A wonderful book for kids about taking actions to reduce the planet of plastic and trash. I loved the everyday practical examples that all ages can do. I loved the humor at the start of the book. Definitely caught young readers’ attention. The illustrations were fun to look at with many smiling characters to show that being green is a good thing and it made everyone happy. I loved the examples of different locations and situations where kids can be green such as eating ice cream using a cone instead of cup and plastic spoon. This book showed that even kids walking in crutches and riding the wheelchair were still able to take part in being green. So truly, taking actions to take care of the planet is something everyone can do.

This book starts young readers with a question, what does it mean to be green? And there are a few answers that will get them to laugh out loud. No, not feeling nauseous in the car or dressing up in green costumes for Halloween. Then the story goes on to give readers many examples of how they can be green: turn off the lights when they leave the room, eat foods from local farmers, walk or ride a bike instead of drive a car, eat ice cream using an ice cream cone instead of cup and plastic spoon, etc. At the end of the book, there are words of encouragement for everyone to start being green, even kids. There’s another page on what readers can do to start being green and the simple example was by following the 5 Rs of zero-waste living: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot.

What Does it Mean to Be Green? was well written and illustrated. There were many activities kids did in this story that readers can feel motivated to do. Shopping at farmer’s market is always fun and I took my kids there every summer. I loved the encouragement for kids to take part in growing their own vegetables garden at home. My toddler loved to eat grape tomatoes right as she picked from the bushes. There were illustrations of multiple cows, butterflies, chicken, chicks, pumpkins which gave counting opportunities for young readers. My toddler especially loved pointing out the different color shoes the characters wore. Her new vocabularies from this book were helmet, pond, shovel, wheelchair, and many more! I highly recommend everyone to read this book!

‘What Does It Mean to be Green?’ by Rana DiOrio is a book where we get to see how the author has given a valuable message through this book. In this story we get to see a small girl curious and enquires ‘What Does It Mean to Be Green?’ To this question her older sister explains what it actually means to ‘Be Green’ and how we should try our best to help save our earth by making choices which will be good for our environment. What are the ways in which we can save our environment? What choices will be help us and our environment? To know read ‘What Does It Mean to Be Green?’

My Thoughts:

The plot is written in a manner which the readers will get a message on what and how we should be using our resources which are scarce in nature. It is very important to bring awareness among children about the importance of sustainability since a small age so that they follow it throughout their life.

Author has nicely depicted the curiosity of children through this story. We get to see how children want to know and understand things by asking questions and as adults it is our responsibility to answer them to the best possibility which the older sister does.

Illustrations are beautiful and will catch the reader’s attention. There are concepts such as recycling, wave energy, wind energy, etc. which would be very difficult to visualize for small children but through these beautiful illustrations this too has been made easy for the young readers. I definitely loved the uniqueness for these beautiful illustrations.

Overall, I really loved reading this book and would surely recommend this to all especially parents who can imbibe this most important topic on their children from a small age.

Keeping our Earth clean is a top priority. This adorable book teaches children ways they can help live a green life that will save our environment. Things like not washing clothes as often, turning off the faucet while you brush your teeth, and using reusable cutlery and bowls can help make our world cleaner. The book has diverse characters and also includes children with disabilities. The book also includes ways children can help this effort come to fruition with a few rules they can follow. Let's work together to keep our Earth clean.

I love Little Pickle books. They try to teach valuable lessons to young readers and from what I can tell, their business practices tend to follow the suggestions they give in their books!

In this book, readers (and those reading to them) are given several very easy (though now widely known) tips for "being green". A book like this might seem obvious to people who have been trying to live sustainably for years, but it's a good entrance point for youngsters who might not have grown up with Captain Planet and Barney's "I Never Let the Water Run" song. (Yes, the lyrics are stuck in my head now too. I'm sorry!)

I will definitely be buying a copy of this book for my child. Even if the tips are things my son comes to practice, future readings will open the door to new ideas for conservation efforts and (hopefully) encourage him to live a more environmentally conservative and sustainable life.

