Rate this book
Her grumpy neighbor wasn’t part of the plan.

After her soul-crushing breakup, Haley Kineman is stepping out of her comfort zone, moving to sunny Tucson, Arizona, and shooting for the stars—literally. When she’s not working as a phlebotomist, Haley’s striving to meet her celebrity crush who’s filming locally.

Haley has even enlisted her grumpy next-door neighbor—affectionately nicknamed Yeti—to help her get onto the movie set. With his long enviable locks, masculine beard, and alpine mountain physique, he’s an obvious choice for an ally.

All Yeti wants is to quietly develop software in his home office, but Haley throws his protective nature into overdrive after being injured in an incident. Then Yeti has no choice but to accompany Haley on her sight-seeing, thrift-shopping, iguana-saving adventures.

But Haley’s bright demeanor keeps messing with his head, making him consider things that aren’t possible. Because with Yeti’s damaging past, no woman would want him.

As their friendship deepens, Haley’s not sure if she should stick to her star-studded plan, or if a real love story is closer to home.

Enjoy the playful banter and slow burn tension of this grumpy sunshine, friends to lovers, next-door neighbor, closed-door/fade-to-black romance by grabbing your copy TODAY!

This is the first audiobook in the Love Tucson series, and can be enjoyed as a standalone.

3 stars. The first half of this book was painfully slow. I was getting ready to quit and thankfully the story picked up around the half way mark. This has some of my absolute favorite trope… miscommunication!!! JK, I hate it just like every other sane person out there. The two MCs couldn’t just have an honest conversation to save their lives. They both made assumptions, and both made me want to smack their heads together in an attempt to stimulate normal brain activity.

Also, for at least the first half of the story, she calls him “Yeti”. He’s also called Yeti in his own POV, which was just fucking weird. It took way too long to learn his real name.

The story did have its cute moments, especially nearing the end. The hero was very sweet to the heroine. The epilogue was nice. Unfortunately the storyline and behavior of the MCs were irritating at times, so maybe 3 stars is a bit generous.

Safe
Closed door
Hero celibate for years
Heroine recently broke up with her ex (who cheated on her before the start of the story)
No OW drama
Mild OM drama that the hero treats like a major threat, even though it wasn’t
No cheating.

Ok, so this book is a good romance and I love a book with no spice but plenty of warmth, so I loved that about the book! It was pretty well written but there was this weird thing with the descriptions. Like she over described what the characters were feeling in each moment- like feeling the lint under fingernails, kisses zinging through their calves and forearms then chest, and like romance being tachycardic. So it was good! Just a little weird.

Haley and the Yeti by Laura Langa is a warm, slow burn, grumpy sunshine friends to lovers contemporary romance about Haley Kineman, a bright, hopeful phlebotomist recovering from a painful breakup who impulsively moves to sunny Tucson, Arizona, and finds more than she bargained for when her quiet next-door neighbor, nicknamed “Yeti” for his beard, long hair, and mountain-man vibe, begins to chip away at her heart while they navigate friendship, healing, and maybe real love in unexpected ways. This neighbors-to-lovers story blends gentle humor, tender emotional growth, and a closed-door, feel-good dynamic as both characters learn to trust again and open up to possibility right where they are.

From the first pages I was struck by how warmly Haley’s sunshine personality shines against Yeti’s guarded, introspective nature, and how their friendship grows in a way that felt authentic and deeply human. Haley’s journey of self discovery after heartbreak carries so much vulnerability and resilience, and watching Yeti slowly reveal the layers of his past pain made me feel genuinely invested in both of them. Their playful banter, thrift-shopping outings, iguana-rescuing misadventures, and the way they share their inner worlds felt heartfelt and sometimes surprising in its emotional depth. I loved how this story took its time, letting their connection unfold at its own pace and honoring the moments when both had to confront their fears about love and worthiness.

Rating: 3 out of 5

I found myself smiling at Haley’s optimism and moved by Yeti’s gentle evolution, and this romance left me with that warm, content feeling you hope for in a sweet, healing story. There were times when the pacing felt leisurely, but the careful build of trust and genuine affection made every step feel worthwhile, and the characters’ growth stayed with me long after I finished.

