he had his flaws, but who doesn't? I loved how he had the chance to show his real hidden self to us. There were moments where I wanted to whack that man, but I also couldn't help but fall for him. His logic made his actions seem reasonable when thought from his pov.

The chemistry between them was electric from the beginning. Their moments together were the cherry on top, sweet, painful, spicy, yet so much more. My personal favourite were the moments were they had amusing banters - so fun.

The yearning and angst had me in a chokehold.

Side characters and plot -
1. My love for Matteo is on a different level; you can never make me hate that man. His love and affection for the people around him always shine brighter than anything. That man was stubborn, but he was attentive and conscientious.
2. Sophia, Juliet and Leona were just perfect. Their relationship with Sienna was lovely.
3. Maxim, Sergey, Sveta, Polina, Aleksei and others were such good characters. I loved everything about them.
4. Clem had me wrapped in her tiny fingers just like she had the whole mafia world.
5. Dimitri's pet was such a refreshing surprise, because I would not have guessed that - but again I couldn't help but love them. They were my favourites <3
6. The ADHD and PTSD rep was done so well.
_________

The spice in this book was so good. It was steamy yet so much more.

Grovelling is my favourite micro trope, and damn, this book nailed it. It was so darn good and worth it. Dimitri grovelling and being on his knees for Sienna was my personal favourite.

AND the character development in this book? Top-tier; I loved it.

Their love wasnt simple; it involved a lot of pain, patience, understanding, and work.

The thrill of the drama had me on the edge. I was panicking, screaming, and crying all at once.

I love when Villains get what they deserve and all I'll say is, this book scratched my itch just right.

The last 20% were pure perfection; they had me feeling so many emotions all at once—well, the whole book had me feeling that, but these were on a different level.

I appreciated how things didn't just magically sort themselves out, but rather took time and effort.

The ending was so darn satisfying and good. I couldn't have thought of anything better. My happy tears didn’t stop till the last sentence.

The surprise towards the end? Aahh, so worth it!! I cannot wait for it to be revealed in future for others.

This book didn’t disappoint me; it was just perfection.

Devoured it.
Definitely recommended.
Overall 5/5.

I’m sorry but he’s cruel, I’m a little tired to justify this kind of behavior because of trauma… he’s just cruel

I didn’t feel any kind of love until the last three chapters, they spent 70% of the story separated because he isn’t in the house and he forces his staff not talk to her, she’s completely alone and pregnant, misses all the doctors appointments and basically ghosts her
Didn’t understand how she hasn’t more pride, she’s a powerful, skilled, rich woman but she agreed to that? Didn’t talk to her brother? Her sister in law? ( I suspect that bitch knew and didn’t care)
Nothing makes sense and there’s no grovel, honestly
Not romantic

I was so excited to be diving into this entry to the series. I actually love accidental pregnancy and I have loved the unique characters and situations Emilia Rossi has explored thus far.

True to form, Sienna is a hacker, has ADHD and she's going under an alias while completing a mission. Dimitri is the Russian Pakhan with a scarred body and PTSD. To add some confusion to the situation, Sienna is the sister to Matteo, the head of the Five Families and Dimitri is the older brother to Sofiya, Matteo's wife. Neither Sienna nor Dimitri are aware of this when they use fake names and have a fling in Paris.

When they meet again in a formal setting, with thier real identities... well, Dimitri doesn't take it very well... he assumes it was all a trick and since there isn't much trust between their families yet, it sets them back even more.

However, Dimitri wants an heir and so he demands a marriage. Forcing Sienna to leave her family and move with him to his home. Where he plans to stay far, FAR away from her until the child is born. Yeah, good luck with that buddy!

The chemistry they shared during that Paris weekend isn't easily forgotten though, so it doesn't take long before they are slipping back into those personas for some off the charts heat. They even roleplay with the names they used during that weekend. Which I thought was an interesting little twist.

I also appreciated the realities explored when Sienna, a person with medicated ADHD, has to drop BOTH her meds and caffine for the sake of her pregnancy. Such a real thing and not one people always think about.

