Hide and Seek Volume 2 continues the story of restless corner store owner Tanihara and uptight pediatrician Dr. Saji. Both men are confused as to the nature of their relationship and whether it can (or should) be taken further.
In this volume, Tanihara vacillates between wanting more of Dr. Saji and wanting to end their unlooked-for relationship. He tries to discomfit the Dr. by taking him to dance clubs and bars but is surprised by the Dr.s comfort in those areas. Tanihara thought the good Dr. too straight laced to ever have achieved a familiarity with nightlife and he finds the tables turning on him as he realizes there is a lot more to his partner than just one night stands. Meanwhile, Saji pursues Tanihara gently – never pushing or taking more than the younger man is willing to give. But he wants more and must struggle with letting his feelings show and not smothering yet another relationship.
I really liked the way this story has slowly built the relationship between the two men. What started as experimentation and playful fun on one side has now bloomed into a very real and scary potential. But at the same time, although it looked like Tanihara held all the cards in the relationship it now appears in Volume 2 that Saji is really the one guiding their progression.
There’s no overwrought melodrama, no forced intercourse, and the author allows the story to grow with a bit of angst and a lot of heart. A gentle read all the more interesting for a denouement allowed to build at its own pace.

Not For the Faint of Heart - Hide and Seek Volume 2
It's time again for another thrilling installment of reviewing some sexy-books and drinking, this time brought to you by the majesty of a Black Russian. For when you want the taste of waking up in the morning with the strength of knocking you out, make yours Black Russians. In any event, for my triumphant return I'm choosing the second volume of the adorably romantic Hide and Seek series, which continues to be cute and really hot while barely managing to have something resembling a story.
I suppose that's a little unfair though. The main characters definitely go through some relationship struggles and angst, with the store-owner guy not sure if he wants to pursue his relationship with the doctor but the doctor needing to put a hold on their fling so that he can look after an ex. It's full of drama as the shop owner realized that he cares more than he was willing to admit about their relationship, even though he was claiming to keep things light with no strings attached.
Once again, the artwork is great and cute and really, really explicit. For me, that's a good thing, because things certainly do get steamy. There's a lot to see and some interesting and fun and sweet moments of pure smut that are lovingly rendered. Expressions are spot on and the characters' personalities are well defined by the art. Also, manbits. Just saying.
Anywho, my main problem with this volume is that I have no idea if it's the last volume or not. I would guess not, but there has never been too much of a plot and what of it there was seemed rather wrapped up at the end of this volume. It's not a bad thing that the volume has been about a much more personal story, though I do prefer something more than that most of the time. This was still cute and fun and provided some excellent diversions from doing chores. Still, the ending was something of a question mark.
In the end, the volume delivers the smut and the cute in spades, and that's the main reason that I pick up yaoi so it succeeds at what it sets out to do. There are a number of interesting character moments, and everything is handled well and with complexity. The plot might have been a bit lacking, but otherwise it was all good, and with another sip of my drink I will bestow this book an 8/10.

Volume 02 of Hide and Seek really didn't take the turn I was expecting it to. It was painfully obvious, but after events in Hide and Seek, Vol. 1, I thought this volume's events would take place in Hide and Seek, Vol. 3. However, it was pleasant to read, good to see and enjoyable.
In my review of volume 1, I did mention some lines that irked me as ever so slightly homophobic and I'm really glad to be able to write in this review that there were none whatsoever in this volume. However, volume 2 was full of drama, some of which didn't seem fully necessary. Within the plot line, I can't tell where volume 3 will go, just like I couldn't figure out where volume 2 would go, and again, I want to read on and finish the series and find out what's going to happen.
The artwork is still quite poor, and not fully pleasing to the eye, but I believe that's the artist's style, more than them doing bad drawings. As I've said before, the artwork is strange, but still pleasant in a strange way.
The characters seem much less two dimensional in this volume, and we get to learn a little more about them; they're definitely a lot more three dimensional now rather than bland characters on a page.

As far as my tastes in this genre go, I really enjoy manga with older couples...so this is a perfect series for me. The relationship and the way it develops is really well done and I like these two men as a couple. The artist is one of my favorite yaoi manga artists, as well and her artwork is very beautiful!