“𝒩𝑜𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓈𝒶𝓎 𝒾𝓈 𝒾𝓃𝓈𝒾𝑔𝓃𝒾𝒻𝒾𝒸𝒶𝓃𝓉…𝐼 𝒻𝑒𝑒𝓁 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓎 𝓉𝒾𝓂𝑒 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓈𝓅𝑒𝒶𝓀, 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝓌𝑜𝓇𝒹𝓈 𝑒𝓉𝒸𝒽 𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑜 𝓂𝓎 𝓈𝓀𝒾𝓃.”

I truly enjoyed the romance in this story, but phew, I was not expecting it to be as heavy as it was! Not that it took away from the story, but just the opposite — it added a beautiful depth to the book and really enriched the relationship between Haley and her Yeti! (I don’t want to spoil his name, since part of the fun is finding out.)

Haley and Yeti are virtual strangers that become neighbors when Haley temporarily moves to Arizona. Both MCs are running — Haley from a toxic relationship and Yeti from his own grief which we learn about as the story unfolds. I loved their instant chemistry even though things were a bit awkward at first, but the easy way they became friends warmed my heart. I felt myself craving their interactions. Of course, as their friendship grows, so does their attraction for each other. Haley slowly starts to see the real man hiding behind the Yeti persona!

Over time Haley and Yeti build up trust between each other and this opens up the way for them to share their personal struggles (gah, my heart broke for both of them) and more of themselves with each other. This is definitely a slow burn and I loved watching their relationship grow until they finally gave in! There are some quirky moments throughout the story as well as some interesting side characters! The way Haley and Yeti navigated the conflict at the end was perfection! It was so much fun seeing how these two worked things out especially since Haley’s stay in Arizona was coming to an end! I definitely recommend this emotional, adorable grumpy/sunshine story!

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy. My thoughts are my own.

This was such a sweet, heartwarming and joyous read! Haley and the Yeti is a book about hope, about trying to connect with other people without losing yourself, and it is also a book about learning to trust and love again. Haley and Yeti are both wonderful, multidimensional characters and following their journey - and their great banter! - was such a joy and a privilege. Thank you so much Laura Langa for this gem of a novel! ❤

This was a really charming grumpy/sunshine, dual POV, friends to lovers, closed door, neighbor romance between a nurse and a scarred (literally) app coder. I really loved that this book came out in audio format and thought the narration was excellent. The title and cover were so cute and it gave me lots of Beauty and the beast vibes as Ethan has closed himself off from love after being badly scarred in a fire. Perfect for fans of books like The museum of ordinary people.

I knew I wasn't reading this for enlightenment, but I have no idea why I finished it. Some of the premises were SO cringe (treating a celebrity's DMs like a personal diary on the chance they fall in love with you?). Inconsistencies in the characters' primary personality traits were distracting. There's a wholly unnecessary traumatic event in the climax of the book that gets wrapped up in 5 pages.

It gets two stars because the way the Yeti's identity was unveiled was engaging.

This book was a surprise! I really liked it. The cover suggests a light rom com, but it wasn’t that at all. Hayley, on an 8 week travel job to Arizona, is trying to figure her life out. She’s just finished a two year toxic relationship that has left her more broken than she realized. Next door is Yeti. At least, that’s what Hayley calls her quiet, kind, bearded neighbor. As they get to know each other, they realize the other fills in their own missing pieces. Very deep and relatable. I was impressed.

GOOD READ.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

I was seeking a quick contemporary in the midst of reading a big fantasy and stumbled upon this! I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading Laura Langa’s next book.

This concept was kind of quirky, but it worked. The fact that the Yeti was called Yeti for most of this book made me chuckle. And I think it played well into his back story and the things he was working to over come. This had an insta connection vibe that I actually really liked and I could feel the growing chemistry between Haley and the Yeti.

I was a little confused by one the plot aspects with the famous guy? It seemed kind of random and I don’t know that it helped any of the story that much. I did appreciate that when a silly third act break-up could have happened that it was worked out in a much more natural manner.

It was a good read and I liked the audiobook a lot. Look forward to the next!

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: litttle
- Romance: closed door
- Violence: low
- Trigger/Content Warnings: past verbally abusive/gaslighting relationship, past fire accident and trauma, donating blood

Me aburrió

Por lo que veo, Laura tiene algo con los malos padres y el perdón (que no se merecen). En este libro el papá de Haley prácticamente la corrió de la casa mientras era joven, apesar de todo siguen en contacto y ella quiere tanto la aceptación y amor

I really enjoyed the characters and the humor in this story. I mean who wouldn't like a sweet "yeti" as your neighbor?

