Living in a fantasy world to escape her parents divorce, L. Anne Beard began making up stories at an early age and began committing them to paper as soon as she could as well. Finding safety even in the darkest of moment of her imagination, she preferred that to the pain and eventual banality of her life growing up. Writing her first complete novel when she was 15 she received praise from her friends and instructors for creativity.

Life happened, as it does and L. Anne Beard packed up her stuff and started a gypsy lifestyle for about 15 years before finally settling in the South. It was then that she picked up the pen once more. In 2009 she became a licensed tour guide for the City of Charleston. It was in learning about this great city that she began her interest in General Beauregard, who spent the majority of the American Civil War in Charleston.

Writer, crafter, historical geek, fangirl and office supply enthusiast, she has been called by many names. She is proud to add Semi-Finalist to that list for The William Faulkner-William Wisdom Competition for her first National Novel Writing Month novel, "A Fog in Charleston".

L. Anne Beard currently reside in Charleston with her husband, dog and cats.

As a Southerner, I'm sometimes wary of books written about events in Southern history or those with Southerners as main characters, especially if the author isn't a native of the South. That was a non-issue with this novel because even though the author was not born here, she has the heart and soul of a native Southerner. I loved the relationship between Caroline and Beauregard--the tension and angst kept me hooked. And I have to admit that I almost stood up and cheered as the events unfolded in the second half of the book...and the ending...well, the ending made me grin. She did General Beauregard and the South proud in her novel. I had no problem following the plot, and I found the interplay between historical and modern elements to be well done. All in all, L. Anne Beard’s first novel was a joy to read, and I can’t wait to read more of her work!

Poorly written and seemingly unedited

Nice premise, but the poor grammar and syntax were so distracting it was hard to read it at all. Too bad. Next time, hire an editor!

I honestly don't read many historical fiction books, just because I am not that bit of a history buff. But this one I really did like. Bit of romance wonderfully mixed in with the historical facts. And if you are a history buff, you get to meet all the heroes of the Civil War, but if you are not that into history, you can let yourself get wrapped into the plot. Wonderful story in which I learned some things about the Civil War that I had not known before, and it leaves you thinking in the end. It was honestly one of those books I didn't want to put down until I had reached the last page.
