They want a maid. I need a hiding place, a sanctuary to escape a monster haunting my every step.
I’m used to holding my breath whenever anybody reaches out, flinching away from anyone who steps too close. Large men set my nerves on edge like nothing else.
I thought I would never recover from a betrayal I didn’t see coming. Until them…
A biker who fought his way out of a trailer park, a war hero who hasn’t felt like a hero in too long, and an heir with a past almost as scarred as mine.
Makhi, Vonn, and Nash refuse to let me face my darkness alone. And maybe, just maybe, I can find a measure of peace with them.
Liar Byrd is the first book in a contemporary romance duet where the heroine doesn’t have to choose. Featuring a woman looking to escape her dark past and the three possessive men who save her.
This story deals with dark themes. See author notes. Read with care.
Plot: 3.5/5 • Smut: 0/5 —————> Reader beware, this is labeled as a reverse harem, but there is absolutely no spice or steam to this one in the series. Nada. So, don’t get your hopes up.
She’s living in a compound with jesus freaks and her mother. She hates it. She’s miserable. She wants to escape but she can’t leave her mother. Opportunity arises after she’s forced to marry the head honcho and her mother sadly passes away. While on the run, she steals an identity, changes her hair and name. She gets a job working for a man with a mansion as his maid. He along with his two friends, a housekeep and a gardener all reside in the residence. She’s a nut case. Every sound, every movement, every time she does anything besides clean she thinks is the pastor honcho out to come find her. She’s a nervous wreck. This ends on a sad cliffy. I was hoping for better, but still sad.
Like I said, zero spice. So there’s no smut factor here. 🤙🏼 The writing was good. The characters besides Byrdie were all likable. (IMO)
This was actually a lovely read. I really liked the fact that there was no spice but beautiful tension. I think in the scenario of such a traumatized heroine it really doesn’t make any sense for there to be any, and I wish more books did it this way because someone going through this much it just wouldn’t make sense to rush into things, so lovely the realness was shown.
It had way too many classic rushed romance stories, and what is going on with the crazy killing? Anyways, too much of the cringe guy as knight in shining armour. The scenes just weren’t that good. The core characters and story are just wayyyy too similar to other stories, the rushed romance when they’ve met like a week ago, the falling for the brute, the rich kid, the army guy, and the délinquant. Then, there’s also the classic maid trop, the staying at home, the night dining table talk, etc. Too many redundant things. Except, this book somehow lives in a world where these guys kill Willy nilly? Girl…. The only reason this book is still at 3 is cause the cult thing is pretty interesting and different.
Ummm. There's a word used that I actually can't quite believe made it in to be honest. This is the sentence:
'A jumble of clothes, ages, and races. Brown skin. White skin. Yellow and olive.'
As far as I'm aware it's been racist for a long time to say someone has yellow skin, for a start nobody has yellow skin, and it was commonly used derogatively. I kind of hope that isn't what she meant but it reads that way to me.
This book was great. I think it was extremely heartbreaking. I loved that it didn’t show that she got over her fear quite right away. I loved that it talked about her emotional distressed, and how scared she would naturally be. I love where this book is going it was a great read. I read it in a day and a half so definitely zoomed through it. Gonna pick up book two right away to finish this story between them.
I adore contemporary reverse harem romances, and this was amazing! An original story and a cliffhanger you're willing to let go for. Im so excited for book 2, fingers crossed we don’t need to wait too long.
The beginning of this short tugs on your heart with understanding the pain the FMC endured. She finds her way to a place that could be safe only for trouble to find her. It was written very well but ends on a cliffhanger.
This was a good enough read but some minor contradictions in the story which were annoying. The instant connection between the main characters wasn’t believable but it is fiction. So far no RH in this book but will read the next as ends on a cliffhanger.
Triggers This was an interesting read with twists and turns, it end on a big cliff. Will Byrdie find her safe place or is she doomed to run scared for the rest of her life?
I enjoyed this book, I do like a wounded FMC not gonna lie, and also the betrayal factor, always gets me right in the feels.
Byrdie found something special in each of her relationships with the MMC’s but Vonn and his hero personality and how he soft he is for her just stole it for me. I have to say the relationship with Nash was a bit slow and didn’t get as much chemistry from it to me but still loved him for how easily he took Byrdie in.
Omg Makhi, what did you do?! Oh, what a cliffhanger I need book 2 stat!
The Fmc is running from an abusive husband & cult leader. The 3 mmcs take her in & hire her as their maid They realizecthatcshes running scared & using a fake name. So far all 3 are super protective over her & just want to help her. This is a sloooow burn with only a kiss but there is promise to be more. The book is short tho almost too short.
On my reread for the next book I realized how truly horrible this book is 😅 what is with the insane contradictions page to page? One paragraph she says she lost so much weight her periods stop, and three paragraphs later she said she was almost done with her period after it had started a few days prior. PARAGRAPHS. how is that not caught? the author also mixes up the names of the MCs and confuses the crap out of me. I had to reread the end several times because she kept interchanging Nash and Makhi.
I absolutely adored this book. I literally finished the entire thing in less than a day! Byrdie is such a fantastic written FMC, so much so that I had to write my first review ever.
I cannot wait for the second book for this duet. I’ll definitely be counting down the days until release!