The romance was a little over the top for me, as to what I like to read. It was closed door, but the kissing scenes got a little over spicy for my taste.

This book is about hope, about goodness and about finding love in the most unexpected place. Come to think of it, maybe the place is charmed, first inhabited by two best friends, and then by these two torn hearts healing each other. Maybe someone else is finding the other half of their souls right now, eyes shining and lips stretched in a brilliant smile.

I love the way the characters interact, the dialogue is very good and the description of their inner turmoil and insecurities really tugged at my heartstrings and made me smile, like the author intended. It is rare to find someone who really gets you, as rare as having Haley's positivity and Yeti's bitterly acquired selflessness. I also like the symmetry of their lives: he has a close-knit family and lost friends, and she has a best friend but lost family. They come together and find all their family and friends at the end of the road, which is great because let's face it - not all families are happy, and not all siblings are really close...

Thank you, Mrs. Langa, for bringing beauty and light to my days, I hope to always read your books with the same enjoyment.

I really wanted to like this book and am frustrated because I feel like it had potential to be a good rom com. The whole celebrity stalker sub plot was odd and made no difference to the plot. It would have been better to have just done away it. It was also really strange behavior. My next issue was the start of their relationship. They were friends and then she suddenly felt more. The whole book lacked flow and seemed to have several sub plots that were in no way necessary. At one point, some random guy calls her and tells her that her dad got hurt and it turns out he was a lying scum bag that brings nothing to the story. There was no reason for that. Also, I have never seen two people misunderstand the other so often. They jumped to the weirdest conclusion out of no where and took offense to everything. These had to be the most soft and insecure characters I have ever read. It was trying to create drama where it did not exist.

I think this could have been a better story imo for me if they didn’t refer to him as yeti even in his pov. I did like the non-fight they had at the usual climax break up point. quick and over with without much issue. This was a fade to black spicy scenes which I feel missed out on. It was boring too.

This is definitely an underrated book that deserves more attention. I LOVED Yeti! My only gripe is with the subplot featuring the famous actor. There was some manufactured drama about Yeti fearing that Haley would end up dating the actor, but that wasn’t a real possibility and also unnecessary to the plot.

Title: Haley and the Yeti
Author: Laura Langa
Hero/Heroine: & Haley
Tropes: Neighbours, Friends to Lovers, Grumpy/Sunshine, Slow Burn, Comfort Healing,

TW/CW: Descriptions of a toxic relationship, gaslighting, love bombing, detailed description of injuries sustained from a fire,

THE GOOD 😀

You know when you get home from a long day at work and you drop your stuff, change into your pjs and slippers and sit down with a cup of tea? This book was the written equivalent of that. An ultimate comfort read that never failed to keep a smile on my face.

Haley has taken an 8 week secondment in Arizona in a way to gain some space from her home town and the breakdown of her last relationship. When she runs into Ethan (or Yeti as she’s affectionately named him), she’s determined to bring the grumpy introvert out of his shell. She’s also determined to meet movie star Zach Abrams and make him fall in love with her. Sounds a bit out there but trust me, it was an amazing part of the story.

Ethan and Haley were the most adorable couple; Haley with her constant positivity and sunny outlook on life, and Ethan with his perpetual grumpiness that housed a hidden sweet side. It felt like I had heart eyes when I was reading this book, their story was so sweet and so open, there was no miscommunication or angst, they were just perfect. The secret that Ethan was keeping was a big one, however they didn’t let it come between them and I loved this, it all felt so natural. Also, Haley and Remmy’s friendship was a thing of beauty, I loved how close they were and that they didn’t let distance come between them.

All in all, this was a wonderfully sweet and heartwarming romance that highlighted the importance of picking yourself up and dusting yourself off in order to move forward. Ethan and Haley had a chokehold on me and I’m not even mad about it.

THE BAD ☹️

Jason. Thankfully we didn’t have to meet him in the book, but just from the sound of him I knew he was an absolute dick that was better left in the past (and in the bin if I had my way).

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.

