A Curse for Two Souls #2

Princesses of the Damned

Rate this book
The dark twins have escaped the king’s grasp.

But freedom demands sacrifice.

Naithea and Darcia carry the burden of a prophecy carved in stone. To break the curse spreading through Laivalon, they must claim their thrones and rise an army strong enough to bring the kingdoms to their knees.

With their past unraveling and war looming on the horizon, the lost princesses forge new alliances, in a place where rebellion brews and trust is a dangerous game. Naithea will stop at nothing to rescue her friend, captured by her enemies—even if it means becoming the monster she has always feared. Meanwhile, Darcia’s magic is changing, unraveling something deep within her she can’t control or understand—something that consumes her.

As kingdoms fracture, the curse spreads faster, and the cost of power cuts deeper than ever before.

The past haunts them. The Crown fears them.

And Darkness and Light will rise.

I’m L.C. Emerson, a Latina author who writes romantic fantasies where love feels like magic and punishment all at once. My stories are full of enemies tangled by fate, forbidden lovers, and the kind of tension that hurts in the best way.

When I’m not writing, you’ll find me sipping blueberry drinks or wandering the city with a new story whispering in my head.

ARC Review — Princesses of the Damned
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⚠️ Warning: spoilers for Heirs of the Cursed below!

Oh. My. Goddess. How do I even begin again? Princesses of the Damned was every bit as much of a masterpiece as book one. I didn’t think it was possible to love these characters and this world any harder, and yet… here we are.

We pick up right where we left off: with our girls and Alasdair on the run after the explosive events that ended book one. The pacing throws us right back into the tension, grief, and chaos of their shattered world. Darcia and Naithea — still trying to breathe after everything they’ve lost — are forced to decide where to go next, who to trust, and what kind of future they even want. And that’s when the rebellion enters the stage.

I loved this new addition. The rebellion welcomes them in with open arms, but it’s not that simple. Nothing in this world ever is. Not everyone is who they appear to be, and that moral grayness made the story even more gripping. Watching Darcia and Naithea (now stepping into their true names, Meissa and Amira) slowly learn to trust again, to open themselves to their new allies, and to carry the weight of their titles and people.
It was beautiful, emotional, and raw. This was a book about rebirth, about shedding the versions of themselves that were merely a shield to protect themselves, and embracing the strength that was always within them.

The writing is Chef’s kiss. There’s rebellion, strategy, prison infiltrations, politics, and the constant sense that danger is one step behind them. The tension between hope and despair is so perfectly balanced that I couldn’t stop turning the pages.

Now let’s talk about the characters — because my heart is full.

Meissa and Amira: Our girls. Our queens. What they’ve endured, how they’ve grown, and the way they constantly lift each other up even when the world seems determined to tear them apart — they’re everything. I adore that their bond remains the heart of this story. They are each other’s strength and their journeys of finally stepping into their thrones had me in tears more than once.

Killian: That reveal from book one still has me in shock, and seeing how it all unfolds here was just incredible. His self-awareness, his internal conflict, and the way he’s willing to face his own monstrous past to be better for Amira — it’s powerful. He doesn’t get a free pass for the things he’s done, but he owns it, and that makes his redemption and new ambition to turn against his duty so satisfying to witness.

Alasdair: Oh, Alasdair. I love this man with my entire soul. Finally uncovering his mystery was everything I hoped for. His growth, his quiet devotion to Meissa, his constant struggle between his own ambition and his loyalty to her — it’s all so compelling. The slow burn between them isn’t just simmering anymore… it’s blazing. Their bond feels so natural, so inevitable, and yet they’re still cautious, still holding onto their individual goals first. That kind of romantic tension? Perfection.

Side characters: The new additions from the rebellion gave me everything I wanted and more. It really felt like we were building a found family: full of complex, layered characters with their own motives and histories. I loved discovering their backstories and realizing why each of them fights for the cause. Not to mention, the dynamics between everyone were so fun to read.

Special shoutout to Sirio and Harg — my absolute favorites this round! Sirio with his silly, brotherly energy hiding a deeper sadness that broke my heart, and Harg with his soft soul in a warrior’s body (and that baking scene — I melted). His friendship with Killian was such an unexpected comfort. Every single character here matters, every bond adds something special, and that’s what makes this world feel so alive.

And then that ending. Just as hair-ripping, scream-worthy, and emotional as the first book’s finale. The stakes are high and now I’m left both thrilled and terrified for book three.
Where will the story go from here? What will these characters sacrifice next? I’m equal parts scared and so ready.