This book begins by guessing all the things children may think of when they hear what being green is. Like is it feeling sick to your stomach or looking like a pickle. Next, the author describes what being green is and all about and the different things you can do to be green. Like, walking places instead of driving and picking up trash of the ground. Lastly, the author talks about all the good things that can happen just by changing small things you do each day. What It Means To Be Green is full of a lot of great information to help children learn more about helping the environment. There are many things that children can relate to in this book that can make it more engaging for them and help them understand better. For example, when the author talked about using both sides of the paper to color, is something most children can relate to because they color a lot. I gave this book five stars because it has a lot of great content. This book is a great educational tool for children because it teaches them many tips on how to take care of the environment. Additionally, I thought the illustrations were very unique and went along with the story perfectly.

If your kid is under the age of 8 and over 4 years. This book is recommended as a joyful, creative, and convenient book highlighting the significance of earth day and recycling books.

For children in a book, the most attractive part is the cover and illustrations which bring the engagement of the child towards the book. And Rana did very decent work on it.

The story deals with "green" ideas for life and climate. This book combines basic Rana DiOrio and text drawing with pleasant contours by Chris Blair. It begins with basic inquiries that children love to answer like various books in a wonderful and winning series. Rana takes the trendy expression "green" for ecologically cognizant and discloses it obviously to youngsters, giving them loads of thoughts for being "green" themselves.

The striking thing about this book is that it is made in a harmless to the ecosystem design, utilizing paper made with reused fiber and post-buyer squander, alongside some inks.

I absolute loved the book as it was and adaptable story for younger children. This book contradictions a common narrative which stereotypes environmentally friendliness to be bizarre. This book gives us all small, practical things we can do to help the environment, or as this book calls it, be green. This book was utterly relational to the practices our our daily lives. This illustrations accurately complimented the suggestive text. The author does an amazing job of giving practical green suggestions in a narrative format which the reader can easily read, digest and absorb into practice. I will certainly bring this book to my classroom!

This book uses fun illustrations and also humor to talk about the importance of sustainability. In the book, A sister talks to someone younger than her about the importance of the environment and hell it should be a priority to take care of the earth. The book uses a lot of facts and statistics and the book also talks about different ways to help protect the resources we have on earth. "What Does it Mean to Be Green?: is a cute introduction to sustainability. It promotes the five Rs of zero-waste living - refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and rot. The book doesn’t go into a lot of detail, but the ideas (like picking up trash, walking instead of riding in a car, using both sides of the paper, etc.) will help young readers learn from the illustrations. I would use this book as a read-aloud on Earth Day because I think its important for our young learners to learn how to take care of the earth.

This lively, practical book is filled with useful tips.

Really, it's more about DOING things to help the environment, rather than BEING a certain way -- whether green or any other attribute.

What kind of tips?

1. Turn off the water while you brush your teeth.
2. Turn the lights on only when you need them.
3. Pick up trash on the street, even if you're not the one who dropped that trash.

***Hey, I do all of these things. How about you, Goodreaders?***

Summing up, I applaud the practicality and also the fabulously playful illustratoins by Chris Blair.

FIVE STARS, yes.

What Does It Mean to Be Green?
author: Rana DiOrio
illustrator: Addy Rivera Sondo
Sourcebooks Kids, Little Pickle Press
What a wonderful book this is to teach children about the importance of taking care of our planet! What Does It Mean to Be Green? is a simple introductory book on this topic, with beautiful, engaging illustrations by Addy Rivera Sondo. The children featured in the book are diverse and happily actively engaged in the process of being green.
DiOrio describes first what being green is not, then leads into an overview of what it does mean. Areas covered include power and water conservation, fresh and local food, transportation, reusing, trash pick-up, recycling and composting, A nice variety of locations that children will relate to are featured. The narrative includes settings such as park, playground, farmer's market, beach, home, garden, and farm. A summary of the "5 R's" adds more detail for zero-waste living. These are presented in a way that allows for discussion between children and adults.
This book is appealing to both the target audience of children, as well as adults. I highly recommend it for school and public libraries, homes, and gifts. It would really be a nice addition to the little free libraries that are popular now.
Thank you to Net Galley and Sourcebook Kids - Little Pickle Press for the advance reader's copy of this book and the opportunity to provide my unbiased review.

