Baptized in battle and bathed in blood, the Emain Macha have lived among humans in silence for the past six thousand years as they pledge their lives to protect them from enslavement at the hands of a maniacal vampire known as The Host. None are more dedicated than Jaden Payne. He has a personal vendetta against his enemy and has vowed to avenge his family’s deaths at all costs. But Jaden faces a new challenge with the emergence of the Firebrand. An ultimate tool of destruction, the Firebrand has the power to eliminate any obstacle in her path, vampires and humans alike.
Alice Roarke knows she’s different than everyone around her. All she wants is a normal life and to fade into the background, but her blackout episodes make it harder for her to fit in. She is unwillingly thrown into the vampire world when Jaden and her paths collide because of a demon who has come back from her past to haunt her again. There’s an undeniable attraction as Jaden keeps her under his care even though they are both damaged souls.
Jaden is in a race against time to keep The Host from harnessing Alice’s powers as well as losing the woman who has found her way into his heart. As passions run high and time runs out, Alice and Jaden will fight the most dangerous battle of trusting each other.
Aislin Keeley was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and eventually transplanted herself in Atlanta, Georgia. She loves nothing more than cool November days curled up on her couch with a cup of coffee and a good book. Over a decade in teaching, she has seen the types of books her students read and it inspired her to create a series they could read. She lives close to her family with her literary kitties Oreo, Shadow, and Peewee to keep her company. When she's not writing, she enjoys reading, listening to symphonic metal, and finding new recipes to bake for her family and friends.
Jaden is a vampire, he wasn't turned he was born vampire. His a dangerous guy, his also a guardian and feared by the shadows.
Alice is your average girl, with a couple of sassy friends. Shes a single girl more comfortable staying in, she's certainly out of place in a nightclub.
Jaden has a new task, to find and protect the Firebrand. A firebrand is a dangerous person that has lots of power. He has no choice as his part of a group of vamps that protect the humans.
Jaden is instantly drawn to Alice and meeting her changes the tough Jaden, I thought he was lovely even though very dangerous.... Alice is a sexy woman, she's had a tough time, can she ever trust again.
I really liked how the background of the vamps was told through the book, not all at the beginning. You could say there are similarities to BDB as in they are guardians, but I found that's about it, they all have there own personalities and gifts.
A thoroughly enjoyable read, with the right mix of romance, sex, adventure and danger. I can't wait for book 2, not sure who's story id like next....
~Pleasantly Surprised!~ I know I'm reading a good book when I have to put my Nookie down and it's lingering in my head. It's like hitting the pause button on a movie you can't wait to finish. Indestructible was a finger flipper, not the middle kind, but I couldn't move my fingers fast enough to get to the end. I felt all the emotions and while I wanted to give Alice a supportive 'girlfriend hug', I gave them to Jaden so he could pass it on to her. The flow of the story, like I said, a movie in my mind as Aislin's words took me for a swim in an ocean of words where the waves didn't drown me.
Paranormal readers will be in for a treat on this new refreshing band of heroes. I don't want to give away too much of the story but its not easy to surprise this reader and the fact that I yelled out 'No Way!' is a big deal. I have a new author to add to my very long list of favorites so don't delay or be left behind and this book would be a great gift to all your reading friends. Bring on book 2 Aislin Keeley - I like swimming in your ocean.
The story reminds me a little of one of my fave series (BDB) Our hero, vampire warrior and guardian is tough and super strong but once he falls in love he changes. He becomes a little softer which was not a bad thing. Our heroine is broken, she had a bad experience that made her doubt herself when it came to romance. This is a new author so I see a lot of potential in the future books in the series. The sex scenes had a lot of steam and were very hot. The story is very romantic! We also get a bit of action in the mix when they are fighting the shadows. I see the other warriors getting their own stories. I at least would like to see Ryder get his own story. No grammatical errors. HEA ending. Will I read more books from this author? Yes!
I loved this story. It has vampires and some huge twists that make it even more interesting. I adore Jaden and Alice. The interactions between the two is sprinkled with all the emotions. Fear, humor, lust and anger. What more can you ask for. OHHHH, that's right, there's one more thing. Lots of steamy sex. I highly recommend this book for anyone loving paranormal reads. I can't wait to meet the other characters in following books.
