Jack’s little heart began to thump,
As he prepared to take a jump.
He swung around and then he flexed.
His thousandth jump was coming next.

Then tightening his coils, he sank,
And listened to the music crank.
He sprung out free, no longer trapped.
His rusty spring broke loose and SNAPPED!

What’s a Jack-in-the-box without his home? Poor Jack has never jumped out of anything before, but his worn out box. Can Barker, the neighborhood dog, prove to Jack that there are many more exciting jumps outside in the great, big world? Young readers will find lots of giggles in the rhyming text and wondrous jumps that Barker and Jack discover together. The full screen art by illustrator, Brian Allen, positively leaps off the page. The author, Julia Dweck, has done a wonderful job of weaving in the subtle message that it’s important to believe in yourself and to think outside of the box in order to realize life’s wondrous possibilities. This bouncy tale from Sleepy Sheep Productions will leave young readers jumping for joy! Leveled for young readers ages 4 – 8, but relevant to readers of all ages.

This delightful book may be leveled ffor readers ages 4 to 8 years of age, but it has lessons for readers of all ages. What are those lessons? Try something new, you never know what you’ll discover. Have confidence in yourself. You don’t know what you can accomplish if you don’t try. Think outside the box. You don’t have to be the same as everyone else. It’s okay to be unique. Be innovative. Be inventive. Be creative.

When Jack jumped his 1000th jump, his spring broke and he jumped right out of his box. He thought he was broken and useless. But Barker showed him something delightful. There were many more ways to jump. The wonderful pictures will delight children as they jump through the pages with these two friends and count the number of ways there are to jump. Then they can come up with more ways to jump on their own (bunny hop, hop on one foot, hop backwards etc). Jump! Is great for sparking a child’s imagination.

The rhyming text is delightful, fun to read and fun to listen to. The rhythm is not contrived and flows easily. The illustrations are bright and cheerful. They definitely add to the story with their simplicity and clarity.

I think Jump! would be a good addition to any after-school care, classroom or home library to encourage self-esteem, imagination and confidence. I gave this book 5 stars out of 5.

Thank you to the author for providing an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.

Julia Dweck has written a children’s book that is not only enjoyable and colorful, but is also a great lesson for children and adults alike. This happy and charming story captures the imagination of children while also conveying an important message. The illustrations by Brian Allen are so colorful and fun they leap off the page and bring the story of Jack to lif

Jack is happy in his little box until a spring breaks loose and he feels lost, as if he is disconnected from the only home he has ever known. He meets Barker and his world changes, as he trusts Barker to show him the world outside his box. Jack soon enjoys many new and exciting experiences that give him a sense of wonder and excitement. When Barker finds Jacks’ box, Jack decides that there are so many things to experience outside the box that he no longer needs it.

The message in this story is very strong and conveys to children that coming out of their comfort zone, and trying things they never dreamed of doing, opens up their lives to many new and exciting opportunities.

"Jump" is a charming and uplifting rhyming picture book that I recommend for both children and parents. This book shows the importance of letting children explore new things that will enrich their lives, and light a whole new spark in their imaginations

Jack is a Jack-in-the-box, but not for long! His spring breaks, catapulting him into the unknown. Jack can't find his box and believes he can't jump without it. However, her meets a new friend who shows him that anything is possible if you give it a try.

Jump! is a bright and colorful book, with an entertaining and adventurous story told in rhyme. Brian Allen's illustrations fairly jump off the page and add a special element to the book. The story itself contains a great message about self-belief. As the author states, "If you believe in yourself, you can jump with your eyes wide open."
The story is followed by interesting jumping facts, a scrambled word game (not easy!), and story writing tips.

A great motivational book for kids of all ages.

Jack in the Box is proud of his accomplishment, he is taking his 1000th jump. Things do not go as planned, his spring is rusty and breaks, leaving him outside of the box. He just wants to go home.

While searching for his box, he and Barker (the dog) go on a great adventure. They bungee jump, jump from an airplane, jump into a lake, etc. Being outside his box is more fun than he could imagine.

I thought this story was very cute. I loved the message portrayed, that sometimes stepping outside of your comfort zone leads to opportunities that are wonderful. This book has a cute rhyme and flows very well. The illustrations are well done.

This book is sure to keep the attention and spark the imagination of children.

First, Brian Allen's illustrations are amazing - full of color and action. My daughter loved them, and they alone make the book worth taking a look at.

The story is a fast-paced adventure full of rhyme. Although younger kids will enjoy the pictures, there are several things which will need to be explained. Therefore, I recommend this to kids around 5-6 years old (as older would probably be a bit bored). As always with Julia Dweck's books, there's several wonderful little activities at the end, which kids will really enjoy doing. A lovely book all around.

Do you~
"jump to conclusions"
"jump through hoops"
or "jump on the bandwagon"

Do you have a "comfort-zone?"

Jack does~ it is his box!

Then one day Jack's spring sprung and he jumped right out of that box.

Feeling broken he set out to find his box~

BUT instead he found a new friend~

And that friend helped him find a way to jump "outside the box."

They...

jumped rope
jumped on a trampoline
and jumped from a plane

So many things to jump on and jump from and jump over!

Read to find out what Jack does when he finally finds his box again :)

"Change can be scary and takes a leap of faith and trust"

DARLING, DARLING BOOK!
VERY CREATIVE!
LOVED IT!

"When you believe in yourself, you can jump with your eyes open."

—Julia Dweck

This was a delightful read! I read it to my baby girl and she smiled and tried to touch the characters on the screen. The story explores the unlikely friendship between Jack (a broken Jack in the Box toy who has jumped out of his box and subsequently lost the box) and the family dog, Barker, who shows him that he doesn’t need his box to Jump! It has a pleasant rhyming pattern and a fun ending.

**I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.**

A great story for teaching young children to think outside the box, literally and figuratively. Easy to read rhyming story with big bold illustrations on each page. Jack and Barker have great adventures in jumping which will leave kids smiling and laughing. I especially loved the words on the last page.

And so the two friends hopped away.
The moral is quite clear, I'd say.
To think outside the box, you must
First take a leap of faith and trust!

I love all the books by Dweck and I especially love Jump! The poetic story with the amazing illustrations makes for a most wonderful reading experience. To add to that, there is a moral lesson that is appropriate for adults and children alike. My boys and I just adored this book. As a mother and teacher this book is a hit. I just can't get enough a Dweck's stories! I also cannot wait to create a whole Art Through Stories lesson around this book! 5 stars

A story about believing in yourself.

Jack does what he always does and winds himself up for a jump, and SNAP! Out of his box he goes flying!

Jack doesn’t feel right outside of his box and he’s afraid he’ll be out with tomorrow’s trash. He cannot find his box!

He goes on a great many jumping adventures with Barker, the dog, who finally reveals his box has been kept safe all this time.

Jack comes to a realization about his box, and being a Jack-in-the-box.

A bright and cheerful book, perfect for read aloud time with your children. Jump is a fun look at facing fears and the wonder of trying something new. This is exactly what a children's book should be.

(I received a review copy of this from the author)

Colorful book with a core message of changing your thinking/thinking outside the box. Bouncing, rhythmic text could make this a lot of fun to read out loud to a class. Could be a great introduction to problem solving lessons.
