All people deal with intrusive thoughts at times. All of us have some practices in our lives we are not proud of. Many would call these struggles sins. Why are there thoughts and deeds we hate, yet that recur so often in our lives?
The Bible teaches there is a real, supernatural source behind these thoughts and deeds. Satan is real but so is God. God’s word has all the truth and power we need to set us free from the influence of sin and Satan.
Satan will use the events of our personal lives to convince us that lies are true. He is very convincing. He will lie to us about God, about ourselves, about the gospel, and about all of life. He roots his lies in enough truth to make them very believable. Discerning them is not always easy. Satan is very crafty, shrewd, and subtle.
God’s word and Spirit are able to give us all that we need to take each sinful thought captive. Further, God supplies the truth that must replace Satan’s lies. God’s truth is the foundation for a holy life. God’s truth is the pure substance we need to replace the roots of our sinful practices.
In this intensely practical, theologically rich book, Olan Stubbs gets down to the 'why' of our wandering from God. This is not a mere slap on the hand for reaching into sin's cookie jar but an invitation to enjoy the feast of God's abundant goodness. As a pastor I look forward to sharing this with both new believers and struggling, seasoned saints.
Olan’s writing was immersed in God’s word on nearly every page! I loved how he tied the story of Jacob and Esau in Genesis 25 to Jesus being the true and better older brother who longs to share his blessings with all his people! Because of Christ we now get the Father’s delight and eternal love.
