The FBI created a plan, a risky one that could slow Brand down, could stop him. Or, if it fails, the plan could just add more bodies to the rising count. Brand's own demons also have a break him. Both his mind and body. Bring him to the ground so that Arthur Morgant, the infamous rapist, returns. For Matthew Brand and the world, the hour glass holds very little sand left. Time has run out. I used to deliver pizza. I was pretty good at it, too. I mean, it's not that hard, but if I'm not going to brag, who is, right? Anyways, so I'm delivering pizza while I'm in college, and my boss has been in the pizza industry like six years. He's supposed to graduate from college this year, and I ask him, what are you going to do after college? We're all supposed to go out and conquer the world right after college, so this guy has to have some kind of plan.

He looked at me like I was delusional.

"I'm a writer, man."

Those four words changed my life more so than anything else ever spoken to me.
I'd always written, since I was twelve participating in online-wrestling forums in which you acted out your character. I wrote because it came naturally. Never once, in the entirety of my nineteen years did I think that writing could be a career though, until a Pizza Sage said those four words to me.

So what did I do? I went home and wrote a short story and immediately understood that I was the greatest writer to ever touch a keyboard. I brought it to the Pizza Sage and he told me what anyone could have told me--it was horrible. I might be dumb, probably am, but I'm also tenacious.

I spent the next seven years writing almost every day. My first novel grew to the length of 40,000 words, then I threw it away. My second novel grew to 140,000 words. I didn't throw it away, but it was rejected about 50 times by agents. My next novel ended up at around 55,000 words, which I showed to a few friends and shelved. Then I wrote Dead Religion, which is the only reason I have an author page at Amazon.

I have had four short stories published, paid and unpaid. 'Effects May Vary' won an award that was voted on by readers, which was pretty cool.

I'm currently getting my Masters in Business at the University of Georgia's Terry School of Business. I'm doing this in order to not deliver pizzas but still keep the lights on. I have a girlfriend who will soon be my fiancé, and after ten years, I imagine she's ready for that title.

I want to own a yacht.

Wow. Finally over. So, i don't yet know how to hide spoilers, and there may be spoilers so, you may want to just scroll away from my review...I'll leave some space between this and whatever I write below....

I feel I should warn prospective readers...this book is messy...it contains everything. EVERYTHING. Is it murder in its different gruesome ways? It's in this book. Rape. Torture. Gore. Blood. Suffering. Human trafficking. Masturbation...not your garden variety of that either...
And that was just ike the first chapter.
If you are like me and you can skip all that, then good for you. That made the book easy for me to read...most of the soliloquy and almost all the violence was pretty easy to skip. They added little to the book. Brand wants to give up. Art wants to pray. Art wants to blame God. Art doesn't want to blame God. Henry wwatts to call his bro and his mum. Jake is thinking. Morgant wnts to rape.
But did I like this book? Did I like how it ended? Yes. The 3 stars I'm giving it is cos of the messy violence. I would have given it 4.5, easy.
I liked the characters. I waned Morgant to die quickly. I wanted Brand to be shot in the head. I wated Joe to kill Brand. I wanted Henry to survive (and not just physiclly). I wanted Art to beat the shit out of Brand and Morgant. Especially Morgant.
All in all, it was a good series. I don't now if I'll ever read Beers work again cos he scared me with his viciousness in this last book...but I will recommend this series to any adult, and I will warn them to get ready for semen, blood, vomit, feces, urine and brain matter. Cos this book has a lot of that.
And someone please help me thank Beers. He gave me the entire series free.

I Am In Awe

David Beers is truly one of my favorite authors, and I just came upon his work a month ago. He is a prodigious writer, so I have been lucky enough to be able to peel through quite a few amazing books one after the other. It has been a very pleasurable and very inspiring to find an author that has such talent to entertain a reader through intelligent writing. Beers writes with passion, develops characters that are fully realized on the page, has confliction thar is relatable, and moves his books at a fast pace.

I have read the first two books in this series and the final one is brilliantly rendered. I am very pleased with his choices in concluding the series. What I am even further amazed by regarding David Beers is his very heart-rending afterword. I cried reading it, especially as I can very easily relate to him and his well-penned, lovely words that he chose to lay himself bare about a very personal part of his life. I find it both brave and exquisitely beautiful. I thank him for that, in addition to his unique writing I have come to love.

Give David Beers an honest try and I think you will also soon be a huge fan, as I have become. As always, happy reads to all, from the bottom of my heart.

Matthew Brand is getting closer to accumulating the 55 bodies he needs to power the device that will blow up the sun, but both the FBI and an earlier victim are closing in on him, as are the other personalities that appear to be inhabiting his mind and body. More are tortured and many more die before the final showdown in the race to save the planet.

Thoroughly enjoyed book one; was frustrated by book two as it didn't have an end (it wasn't a whole book) and book three just went on for too long. The constant internal thoughts and questioning by every single character just sent me nuts. That's not to say it isn't a good story, it is. The original concept was great and, even though it required a good dose of suspended disbelief, hooked me completely. However, the premise of the second two books (or, I would argue, the second book in two parts) was just a bit too much. The science was so wacky that it just pulled me out of the story. With a bloody good edit this would make a great sequel to the first. That's an edit for both book two and three. Get them down to one book of about 100k words and it would be a massive improvement.

Devil' Dream Series #3

I had to plunge into Series #3 as soon as I completed #2, couldn't wait to see where the author would take the story next. A mad genius is intent on ending our world as we know it, with the capability to carry out his plan. Pitted against a series of able law enforcement officials, and a couple of bad guys seeking revenge, can the evil genius be stopped? What ingenious twists and turns could the author create that would surpass the events in the prior two books? You must read the set and marvel at the "inventive" mind of the author!

I was originally given a free or reduced copy of this book in exchange for an honest and impartial review. This has not influenced my review at all.

Another wonderful story... can I trust that it's really over - this time? I'm not positive and that's a good thing! All the 'strings' were tied of nicely, but there are so many nice characters that can still be played with. Looking forward to the next book - whatever the subject!

Great read and hard to put down. Almost didn't start as the second one did not hold my attention. But this one kept you thinking about whether this was really possible and what could they possibly come up with to catch him. Enjoyed!

I totally loved book one.
Book number two, I was not as passionate about. Now that I have read book number three, I am so glad I stayed for the ride. What a fantastic author.