Once again, Denna and L.C. have delivered something extraordinary. You can feel their love for this world and its characters in every single line. I don’t know how they do it, but they’ve created something so powerful, so emotional, that it genuinely sticks with you.

To Denna and L.C. — you’ve done it again. Another masterpiece. Another story that’s taken my heart hostage. I’m beyond grateful to be on this journey, and I’m so ready for the grand finale. ♥️👑

thank you SOOOO much to authors L.C. Emerson and Denna Selen for an ARC copy of Princesses of the Damned!!!! I was so excited to read the second installation of this series. I was lucky enough to ARC read Heirs of the Cursed and am so lucky to be able to read book 2 early as well.

I loved the continuation of this the series - I feel like this world and magic system is so immersive! I LOVE the character dynamics because their relationships across characters are so unique. There were lots of developments in book 1 between certain characters that paved the way for their actions and reactions in book 2. This was one of if not my favorite parts of this book because I knew the characters but getting to see them grow was so rewarding. The romantic relationships that you see are very much slow burn which i love. And the platonic relationships are so loyal which i also love because it is soooo important to include this type of friendship in fantasy stories imo!!!!

I did feel a tiny bit confused in some areas because there are so many names, cities, and parts of the magic system that I felt I needed a little clarification on - but that may have been user error because it has been about 9 months since I read book 1. I think if I would have reread to refresh my memory it would have made a lot more sense - these authors definitely show rather than tell (even though both are important) and they expect their readers to know what’s going on!!!!! So if it’s been awhile I’d def recommend a reread which i probably will be embarking on sometime before book 3 comes out!

Overall I loved this second installation of the series and I can’t wait for the next book. I mostly LOVE the direction our main characters went in at the end of this book (keyword mostly- I just want them to be happy 😭) there were lots of twists that I wasn’t expecting but some that I was 🫦🫦I can’t wait to see how the series ends. I really love these characters and the world the authors have built. 🩷

THANK YOU, QUEENS L.C. EMERSON AND DENNA SELEN, FOR THE ARC (I love you both)

*Spoilers from Heirs of Cursed below*

Princesses of the Damned leaves off with Darcia and Naithea on the run, coming to terms with their lineage and all that's at stake. We're immediately thrown into the aftermath of the chaos that ended book one, only with more POV's that tie the story together (which I absolutely ate up).

The way the authors wrote grief, sorrow, yearning, and healing, made these characters so raw. They found themselves in a reality that caused distrust, curiosity, strength, and bravery. Seeing their stories of redemption and growth made me love each of them even more ‪‪❤︎‬

The world building is so immersive, and the magic system is beautifully unique. I did find myself a little confused at times with all the names and terms but was still going with the flow.

I love the writing style - despite it being two authors you cannot tell a difference between which author wrote which because it's been blended so beautifully. The scenes, depending on which chapter, were written with such anguish, hope, intensity, that it made a story of hope and perseverance all the more alluring.

I cannot wait for the third installment of this series ‪‪❤︎‬

I read book one back in March and it was 4 stars for me. And I remembered enough that I thought I could get along. But I struggled so much and even took notes to reference things. Each sister had their main identity and then had their Princess identity they just discovered, so they were both being referred to by different names depending on who was speaking. Then one of the MMCs had two names too. The book wasn’t bad, but I couldn’t remember enough to keep limping along.

I genuinely enjoyed the first book, so I may have to revisit this one later on after rereading book 1.

Thank you to the authors for the eARC. My thoughts are entirely my own.

Another masterpiece to match book 1!!! I read this as a beta reader, which means I read a version that is still in the works, so the fact that I am telling you this is a masterpiece should already be a clear sign that when it is polished, finished and ready to release it will be ✨️ perfect ✨️!

There's evolution in the characters we saw in HOTC, and there are more revelations and more lore!!! And more POVs 👀

Get ready for POTD because it will wreck you!!! 🗡💙

THIS BOOK!!!! watching my girls; two ordinary girls rise into the fierce, powerful and absolutely BADASS queens they were meant to be was such a thrill. The sisterly bond, the growth, and their unapologetic personalities made it impossible to put down. I loved how their power didn’t just come from magic, but from their hearts, their pain, and the loyalty they shared. And let’s not even get started on the male interests. The world-building was lush, the emotions hit hard, and even when it got dark, it stayed beautifully human. I’d happily read more about these two ANY day.
