The safety of her rural, teenage life evaporated the moment Abby stepped through the mist.
Her reality is rent asunder when she discovers that Dreamers from Earth created the mythical beasts, Gods, and legendary heroes in the magical realm of Terras, forging the basis of the only civilization she has known.
Accompanied by her grandmother and two small dogs, they venture toward the fabled Tree of Tales, guided by an irresistible force, and encountering powerful friends and foes along the way.
Threads of a sinister plot against the Tree slowly unwind, while frightening psychic powers begin to awaken within her mind. Forbidden knowledge and ancient wisdom are forced upon her fragile psyche that threaten to utterly change her view of life and her place in the universe.
It soon becomes apparent; the only way home is to save the Tree from dark forces bent on its destruction.
Growing up in rural Nova Scotia, I was no stranger to boredom as a child. One fateful summer day, when I was around ten years old and my friends were away camping with their families, I professed (read whined) to my mother that I was bored. There was a massive bookcase in our living room, packed full of interesting titles I had glanced over for most of my childhood. My mother escorted me to the bookcase and told me to pick something that I found interesting. This was daunting, and I said I didn't know where to start. Perhaps unknowing of the profound effect it would have in my development, she pulled J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit' off the shelf. My life was never the same from that day forward. Hours passed like minutes as I lost myself in those pages. It took many years for my own passion for writing to develop into a full-on obsession, but I can point to that lazy summer day as the beginning of my love affair with storytelling.
Terras had me giggling, crying, angry, and happy. The author does a beautiful job at world building, I felt like I was right there with the gang. This book kept me guessing and curious the whole time and I ate it up!! I want a book two!
Terras takes you on a magical journey through an alternate universe. I was drawn into the book from the very beginning, with the same questions as the main character. What is Terras, and how, but more importantly, why is she there? Terras is unlike anything I’ve read before and the author does a great job at painting a picture in your mind of the world of Terras and the creatures that inhabit it. To me, this book was also a great reminder of how powerful the mind is and the potential we can unlock. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it to others!