Over all, I really enjoyed this next entry, even if I think Dimitri was a bit hypocritical. He's a very damaged man and seeing him learn to trust is all part of the journey.

4 Stars
4 on the spice scale

CW: elements of kink & BDSM, roleplay, depictions of violence, gore, brief harm to a pet, descriptions of past torture, past child abuse, domestic violence (not between MCs), traumatic birth situation

Spoilers ahead

On one hand I understand the hype, I too have loved asshole mmcs in my time, I mean KA has delivered some of my favourite H's of all time so that says all it needs too. What I cannot understand however is the hype surrounding a mmc who was a complete and utter prick to his PREGNANT wife for over 80% of this book for the thinnest of valid reasons to ever exist🙄🙄. This was utterly ridiculous and that's coming from someone who read the previous book.

Sienna and Dimi met in Paris, they both pretended to be other ppl and spent a weekend together. He left at the end of it. On her return home after some time she realised she was pregnant, as the younger sister of an Italian mafia Don one can expect this caused her some anxiety. Realising that she couldn't locate her baby daddy compounded an already stressful situation. Then at a small gathering she meets her brother's brother in law Dimitri......who turns out to none other than Declan the man from her weekend in Paris. Only Dimitri is the head of the Bratva, her brother's wife's brother and a tenuous arrangement exists between the bratva and the mafia. When Dimitri realises who his "Emma" is he's instantly suspicious her brother sent her to spy but on learning of her pregnancy he proposes a marriage of convenience to her. Now Sienna finds herself in a new home away from.her loved ones and a husband who's nothing like the man he pretended to be.

*******
1)The entire reason for Dimitri's bad treatment is that he thinks there meet up in Paris wasn't a coincidence. She was sent in to spy by her brother. Now if they were strangers I can see this working as an enemies to lovers plot device, why this pissed me off so bad is what the fuck would Matteo have gained? He's married to your fucking sister too asshole? How much of an enemy can he really be? ???????????? And the saddest part was the contrast in the treatment omggggg the way his sister was treated by her brother compared to the way he treated her omg it's a book but y'all I cried,, (I mean I'm on my period but still) . To know she was pregnant and having to go through this shit I hated this man so fucking bad.

He told everyone in the house to pretend they didn't understand English, so he took this young girl away from her family, mind you his own fucking sister was one of her closest friends, and brought her to her new home and basically isolated her. For almost the entirety of that nine month pregnancy it was her and her wolf.

The sex was trash

I've got a lot more I can say, I think I'll add some quotes but my heart hurts for Sienna. Maybe if she wasn't pregnant I could've probably forgiven it but no fucking way man she deserved so much better. And him hiding away watching her on the camera? And his "childhood trauma"? Yeah that ain't excuse shit! I'm tired of giving these grown men excuses for their behaviour, he emotionally abused her and he didn't deserve his HEA. And that 80% abuse with 20% remorse? Fuck that noise!!

ETA another man who didn't like to be touched but still fucked 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄. He wasn't a manwhore but this is something that annoys me so much ughhhhhh.

********

“What are you even saying? You think I’m some manipulative bitch trying to trap you and now you’re saying…what? That you want to marry me?”
The scathing look he gave me was answer enough. “No, Sienna, I don’t want to marry you, but take a minute to use your fucking brain,” he hissed. “Do you think your brother lets me walk out of here without taking responsibility for you and that?” He gestured at my stomach. “Do you truly believe the news won’t spread? Underground whisper networks live for shit like this.

“Sienna,” I said, switching to English. “This is Polina and Svetlana. They manage the house, including the cooking, cleaning, and managing the other staff. You will show them the respect they deserve.”
Her brow furrowed. “Of course, I will.” She turned to the women. “It’s really nice to meet you.”
They didn’t respond.
“They don’t speak English,”

Rage burst through me, white-hot and all-consuming. I closed the space between us. “What you call paranoia, I call survival. Not all of us have lived pampered, sheltered lives. You might be used to getting whatever you want, but in this house, I’m in charge. And if you do anything to harm me, my staff, my family, or Bratva operations, it won’t fucking matter that you’re carrying my child. Have I made myself clear?”