In Diorio's book, a girl is trying to explain to her younger sister what it exactly means to be green. The little sister thinks that being green is being good with plants, feeling sick in the car, and looking like a pickle but the older sister explains that it is something completely different. The older sister explains that being green means that you want to help out the earth by making good choices for the environment. If you use both sides of the paper when you are drawing then you are being green. When you hand down old clothes that do not fit you anymore you are conserving the resources. The younger sister finally understands and asks if you turn off the lights when you are not using them are you being green. The older sister tells her yes and that she finally understands what it means to be green. They have to remind the adults to be green because they sometimes forget.

Growing up you are taught to do things like turn off the water when brushing your teeth or turn off the lights when leaving the room but we do not always understand why. This book demonstrates the many things you can do to help the environment and be more “green.” This book is informational and engaging because of the engaging pictures.

What Does It Mean to Be Green is written by Rana DiOrio and illustrations are done by Addy Rivera Sonda.

It is a captivating pictorial cum graphical book for children and kids. The focus of the book is to impart knowledge about Mother Nature to the kids. Since kids are of malleable hearts, this is the right time to inculcate right set of habits in them.

One of the best hobbies and biggest responsibility is to make them aware of our surrounding. The foremost thing is to take care of the nature. As the title is apprehensive, one can gauge that the book tries to teach the meaning of being green in life. It does not mean to look alien or green like frog. It rather shows how we can help trees and our environment so that there is least change in the global climate.

The book is beautifully illustrated; the pictures are speaking like anything. It teaches many aspects like do not waste water in the garden or tap, use the resources judiciously like food, rain water, electricity, cut the usage of vehicles and much more.

The book is so spellbinding that you may browse it as many as time possible. All the characters are colourful and look happy and contributing to the nature. Kids will just love this book. It is full of moral teachings plus creativity. Go for it.

𝑻𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆: What Does It Mean To Be Green?
𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓: Rana DiOrio

𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘:
Recently I got my hands on a beautiful Children's Book 'What Does It Mean To Be Green?'. This book is a perfect book to initiate discussion with kids about saving the environment. Whatever activities we do in our daily life have a huge impact on our ecosystem. We shouldn't waste the natural resources. For instance, if we are brushing our teeth, we should turn off the tap. Instead of taking a ride to the park, we should walk or roll.

This book has so many improvement ideas that kids should learn at an early age. If kids develop a habit of saving energy and environment at an early age, this habit will stay with them forever. But many parents don't teach about saving the environment to their kids. This book is a wake-up call for parents and kids to use natural resources effectively.

Author has done great work in this book. I am highly impressed with the beautiful illustrations. Rana's creativity in writing this book is what I appreciate the most. Cover photo looks stunning and the title couldn't have been better than this.

What are your thoughts on the title and cover of this book?

🍷What Does It Mean To Be Green? 🍷
Amazing book that teaches the true meaning of being green to kids. Kids may initially think that being green means being good with plants or feeling sick. But it actually means to use the resources of nature only when we need them and that too wisely. If we are leaving the room, we should turn off the lights and fans. Being green means enjoying ice cream in a cone instead of enjoying it in a plastic cup.

I love reading Children's books with beautiful illustrations and this is one of the best books I have read this year. Even though it is a Children's book, it could be read by readers of all ages as many adults also waste energy and Earth's resources.

This book tells us to use the resources of Mother Earth wisely. This is a great book to educate kids about being green. Author has written it nicely. Pretty illustrations will catch a kid's attention right away. Parents could buy this book to give it to their little ones.

The title of the book is so eye catchy which made me pick it up. The cover of the book is aptly designed and good enough to catch the attention of kids. The author has done a great job to teach or guide the kids through this pictorial book about the importance of Mother Nature or greenery. She has very well expressed 'we depend on Mother Nature and she depends on us'.

