“He never ran like a criminal. He ran like he was free.”
Dante and Major have been inseparable since childhood—linked by rhythm, survival, and the kind of friendship that borders on something more. In their city, sirens mean run. Run from cops. Run from pain. Run from the truth. But when Major’s home life turns violent and the system fails him, running isn’t enough anymore.
As secrets unravel and silence turns deadly, Dante is forced to protect the boy he’s always loved, or stay quiet and safe like the world expects him to. Their bond has always been unspoken. But in a world that punishes Black boys for being soft, loud, or in love—sometimes silence is the most dangerous thing of all.
Blue Lights is a gut-wrenching, poetic coming-of-age novel about found family, queer Black boyhood, and choosing each other in a world that tries to tear you apart. Perfect for fans of The Hate U Give, Moonlight, and They Both Die at the End.
Wow!!! This book was whew. The story was literally heartbreaking and makes you think of the kids going through this and nobody does nothing about it. Breaks my heart Major and Dee … I love them. Love their relationship and the protection they have for each other. I love Dee’s parents and how supportive they was. So glad I was scrolling through TikTok and found a post about this book. Don’t regret it for a second. I only have it 4 stars cause it could use a few rounds of editing. Some of the mistakes brought me out of the book but the story was powerful and still deserved 4 stars. Great job

When I picked this book up, I was immediately drawn in by the cover, but it's the story that will stay with me for a long time. Blue Lights is a queer coming of age story about Dante and Major. Major has his own demons he's running from, but it's Dante who remains his light even in the toughest times. There were moments in this book that left me feeling absolutely gutted, but also hopeful and happy. You'll want to hug this book once you're done. I absolutely recommend that you pick this up.