In the short time I’d known Dimitri, he’d broken my heart multiple times. Leaving without a word in Paris, his cruelty towards me in New York, his abandonment of me here in his house. There was no reason for my heart to bleed for him now, but it did—for the pain he carried, for whatever he had gone through in life to build his harsh façade.

“I guess eclairs aren’t very mobile.”
I grinned, but my eyes burned with unshed tears. I didn’t realize how much I’d needed that—to hear Dimitri talk about our baby. It made it feel real. Like I wasn’t alone in this.

“Hello. You are playing. I like play.”
Confused looks and raised eyebrows stared back at me..
“Umm, right. I don’t know any card game vocabulary yet. I just...” Hmm...maybe I could act out my message. “I, Sienna”—I pointed exaggeratedly at myself—“want to watch”—I used two fingers to point at my eyes—“you”—I pointed at the table—“playing cards.” I held up (oml her trying to talk to the staff thinking they didn't understand English 😭😭😭😭I cringed with second hand embarrassment)

slashed my hand through the air, and she flinched back. Rage soaked into every cell in my body. “You’ve spent your entire life being surrounded by panting sycophants who treat you like a princess when all you are is a spoiled rich girl who wastes her days playing a stupid video game so she can escape her pathetic life where no one wants her around.”

“You walk around acting like fucking sunshine when the truth is that everyone around you is paid to be nice to you. I’ve never known such a spoiled, air-headed, naive girl.”

“It is lucky. The second this baby is out of you, you will be moved into a new residence.” Her lips parted, but before she could get out whatever sharp barb was on the tip of her tongue, I forged ahead. “Your behavior in these next few months determines what happens next. If you step out of line again, my heir will come home with me while you leave the hospital with empty arms.”
She inhaled sharply, her hands cradling her belly. “You can’t do that.” Her jaw was set, but her voice wavered.
I leaned over the bed, one hand resting on the mattress and the other grabbing her jaw. “I can do anything. I am the Pakhan.” My voice was harsh and low, like whispered venom. “This is my territory. Everything here belongs to me, including your fucking womb. Do you understand?”
Instead of snapping back with an angry retort, Sienna’s lip trembled. The fight went out of her, leaving only my ugly words to linger in the air between us.
“I understand.” She averted her gaze. “I won’t cause any more trouble, I promise. Just please don’t…don’t take my baby away.”

This wasn’t romance. This was isolation, neglect, and harm—wrapped in a love-story label.

I want to start by saying I respect authors and the choices they make with their characters. But this is one of the rare times I finished a book and felt genuinely upset by how a relationship was portrayed. It made me want to reach out to the author and truly curse her out!

For most of the book, the couple isn’t even together in any meaningful, supportive way. Sienna is pregnant, isolated, and emotionally alone:

* He has staff pretend not to understand English, cutting off her ability to communicate
* She has no support system
* She attends critical medical appointments by herself (including serious concerns about the baby)
* She’s visibly anxious and depressed… and he watches it happen without stepping in

That’s not broody distance. That’s neglect.

Dimitri’s backstory is tragic, and I did feel for what he endured—but trauma isn’t a free pass to hurt someone else. Not repeatedly, and not at this scale. An apology doesn’t undo months of absence, especially when:

* He misses most of her pregnancy
* He isn’t present for appointments or emotional support
* His first “apology” is a quick sorry followed by disappearing again

Sienna deserved better. She’s kind, strong, and capable—and yet she’s written into a situation where she endures all of this and still circles back to him. That didn’t feel earned or healthy.

What frustrates me most is the framing. The story asks us to read this as a grand romance when the on-page reality is:

* One partner doing all the emotional labor
* The other withholding care, communication, and presence
* A reconciliation that leans on apologies and gestures rather than sustained accountability and change

I’m not asking for perfect characters. I’m asking for a relationship that, by the end, feels mutual, safe, and respectful. This didn’t get there for me.

It’s especially disappointing because this series has delivered compelling, swoony couples before. This one felt like a step backward.

Easily one of my favourite book of the year and favourite mafia romance of all time.