Indestructible (The Sanguine Sky Chronicles Book 1) Aislin Keeley Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews Genre: paranormal/vampire romance I’m never sure what to expect when reading a debut novel, the writing style is an unknown quantity, and sadly there are lots of paranormal vampire/shape-shifter novels that are..well, thinly plotted and disappointing for me. I guess others like them but I do like a bit of solid writing, a good romance with a backstory that pulls me into the scene. I’m pleased to say I got all that here. The story sets out in a believable pattern, and I liked Alice and Jaden. That’s really important to me, even though its fantasy I need to feel there’s a spark of reality in the way the story is presented, and if I don’t like the main characters – well then I just don’t care what happens and don't enjoy the novel. Alice, she’s had a tough upbringing and has problems with blackouts. Not only that, but two years back she was captured and tortured for two days by a madman who’d killed two other women and planned to kill Alice the next day. Luckily somehow she managed to escape. She’s no idea what happened, but found herself out in the woods instead of chained up in the cabin, and quickly sought help. The scars though – she still carries both physical and mental ones that affect her day to day life and make her seek a background role. When Jaden sees her there’s an immediate reaction, but she finds it hard to believe someone so attractive is interested in her – things like that happen to her friends, not to Alice. Jaden wants to see more of her, ( in all ways!!) but is also caught up in the groups mission to seek out and kill Shadows, people who threaten humans. Its bad timing though as he’s busy, the group he belongs to are looking out for a Firebrand, someone they need to find before the Shadows do...I really like Jaden, hundreds of years old and with a reputation forged from when his family were cruelly killed, along with his actions with his former wife back in the middle ages. Alice seems to have a gentling effect on him, he just wants to protect her and he can’t believe his feelings any more than the group of vampires he fights with can. Its a great story, really good mix of characters, wrapped up in a plot that clearly going to span other novels as well as the more minor ones that comprise this one. Its not a cliff hanger book – Hurrah!! and has an ending, so it could be read as a stand alone though there are more books to come, and I’ll be keen to read them. First books in a series are tough for any author IMO, there’s the plot, the characters and the motives to introduce for the whole series, as well as deliver a decent tale for this book. For me Aislin has done it well here. Stars: Four and a half. Good story, great characters and some sensual erotic sex! ARC supplied via author.
WOW!!! BEST Vampire story since Anne Rice's Lestat! Aislin Keeley has created this beautiful story about trust, love, fear, and strength. This is not your typical vampire story at all. Alice is a human that has overcome a horrible attack and abduction. She has restarted her life as a schoolteacher and keeps very much to herself. Jaden is a warrior and vampire that has also been affected by the deception of another. The plot is full of action and twists. It is very fast paced and gripping. The dialogue is well written and tangible. The story does not feel forced or hurried. The author has taken the time to explain what needs to be explained as the plot unfolds. I was completely amazed by the development of the plot and just what happened. The secondary characters are also well thought out and accent the main characters perfectly. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I truly loved this book. I am not a typical fan of the current vampire stories as they tend to be too over the top but this one is stunning. It was just the right mix of fiction and fantasy. I think that the author has created a perfect story and is giving fans of Anne Rice something to read!
I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review by author Aislin Keeley. This is book 1 of the Sanguine Sky Chronicles series by the author.
Alice Roarke is a school teacher and has not had a date in what seems like forever. But when she is talked into going to a bar with her 2 girlfriends she sees a man who is very handsome. Jaden Payne was searching for the Firebrand but he stopped into a bar for a drink and set his eyes on a beautiful gal he wanted to know. Little did they know their first encounter would lead them down a strange road.
The character Alice was someone who survived a horrific assault and lived another day. Jaden is a dark character but when Alice and Jaden interact with each other you can see the darkness leave him.
This is for mature paranormal romance book lovers because of sexual content and violence. I can't wait for book 2 to see what happens next with Alice and Jaden.
Alice is your average woman trying to move on from her past. Jaden is a vampire warrior. Their two lives intersect.
There is a different take on vampires. Which is a nice change. I like it when authors take vampires and change it some for their story purposes.
This is for paranormal romance readers, so it isn't my "typical genre" that I read. It pulls you in from the first page and it hard to put down! I didn't know how it was going it end. And there was a twist I didn't see coming! The sex scenes were hot too! There is also some action in the book. Knowing what Alice went through in her past, it's hard to imagine how much that changes a person. She's a tough lady! I liked both Alice and Jaden.
This the story of a strong woman who has been forced to face some very serious things in her life. Despite it all, she has maintained a good heart and is a character that I really enjoyed. She finally finds love in a most unusual place-with a vampire.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance. The relationship that blossoms between Alice and Jaden is more realistic than many I have encountered in other paranormal romances. They both have had experiences that have made them shy away from the idea of giving their heart to another.
The supporting characters (mainly the vampires) were really interesting and I hope that they are all featured in their own books at some point. There is plenty of action in this book as well.
A great strong start to a new vampire series. Reminded me a bit of Black Dagger Brotherhood and Midnight Breed. The love story is nice and the sex scenes are hot! The bathtub scene...WOW! This book is very well written. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is I like a bit of humor and snarky banter in my books and this one lacked that. Also it seemed just a little bit wordy at times. All in all a great vampire read. I can't wait to see what happens in future books.