What a great way to introduce children to important concepts and vocabulary connected to the important topic of recycling and "being green." The simple illustrations are whimsical and the style invites children to feel confident in creating their own posters or drawings around the topic. Most importantly, this book empowers young citizens by showing them simple things they can do (and remind their grown-ups to do), that can help to support a healthy planet. Complete with fun facts that promote critical thinking related to math and science, teacher's and parents can promote children to think for themselves new ways that they can contribute to saving the planet.

The tone of this book is uplifting. In an ever increasing time of world tension and division, it is nice to promote in children an awareness that individuals can feel empowered by working together and building community connection through the common goal of taking care of the planet.

🌱 Book: What Does It Mean To Be Green?
🌱 Author: Rana DiOrio

My Review:
I love reading Children's books to my little nephew at bedtime because they teach valuable life lessons in just a few minutes. Yesterday we read Rana DiOrio's "What Does It Mean To Be Green?". Earth is our home and we should keep our home clean and use its resources carefully. Today's generation should learn about the importance of protecting our planet for future generations.

This book should reach more and more kids so they all can contribute in making a difference. Good habits every day by each of us could help a lot in saving this planet.

Pace of the story is fine. It is a short and quick read. Language used in the book is lucid so kids would be able to understand it easily. Cover photo is eye-catching. I also got to know 2-3 more tips from this book to save the planet Earth. A wonderful book for group reading at home or school.

Thank you to Source Books for an early reads ebook to review. I thought this book was fantastic from beginning to end, with lovely illustrations and an engaging text that puts green living into context for young readers.

What struck me most about this book was that it was made up of actual actionable things we can do to help our planet. Especially for kids, it's not helpful to just say abstract things like "save water," - but instead, there are accomplishable tasks like "turn off the water while brushing your teeth." There were great examples of things kids can do right now - like picking up trash or packing lunches in reusable boxes - but also some bigger concept things, like understanding wind power or the need to rethink our energy sources in the long term. It's a great introduction to greener living, and I appreciate that the author acknowledges just how different climate science is for the modern era.

This book combines Rana DiOrio's simple and engaging text with Chris Blair's fun illustrations and comes out a winner with my children. Like the other books in this excellent and award winning series, it begins with simple questions that kids love to answer. What does it mean to be green? "Does it mean feeling sick in the car?" and "Does it mean looking like a frog, or a pickle, or an alien?" The answer, of course is no. DiOrio takes the buzzword "green" for environmentally conscious and explains it clearly to children, giving them lots of ideas for being "green" themselves. Another great thing about the book is that it, like all Little Pickle Press publications, is made in an environmentally friendly fashion, using paper made with recycled fiber and post consumer waste, along with soy inks. I love a company that so clearly practices what it teaches.

Going Green is a commonly used term but what does it really mean? What does it mean to be green? Does it mean being good with plants? Or Does it mean looking like a frog, or a pickle, or an alien? Read out the story to know what Green actually means and how important it is to be Green and what can we do to be green?

Great points and easy to follow explanations. I really loved reading the book as it is about green ideas for your life and environment. The book is a good read and contains best examples and suggestions to educate kids. Great addition to any school library.

There are Five Rs at the end of the story that will help us to promote sustainability and to be green.

Lovely book with colourful pictures. This book gives a strong message to the readers. I will surely recommend this book to my friends. I am definitely interested in reading more books by the author.

What does it mean to be green? is an educational picturebook aimed at children of primary to intermediate ages 4-10. What does it mean to be green? is a picture book that shows kids how to be environmentally friendly in their daily lives. The book is colorful with illustrations of a “stick figure” family that covers a subject that may spark interest in children giving them something to share with parents and friends. The book doesn’t have characters so, it sort of allows you to use imagination and put yourself in the story. Overall I rate this book with 5 stars because it effective in showing specific ways to be more environmentally friendly and the message it communicates is important for kids to learn about. I might use this book to introduce a recycling classroom activity.
