It's time to save the planet!... and fall in love.
Balance is the key to all life. Fires and floods herald renewal and new growth... in moderation. But when happens when the balance is gone and natural disasters reign unchecked?
The Elemental Men have us covered! The living embodiment of water, fire, air, earth, and the essence of life itself, their job is to bring balance back. They've had more lives than anyone can imagine, and their mission is to save the world. There's no time for love.
LOUISA MASTERS started reading romance much earlier than her mother thought she should. While other teenagers were sneaking out of the house, Louisa was sneaking romance novels in and working out how to read them without being discovered. She’s spent most of her life feeling sorry for people who don’t read, convinced that books are the solution to every problem. As an adult, she feeds her addiction in every spare second, only occasionally tearing herself away to do things like answer the phone and pay bills. She spent years trying to build a “sensible” career, working in bookstores, recruitment, resource management, administration, and as a travel agent, before finally conceding defeat and devoting herself to the world of romance novels. Louisa has a long list of places first discovered in books that she wants to visit, and every so often she overcomes her loathing of jet lag and takes a trip that charges her imagination. She lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she whines about the weather for most of the year while secretly admitting she’ll probably never move.
This whole reincarnation storyline isn't my jam. They already fell in love millennia ago. And now they're going to save the world from climate change and human stupidity?
This works much better as a whole rather than five interconnected short (very short) stories. I read the first story, Aether, in the Fated Mates anthology and just felt it was way too short to do what it was trying to do; it was a fun introduction, enough to make me look into this volume of the rest of the stories, but it all happens way too fast. The whole book suffers from a bit of the same really - too brief, like we're just setting the scenes and introducing the characters rather than getting a full story. Aqua's story is the only one that has a bit of dramatic tension trying to find out who tried to sabotage River, same with Flame's story, but both resolved very quickly. George's story is the only one that I would really class as a romance, featuring a relationship that develops between characters; the rest are just instantly attraced, decide they're in love and get together straight away (very literally in Zephyr and Storm's case). However, I should probably have known better and steered clear of a 'fated mates' book, as it's usually an excuse for insta-love and I can never really feel for two characters who barely know each other just deciding they're in love, so that's definitely a 'me' issue, if fated mates are your thing then you will probably feel differently. The characters are lovely though, and there's a lot of humour, but it's all too rushed and brief to really get to know the characters or develop any plot. If this was an introduction to the characters within a longer book it would have been fine, but as a complete article there just wasn't enough there for me to really connect with, despite the fun I had reading it.
I absolutely love this book. I posted notes along the way for every novella, I was so invested in every one of them.
October 23, 2024 – 14.0% "Finished Aether. Had not read fated mates before. I have had days like that Perry, completely understand, but could use a hot man coming in to the day naked for me 🤭🥰" October 23, 2024 – 35.0% "Aqua. This has never happened before. Outside help. River 😍. The water likes him too. I know what I am getting out of these books and I absolutely need it. This is my break from a much darker read and is helping me relax. But I absolutely adore these characters, they are the sweetest so far and Perry is very dramatic. He suits Aether so much." October 24, 2024 – 56.0% "Flame. How hot was he 🔥🔥 and Bran. But Cody was definitely a great addition to the family. I am loving the environmental aspect of this whole series and it does work. This is so perfect for this time. It is also so much defining the generational differences of millennial and alpha. As a GenX I just back here laughing at those generations but loving how the author is bringing it to life" October 26, 2024 – 77.0% "Zeph is so airy. And yes that is such a compliment and is perfectly paired up with Storm. Storm is not what I was expecting when you hear that name but is actually the needed character for Cody to age up" As a firm believer in climate change I love how this book uses that and makes it a topic and hot topic. Definatly a 5 star for me, highly recommend the books read them in order, get the complete set. As George Carlin once said, "We’re going away. And we won’t leave much of a trace, either. Maybe a little Styrofoam … The planet’ll be here and we’ll be long gone. The planet’ll shake us off like a bad case of fleas." we need to save the planet to save the human race, my children live here.
Louise Mathers has completely captivated me with The Elemental Men! This book is such a thrilling, magical ride filled with romance, danger, and powerful elemental forces that will keep you hooked from start to finish.
The world-building is incredible, pulling you into a universe where elemental powers shape everything, and the characters are just as mesmerizing. Each of the Elemental Men has his own unique abilities, personalities, and backstory, making them stand out in their own ways, yet somehow they are all equally magnetic. I loved the way their elements tied into their personalities—it added such a rich layer to their dynamic.
