USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestselling author Janie Crouch writes what she loves to read: passionate romantic suspense.
After a lifetime on the East Coast—and a six-year stint in Germany due to her husband's job as support for the U.S. Military—Janie has settled into her dream home in Front Range of the Colorado Rockies. She loves engaging in all sorts of adventures (triathlons! 200-mile relay races! mountain treks!), traveling, and surviving life with four kids.
Heroes exist. Let a Janie Crouch book prove it to you.
I have to say that Lincoln really won me over when he and Marie organized the desserts, so when I saw that this one was about him, I really was looking forward to it and it did not disappoint.
Sure Lincoln marches to the beat of his own drum, something his family knows and they help him as needed. Morgan is someone who also marches to the beat of her own drum, so how great is it that these two found each other. Sure thing were cagey at first, only speaking on the computer for a bit each night, but it went on years and they were brutally honest with things, while not giving personal details. It worked for them and ended up being a life line Morgan needed and used with no hesitation. I was so glad that Lincoln figured out what was going on and with help from the "boys" they got Morgan to safety.
From there things were iffy. Obviously it took Morgan a bit to come back to herself after all that happened. But once she and Lincoln figured out ways to see what was going on, it seemed to help them both. What they found out was so crazy! Once again, Lincoln went to his family for help, sadly this end time things didn't go as smooth as the first time. It was iffy it they would make it at all, but in the end the threat was gone and Morgan's reputation cleared.
I loved how this one ended, it was perfect for this couple!
This book deserved so much more attention from me. Despite my limited time for reading this month and the intermittent way I was forced to read this one, I adored it! Such a clever break from how these novels usually make me feel and the usual predictability.
The reason I’m starting to not like Janie Crouch’s books is because they are getting more and more unbelievable. Someone who is able to download data. Yeah, right.
I'm incredibly sorry to see this series end. I'd move to Oak Creek if those characters could be my friends, too. ;)
But I loved Lincoln & Morgan's story! Such unique, special characters. Despite the heavy suspense elements (the bad guy was so, so bad!), it was a tender, caring love story. Plenty of steam, but such a beautiful relationship between two characters who didn't believe they'd ever be right for someone else.
One of the best things in this series (and its predecessor this next gen is spun off of) is the loyal, supportive friendships. Even if you're not what some outsiders might consider "normal", you've got family and friends who will have your back. Love it!
Lincoln and Morgan connected over 2 years ago on the dark web as Binary and Mercury. A friendship developed so when she was kidnapped by nefarious individuals who wanted to use her extraordinary memory as a walking file cabinet, she reached out to him for help.
Hero’s of Oak Creek: Hero’s Touch Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️
This is the final book in the next generation Linear Tactical series and I’m not going to lie I’m sad. This whole series is by far one of my favorites and it was one of the first series I became an ARC Reader for. So this will be like my love letter to this series and amazing author Janie Crouch for creating this wonderful series I love to talk about. Linear Tactical began with Cyclone and if you haven’t read it I urge you to, it’s still one of my favorites.
Lincoln Bollinger is the extremely gifted child of Baby and Quinn, he absolutely has his moms brilliance and his dads gift for knowing when something is wrong. His cousins have always thought he was strange but loved him for it. Not everyone can understand how his truly brilliant mind works. Morgan Reece has the unique gift of remembering everything, some people find her unusual and become uncomfortable while others see her as some circus oddity. Morgan surrounds herself with books because she’s found them to be safe for her. However her quirky dark web conversations with the brilliant Lincoln give her a semblance of calm. Lincoln isn’t sure what to make of his conversations and why he almost feels excited about them. Evil has a way of finding the light and wanting to take it and use it for their own gain. When a stranger knows Morgan’s name but she doesn’t know him, can she survive when someone wants to test her gift? If Morgan disappears will anyone notice, will Lincoln notice? Can Lincoln and his family rescue Morgan in more ways than just one? What would anyone want with a memory that never forgets even the smallest of details? How long can someone stay hidden from the world? When every aspect of a plan comes together yet still falls apart can Lincoln trust himself and the instincts he was born with because of his family? The way I’m more on the edge of my seat with this story because it’s the kids of the OG’s and I’m beyond terrified at certain times. The way I had tears rolling down my face once I reached the end, is a small indicator of how truly amazing this series is. This book is for anyone and everyone that’s ever felt like they weren’t enough or they were too much. It’s a story that proves that everyone deserves love, hope and family..