I knew I’d enjoy Sienna and Dimitri’s book, but I didn’t know I’d be this obsessed with them.
This book was perfection. From the prologue itself I was addicted and didn’t want to stop.
Sienna and Dimitri’s journey wasn’t easy but I’m so glad they made it. They were perfect for each other. Their growth was amazing.
I especially loved Sienna. She was a fantastic heroine. So resilient, sassy and kind.
Dimitri meanwhile had this tortured hero vibe and he also had the biggest heart. That man would do anything for his loved ones.

The secondary characters were all so amazing. Loved Sienna, Juliet and Sofiya’s special bond. There were so many scenes that made me laugh. Vovyk was flat out amazing.
The climax was done really well and I was on edge the whole time.
I can’t wait to reread this book. Also can’t wait for next book- already so excited for it.

To be honest, I had absolutely no faith in this book until I read the tropes, because the previous books had such promising premises and ended up being some of my worst reads. However, with this one, the author has won me over, and I can say: this is one of the best mafia romance novels I’ve ever read!
I didn’t mind that it was really long; it all wrapped up in an incredible way. I loved it, and now I feel like giving the previous books another chance.

Emilia Rossi continues with another mafia favorite as we get Dimitri and Sienna’s book! Dimitri is the Bratva Pakhan, and Sienna is the Italian mafia princess/secret hacker by night. Their relationship was a one-night stand turned accidental pregnancy turned marriage of convenience.

I loved how these two met - they both needed what they found in each other, and that set the stage for their connection. It took them awhile to get back to that connection, because a lot of conversations, anger, and misunderstandings have to be handled (not always gracefully) before these two can give each other a fair chance.

The author did a great job at showing how a person’s PTSD can DEEPLY affect their relationships. His PTSD didn’t excuse his actions, but it was raw and relatable. Not only did she handle his PTSD with care; she took the time to show how Sienna’s ADHD affected her daily living. That representation is important, especially when done well.

I enjoyed seeing the characters from the past books (Dimitri is the brother of the Book 1 heroine; Sienna is the sister of the Book 1 hero), as well as meeting Dimitri’s Russian found family. Sienna fit right in, and those “family” moments were some of my favorites.

I can’t wait for the next book!

What to Expect: accidental pregnancy, marriage of convenience, Bratva Pakhan, Italian mafia princess, hacker genius heroine, hurt/comfort, ADHD/PTSD rep

Such a dull plot with more misunderstandings no solutions and just constant forgiveness from the h that the H doesn't even deserve. The H literally isolates her physically emotionally psychological, his very pregnant wife. Doesn't even try to actual find out if she is innocent and didn't actually do anything. Goes on to say cruel things to her like seperating her baby from her. Like wtfff. And the h who is the sister of a powerful mafia and rich and independent just sits there and takes it like what in the world is this...

And why are all h so meak and nice and good all the time. Like I want my h to throw temper tantrums every time someone talks bad to her. Why should only these mafia stupid guys have all the fun...AHH so irritating..

And not to forget he didn't even go to the doctor's appointment with her. Didn't know the baby's gender until later like ahhh.. such a ragebaitt this was

There is a HEA though..

This series deserves more recognition; it’s not getting the hype it deserves. I know the accidental pregnancy trope isn’t very popular, but I think it was well done here.

It was nice to get to know Sienna more closely. She’s intelligent, sarcastic, and a bit impulsive. She wants to be free and feel like she belongs. Although she appears strong on the outside, she’s fragile on the inside; she feels guilty because of her past and struggles with loneliness. But she’s truly a queen 👑

Dimitri, because of what he went through in the past, is cold, distant, and suspicious. But deep down, he’s possessive and protective toward the people he loves. I have to admit, I kind of hated him at first… okaaay, maybe a little more than that 😂 But the way he slowly softened toward Sienna and started showing his emotional side was really sweet. The passion between them was tense and intense. Their love was definitely not easy. There was a lot of yearning, heartbreak, distrust, and conflict, but in the end, they got everything they deserved🥹

I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

Notes for me

Dimitri

Sienna.

They meet in Paris. Both using fake names, Declan and Emma. Spend two nights together. Real life hits and Dimitri leaves her asleep with no goodbye.