The tension and chemistry between the characters are absolutely palpable, and the way the relationships evolve over time had me eagerly turning pages. The stakes are high, the action intense, and the emotional depth of the story adds a powerful punch. There are twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat, and I never knew what was going to happen next.
If you’re into books with strong world-building, elemental magic, and sizzling romance, The Elemental Men is an absolute must-read. Louise Mathers has created a fantasy world I can’t wait to dive back into!
I loved this series and enjoyed everything it had to offer. The characters were written beautifully,it was funny and yet talked about seriously issues. The series was brilliantly written.
I mean who doesn’t want to read about the 4 elements of nature and life itself being incarnated as human beings, falling inlove with their soulmates/fatedmates,while they work hard to save humanity from themselves.
Found family is one of those tropes that just has me in a chokehold and any book or series that has that element already gets a star or two from me.The idea of people who are not blood related finding each other and caring, trusting, loving and showing up for each other, just melts my heart and this series did it beautifully.
My favorite book in the series is Pebble and it’s mainly because of my sweet broken boy Clay,he deserves every love and affection he gets and I love that idiot Pebble for being exactly what Clay needs.
Elemental Men is a series of Novellas by Louisa Masters. I was so taken with these stories.
The characters were so well written and so descriptive, I loved every one of them. I think Flame was my favourite, but only by a tiny bit (ya know, firefighters and I love fated mates)
Each story had it’s own ‘Element’ that set each other MCs apart from each other.
There is so much charm, humour, swoon moments, and some great paranormal action that grabs you and pulls you right into the story.
I am not used to reading books that are ‘not of this reality’ but after a while, it felt normal and I was along for the ride.
These are short books, around 50/60 pages but they are nicely paced and there’s enough back story and plot to keep the interest to the end.
If you’re looking for a group of stories that feature gorgeous MCs fighting for humanity’s survival, get this, its a ride!

In this series of novellas, the elements of the world appear in human form when the balance is disrupted. If all five appear, we are in deep doo-doo. Aether , the fifth element appears, reincarnated and embodying life. He quickly finds Perry, his soulmate over lifetimes but mortal and Perry decides when and if to end life. The other elements find humans to mate and help in the salvation of life. Aqua (water) finds River, a marine biologist. Flame (fire) falls for a fireman, Bran and Zepher (air) finds his mate, a web designer and marketer Storm. George (earth) meet his man Clay working in a garden center. It takes all the elements with the help of their human mates to save the planet. It's an interesting take on ecology, climate control and ho humans decide our own destiny with our planet. I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.
Aether (aka the firth element) A cute short with a lot of suspension of disbelief required, it’s a fantasy world, just enjoy the cruise. Aqua (aka water) Flame (aka Fire) Zephyr (aka Air) Pebble (aka Earth)
I listened to the most of these stories on a quiet Sunday while knitting and doing house chores. The stories are light, though they cover a serious topic - climate change. It’s a strange mix of goofy humor and a serious topic. Joel Leslie does a great job with the myriad of characters. The last story though? I wanted to smack the MMCs for not freaking talking to each other, instead they pined for each other for 3+ years!
Bought from author's website, delivered via BookFunnel.
This was cute and fun. I think the romance could have been done way better, but I guess that wasn’t the point of these little stories. Still, the best part was probably George’s story because it had pining, even if the miscommunication was a bit too much. My favorite was how Aqua always wanted to eat soup, and made smoothies using water. So funny.
Joel Leslie did a great job with the narration too.
I started listening to the audio book cause it sounded kinda silly and light. Was I expecting to like the characters as much as I did? Nope 😆 ended up Really liking them and way more invested than I thought I'd be. I also ended up wanting more for the last story as it felt much shorter than all the others.
Not at all sure how to rate this. Unique trope. Very likeable MCs. But disappointed at the ending- I really needed to read about HOW they save the planet! This was just hinted at in the epilogue, felt like that trivialised this very important issue.
Sweet fluffy romances but also cautionary tales about climate change. Masters was able to make wonderful points about what could happen but giving hope with fun characters with shades of Captain Planet.
This was a fun time!! I was genuinely surprised that, while I enjoyed the romance, I really enjoyed the discussion around conservation and attempting to save the planet.
The novellas were all very cute, but too short to really connect to any of the characters. I found the elemental concept interesting though and the personalities were all very fun. As a whole this series was lighthearted and delightful.
the premise of this whole series is so unbelievably silly but I had a fun fucking time
it can be a smidge too quippy even for Louisa Masters and the himbos are borderline too stupid but the stories are ultimately about environmentalism and conservation so I can't be mad