The amount of suspense and excitement this book offers I don’t know how anyone couldn’t fall in love with any of the Linear Tactical Hero’s! The way this book has aspects of all the OG Linear Tactical stories that I wanted every single character to appear just to almost have a reunion of sorts. It’s hard to explain how much this series has meant to me as a reader and how it’s a series I don’t want to ever end although I know this is the end. Thank You Janie for creating such an amazing, incredible series that is so close to my heart and also a comfort read because you will experience all the emotions and then some.
I have been looking forward to Lincoln's story since the LT: Oak Creek series began. The way his mind works intrigues me, and has from his first appearance as a kid in the LT epilogues. I loved how his family and friends accept him exactly as he is, while finding ways to help him navigate social situations. Their guidance comes from love and respect, accompanied by a fair amount of good-natured teasing. The story of the birthday party made me laugh out loud.
For two years, Lincoln, AKA Binary, has had an online friendship with a woman he knows only as Mercury. I loved how each chapter began with one of their online exchanges, illustrating how they understand each other. They "meet" every night at 9 pm. Then, one night, Mercury is gone - no goodbye, no explanation. Lincoln's confusion and dismay are evident as he worries that she has ghosted him.
Mercury, AKA Morgan, is a librarian with an eidetic memory. She never forgets anything she has seen, heard, or read. She, too, has had her social challenges and is more comfortable behind a screen than dealing with people. She considers setting up an in-person meeting with Binary, but is kidnapped before she can follow through.
The suspense of this book drew me in from the start. I could feel Morgan's terror from the moment she awoke and learned what her captor's demands were. Her desperate attempt to contact Binary left her with the faintest stirring hope of rescue. I loved seeing how Lincoln transformed from the behind-the-scenes geek to the tactical operator with the training he's never had to call on before. The intensity of the rescue scene nearly broke my heart when Lincoln found Morgan. The tension continued as Lincoln and Morgan worked to uncover the motive for her kidnapping, with a final confrontation that blew me away.
I loved watching the relationship between Lincoln and Morgan develop. They already know each other well through two years of daily online conversations. They understand each other's challenges and have built an enduring trust. Their first in-person meeting, when Lincoln rescues her, was awkward, sweet, and incredibly emotional. Lincoln was so worried about her and so cautious in caring for her, afraid of doing something wrong. When he's with Morgan, he feels that he can be himself without worrying about censoring himself. For Morgan, Lincoln is the only man she trusts. Neither expected the chemistry that drew them even closer. I loved how they were perfect for each other.
I loved the involvement of the other residents of Oak Creek. Their support was immediate and unquestioning when Lincoln needed them, and not just for the rescue. It was terrific to see how they accepted Morgan as she was because she was important to Lincoln. The scenes at the Eagles Nest were great, and I especially enjoyed the epilogue.
This story is about Lincoln (aka Binary) and Morgan (aka Mercury). They are two complex and unusual characters who are extremely intelligent but also very quirky. Morgan has an eidetic memory which means she never forgets anything she sees and hears. Since she loves to read, she spends most of her time reading books. Since she remembers them all, she is constantly quoting passages from memory and relating them to real life.
Lincoln is also very intelligent and spends most of his time with his computers. He is very analytical and has a brain that doesn’t work like the average person. Both Morgan and Lincoln spend their time alone because they do not feel comfortable with others. They are both aware that people judge them to be bizarre, abnormal and basically weird. Thus they spend all of their time inside alone with their computers and their books.
One day, Lincoln and Morgan accidentally meet online. When they realize that they are very much like each other and that neither of them fit in with “normal” people, they are ecstatic that they have finally found someone who understands them. Thus, for two years, every night at 9:00, they regularly communicate with each other online. However, they still do not reveal their real names, and only know each other as Binary and Mercury.