Again, so, so good.
The art actually seems like it improved this time - there's less of the kind of wonky chins/cheekbones, so all the panels are just a pleasure to look at. And the story. If the third volume goes well, this will rocket up to my favorites, because it is absolutely fantastic to just watch two mature adults sorting out relationship dynamics.
I have a HUGE soft spot at this point for Saji, who ended up being way too kind for his own good - it turns out he's actually a big pushover, whose friends and exes (and current boyfriends) can easily take advantage of. That's what's happening with his college ex, Yukihisha, whose entrance into the story is fantastic because it's not really the normal "oh no love triangle jealousy" deal.
His presence does make Tanihara jealous, and that scene outside his home is so amazing I read it three or four times in a row, but it's really just one of the many things that's been making him realize he might not be as casual about the doctor as he thinks. I like that he's not really going through some big soul-searching realization as he wrestles with those feelings - it's not weird or anything that he's falling in love with the guy, but it is complicated, and it's not the way he operates for multiple reasons, sexuality being possibly less important than the sheer commitment issue. (I'm interested in seeing more about his ex-wife, because it sounds like he did love her and settle down for her, so why did that end?)
I love that Tanihara is this responsible, mature, reasonable person who stands up for Saji and tells him to stop letting people like Yuki take advantage of him. And then, when the doctor uses that as an opportunity to not-so-subtly tell Tanihara about his true feelings, it makes Tanihara realize that what he's doing is possibly worse. He's not imposing on Saji's hospitality or sponging money off him, but he is stringing a really, really good guy along without any intention of committing to him in the longterm. So, wanting more than anything to not hurt the guy he's just realized he loves any further, he has the "we're not dating but let's break up" talk.
And ow, ow, is that devastating, because Saji is obviously hurt and takes it as yet another failure on his part. He has a habit of falling too hard, taking things too seriously, and driving guys away - even in this case, when he'd tried so hard to make sure he was keeping it as casual as Tanihara wanted.
The ending was a little too quick and sort of obvious - Tanihara gets sick again, because how can you have a story about a doctor without the love confession coming over a sickbed - but I still love how they communicate and how complex the characters are. Saji is deeply kind and so loyal and loving, but he has a selfish streak as well, because that's true of everyone.
Loved the bits with Tanihara's daughter again, and how much she continues to like and trust the doctor. Can't wait to read volume 3 and see how it concludes. I hope it's happy.

Love a good sick arc. When one of them gets sick and the other has to take care of them?? AMAZING.
This one was just as enjoyable as the first. The author used a lot more metaphors and analogies in this one. They were a little corny but I really liked them. I liked the way this volume was written and I really like the story and the relationship between these two. I do wish the daughter could be a little more of a character and less of a prop though. She’s mostly used to drive the story forward than anything else. The story isn’t really leaning into the found family portion of the story it has the potential to be, but now that their relationship is moving forward maybe that’ll happen in the next volume.

I loved Volume 1 so much because Takafumi and Shuji are both mature adults who fully consent to embark on a sexual fling. It was explicit, but also fun and tender. In Volume 2, both men start to want more than a fling, but are afraid to express their feelings.
V2 has a lot of angst, like a lot of yaoi, but I felt it was better earned here. Both men have had failed relationships in the past and Shuji is divorced raising his little girl. It's a lot of baggage that makes both feel insecure and feeds miscommunication. This is romance though, so by the end they decide to give a relationship a shot. There's more than one steamy sex scene to supplement the drama. Bring on V3!!

I feel like this story is better than the first volume. Our characters are established and this is all the confusion going on. People are scared to reach out and lay it all on the line. We see more into the doctors life. He's a very giving person. People take advantage of his giving.
The story makes a lot of strides in plot motion. They really dig in and deal with this relationship. It's some good writing I think. I love it, because I can tell who's speaking and I can follow the plot. It doesn't skip around.
I hope the library still has volume 3. I want to finish it. I hope it has a good ending. This is a good one. I'll see if I can find more by this author.

This was a nice continuation of the first installment. I like the ideas of how men express their feelings that are explored this time. The story is really about the strain of not being honest with what each person in the relationship wants from said relationship. With the usual BL "misunderstanding" theme/motif, Vol. 2 plays with old boyfriends (one of Doc's) and plays on "fever" as in a medical condition and as an emotional state (i.e. being in love). I am excited to get my hands on the next volume, though sad, too, that it is the last one.

Tanihara was so fun to watch because he was obviously bothered by Takafumi's lack of attention but doesn't want to admit it even to himself. He acts like he's fine with things being casual but he gets jealous easily and makes the first move to seduce sensei.
I can understand his actions cos he doesn't want to 'lose' but at the same time I just wanted to shake him till he confesses his true feelings 😂
Ugh this manga is so fun! Also, can I just add that Chi is really adorable! She's extremely mature for a kid.

Un BL entre dos adults (cosa que sempre és benvinguda), l'un és propietari d'una botiga de llaminadures d'un poble i l'altre és el nou pediatre amb cara de pocs amics que s'intenta guanyar-se la canalla fent-los regalets de la botiga. Diria que és una sèrie que ha envellit una mica malament pel clixé del "gay for you" i tot l'embolic familiar sobre la paternitat, però té la mescla perfecta entre rerefons i superficialitat. Final un pèl abrupte, però lectura molt entretinguda, amb una dinàmica de parella ben aconseguida.

I love how this relationship gets more and more serious.
The scene are juicy as always - Sakuragi knows what she is doing.
I think it helps, that the protas are both adults and I like that they handle things in a very adult way:
they talk !!!
And the dialogues are really good. Normally I get bored during such talkes, but the writing is great.

I adore this series! Both characters are very well developed for how short the books seem. I read this in about 30 minutes and will no doubt pick it up again and again.

Un tome 2 avec de la jalousie et des non-dits entre les personnages. Shûji est de plus en plus perturbé par ses sentiments et Saji qui essaye de le comprendre.
J’ai aimé ces moments de doutes et l’évolution dans leur relation. Je les ai trouvés à la fois mignons et agaçants, à avoir envie de les secouer parfois.
Un tome vraiment sympa pour l’avancée des sentiments du couple en devenir. Un petit coup de cœur pour Saji dedans qui est tellement attachant. C’est la force tranquille avec de la sensibilité, qui montre toujours le meilleur et une grande maturité.
