This was perhaps the most painful and, at the same time, hopeful book I have ever written, for it is a story of a journey from grief to hope. It is not merely a random collection of poems dealing with grief, but a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. Please read it as more than a record of my misery, leading nowhere, for I believe that all grief is meant to be, essentially, a hero’s journey toward wholeness and hope. Grief itself is never the destination, and although we may be tempted to stop along the way before ever completing the journey, I encourage you to join me to the end. Further, I pray that this book will be helpful to you whether you are grieving, or merely watching someone you love struggling through this experience. However, please know that this book is meant for more than therapy. Although it may be therapeutic, it is essentially a book of hope and promise, reminding all of us that there is something more beyond our grief, and that grief, itself, is merely the journey on the way to a place of hope and healing.