Five weeks later she’s pregnant and still thinking about “Declan.”

Small world that it is, Dimitri is actually Sofiya’s half brother. With the fake name no one knew.

They meet again at a family/business meeting. Both are shocked, but Dimitri is furious. He’s convinced she seduced him on purpose. He says cruel things to her. He says they have to marry.

Over the months they start to rebuild their relationship. Then a series of events happens and Dimitri tells her she’s a spoiled rich girl. All she does is play her stupid video game to escape her pathetic life where no one wants her around.

Story follows her pregnancy. Also a human trafficker named Souleater. Sienna makes some dangerous decisions.

MMC - says it’s been so many years since he’s had sex. It’s like he was in a fog and didn’t feel like himself. He also hates touch so he had as little contact as possible.

There’s no emotional connection until 80% and the grovelling is literally the bare minimum🫠 I hate that we didn’t get to see the OG sienna a lot in this book like why change that🫥

"His Juliet"

I may have to part ways with this author, I really enjoyed the first book in this series, His Tesoro. Then the second book, His Juliet was a flop, and this book was also a dud. It wasn’t as bad as the second book, but it was meh.

Sienna (27) is a hacker. She’s the sister of the book 1 hero, so she grew up in the mafia. Dimitri (35) is the head of the Russian mob, and he’s the brother of the book 1 heroine. They have a vacation fling without knowing who the other one is, and she gets pregnant. They get married out of obligation, planning to quietly separate after the baby is born, and there’s a half assed threat at the end.

I’m starting to realize that this author always writes the same kind of heroine. She's childish, so sweet she gives you a toothache, spends like 90% of the story just hanging out in the hero’s home, doing nothing, and she bakes and makes friends with his household staff and animals, like she's a Disney princess.

This worked for the book 1 heroine, because she was sheltered, isolated, and disabled. So that personality made sense for her life experience. (At the time that I read the first book, I also didn't know yet that the author only writes that kind of heroine, so I wasn't as annoyed and Over It). That personality made the book 2 heroine very boring. And in this book, it makes Sienna both boring and unbelievable.

She’s supposedly one of the best hackers in the world, who hangs out with badass lady gangsters – but she spends the majority of this book acting like a childish moron and just laying around the house. I don’t need to see a ton of mafia action in a mafia romance. But if a story tells me that the heroine is this amazing hacker who has done a bunch of badass stuff, we need to see her doing some of it! She’s also just such an immature dumbass, that I didn’t buy that she’s incredibly skilled.

Dimitri spent a lot of this book apart from her, so the romance part was meh. He was more of an asshole to her than the other heroes in this series. I actually did like that, for some variety and some angst (the second book was also boring because the hero was way too sweet from the start, and insta-love). So at least this book had some angst and tension. But, the angst fizzled out when he just spent most of the story avoiding her, and then she accepted him too easily, after his earlier treatment.

It was nice to see the characters from the first book. The basic set up of the story wasn’t bad. But Sienna was a wet blanket, as a heroine, and they spent too long apart.

I'm not sitting on a high horse about authors who keep writing heroines with the same personality - I'm a fan of Suzanne Wright's books! But I like her unbothered heroines who know who they are and what they want. I can't get onboard with Emilia Rossi's sugar-sweet, childish heroines.

I don’t want to completely abandon this series, because I want Leona’s book – but I can’t imagine how this author will write an assassin heroine who is active in the mob and doesn't just sit around a house all day. I bet she’ll somehow still find a way to make Leona act like a childish idiot and spent most of the book doing nothing, hanging around the hero’s house, baking and befriending animals.

Aaaaaahhh 💕

So it hurts my heart to give this book a low review considering the first 2 books of this series were amazing but overall I was just super disappointed in the MMC, just a complete asshole and not in the typical mafia man good way. I was excited to finally read Siennas story but she deserved so much better… disappointed to say the least

Everyone kinda pissed me off at one point or another😭

I don’t really like the pregnancy trope i do remember him saying something along the lines of “she had been in my thoughts so much it was only a matter of time before i had *his hacker* track her down” So I liked that there was still a little hope that it wasn’t just bc of the pregnancy that they ended up together