Oh my gosh what a way to start off the New Year😍 This book was just SO cute. Honestly one of the best parts of it was that the MMC wasn’t this super confident jacked up dude. He had real emotions and we got to see his perspective consistently- which I don’t see as often as I’d like. If you haven’t added this book to you 2023 TBR … DO IT NOW😍

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this book! It was just sooo cute 😍 in fact there were a few things that I have NEVER read in a romance book that Laura hit right on the head- I didn’t know I needed them until I got them😍 For starters, without giving spoilers, we got to see a males perspective and he wasn’t all macho she should love me because of a, b and c. It was more of she could leave me because of a, b or c (even though he’s been nothing but perfect😍). I really needed to read that- boys feel insecure and sad too and this book just showed that perfectly. I also LOVED that there wasn’t an ACT 3 break-up (as I call it) I usually stray from different location love stories (I learned the hard way with the holiday trap) that there’s another breakup when it takes the whole damn book to even get together. But there was none of that with Haley and the Yeti😍 and THANK YOU SO MUCH LAURA i was stalling finishing it and i messaged and thank goodness Laura said DON’T U WORRY I GOT U GIRL🤣😅😂

I absolutely LOVED this book- what a GREAT way to start of 2023!! I can’t wait for everyone else to be able to read this on January 17th!!😍

I reached my monthly borrow limit online from the library last month and this was a "free read," so I thought why not. Clean, cute romance. Nothing profound and you won't find the answers to any of life's questions in the pages, but, at times, it had some genuinely good dialogue between the MCs and actually touches on some pretty heavy topics.

This book was different in the best way! 3rd person POV, and lovely exploration of some difficult issues. Someone in another review complained about how he was called Yeti even in his POV for half the book, but I thought that was so different and fun! The thing with the movie star and Haley was also not what I expected it to be - in the best way.

I also really loved that it's fade to black/closed door but they still "get together" because it really makes sense for the story. Closed door doesn't have to mean no sex, and I wish more authors did this!

Different, unique, mostly really well written. 4.5 stars (minus .5 for various proofreading errors, not too much)

Honestly very cute, I loved the nickname, and I'm so happy they actually communicated about shit and didn't just go off for weeks being heartbroken which is what we mostly get to see from romance books nowadays so it was a very welcomed breath of fresh air

Just finished this audio last night. It’s a new to me author. I enjoyed it. It has a heavier undertones to it. But it focuses on growth and not letting your past define you. Moving on and learning and living. Another grump vs sunshine.

Thank you @lauralangawrites for sending me an ARC of your latest novel, Hayley and the Yeti!

I have really enjoyed reading this fun, romantic comedy set in Tucson, Arizona. Our outgoing protagonist Hayley is taking some time out following a break up with her long time boyfriend and our second lead Ethan (otherwise known as ‘the Yeti’) is a quiet soul, being most comfortable in his own company and working from home as a software engineer.

The arrival of Haley at Ethan’s apartment complex takes them both on a journey and voyage of self discovery that neither of them were expecting.

Both lead characters are very likeable and I really enjoyed their growth and development as the novel progressed. There are some good supporting roles too, that really added to the storyline.

This book has great pace (if a little jumpy sometimes) and really kept me turning those pages. I loved the dynamics and there is great wit and humour throughout. What a fab story to finish the year with. 4 🌟

Publishing date is 17th January. Be sure to check this one out!

Something I really liked about Laura Langa writing style is that it was very clear how much time had passed between events and chapters. Not sure I’ve read a book that made that so clear (unless it was the title of the chapter) Know what I mean? This aspect helps it not feel like “instant love”
This is a solid 4 stars even with the Taylor Swift song mentions. Also there was sometimes something said that I would react negatively to and then in the next paragraph something I really liked…another new experience for me. I look forward to continuing this series.

This is a closed door romance but I think the spicy girls would still like it…the desire is there!!
Happy reading!

I read Haley and the Yeti and while parts of it were okay, it just didn’t quite click with me.

What worked:

The concept has potential. Haley trying to move past her breakup and connect with the neighbor “Yeti” who has his own past trauma is interesting. Especially the "Yeti" part has Great potential

There were some sweet moments, especially when the characters were vulnerable and honest with each other.

The setting felt engaging enough, and I appreciated that the author tried to bring in emotional depth alongside the romance.

What didn’t work for me:

I couldn’t really connect with the characters. The “Yeti” persona felt over-dramatic about appearance, which wore me out rather than pulling me in.

The worldly lean distracted from the core story. A lot of times this was overly wordy and it didn't deepen the character relationships or the main plot.

The pacing was uneven. Some scenes felt dragged out with drama; others rushed important parts.

Overall, I think this book might appeal more to readers who like dramatic romance with plenty of external conflict. For me, though, I wanted more realistic character connection and less over-the-top behavior