One day, while leaving a conference, Morgan is kidnapped by an evil man, Randall, who has a scheme to use her memory as a “human hard drive.” Randall forces her to memorize a lot of illegal information from different government systems so that he can read them at any time. Meanwhile, whenever Morgan does something wrong, Randall torments her by cutting her with a knife. Plus, at night he shuts her in a VERY small metal box where she does not have the ability to move.
One time when Morgan is left alone in the computer room, she manages to contact Lincoln, and she sends him a SOS with the coordinates to her location. When Lincoln receives it, he and his friends create a complex plan so they can rescue Morgan.
This book will keep readers on the edge of their seats from the beginning to the very end. The complex plot contains riveting suspense, lots of fast- paced action and brilliant unexpected twists and turns.
I love the characters because their unusual and quirky personalities make them unique and loveable. Also, because they do not have human emotions and feelings, I was able to appreciate how much in love they were by their abnormally sweet and romantic gestures, thoughts and words!!
Captivating characters, complex plot and riveting suspense!!
HERO’S TOUCH is the sixth instalment in Janie Crouch’s contemporary, adult LINEAR TACTICAL: OAK CREEK erotic, romantic suspense series, a next generation set in the author’s Linear Tactical worlds. This is thirty year old, Lincoln ‘Binary’ Bollinger, son of Blake ‘Baby’ and Quinn Bollinger, and Morgan “Mercury’ Reece’s story line. HERO’S TOUCH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers
Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives ( Morgan and Lincoln) HERO’S TOUCH follows in the wake of the abduction of our story line heroine. For two years, Lincoln has been communicating online with a woman he knows only as Mercury, a woman whose brain works and functions similarly to his own but when Mercury doesn’t log in at the assigned time, Lincoln begins a deep dive in the hopes of uncovering what happened and why. The rescue of Morgan finds Lincoln facing a woman who understands the complexities of an overactive mind, a mind that remembers everything and everyone she has ever encountered.
The world building focuses on codes and secrets, atypical thought processes, memory and innovation, power and vengeance. When life is overwhelming, both Morgan and Lincoln revert inward, to a safer place only they understand, and in this, our heroine struggles when her world begins to spiral out of control.
The relationship between Morgan and Lincoln begins two years earlier when our couple met online, using poems and code. Having never met, Lincoln struggles when Morgan goes missing, a struggle he must endure in an effort to save her life. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and energetic secondary and supporting characters from both the Linear Tactical series: Joy and Bear, Callum and Sloane, Derek Bollinger, Theo and Eva, as well as several characters from the original series.
HERO’S TOUCH is a story of power and control, obsession and madness, betrayal and vengeance, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is intriguing, suspenseful and edgy; the romance is impassioned; the characters are desperate, determined and atypical.
Lincoln isn't like most people. He easily gets wrapped up in his own head and constantly works to find patterns in the chaos that is life. Brilliant, he has built and sold a couple of companies by his early thirties and routinely consults as a cyber security specialist for a slew of federal agencies. While his mind works a bit differently from most people, the people who love him accept his awkwardness and neurodivergence. It's the rest of the world with which he struggles to make connections.
Morgan has a bit of a similar background. Unable to forget anything due to her eidetic memory, she too comes across as awkward or strange to most people. She didn't have family or friends to help ground her, however. She has been intensely lonely and often rejected throughout her life.
Having found each other on a message board and communicating for two years, Lincoln and Morgan know each other only by their online personas, but they know each other at such a deep level that they understand how the other thinks and have even developed their own encrypted language.
Taken for her unique abilities, Morgan reaches out to Lincoln out of desperation, moving their relationship from cyberspace to the real world. While they know each other intimately from years of communication, they each surprise the other as well. Morgan helps Lincoln to better articulate his emotions - something he's always struggled with - and to feel a rare quiet in his mind when he's with her. Lincoln helps Morgan to realize that her uniqueness isn't a detriment but something to be loved. He also provides her with a support system of friends that she has always been missing.
I loved seeing neurodiverse main characters represented in this story. Both have struggled in a world that doesn't understand how they perceive their environment. Both have adjusted their behavior to try to better fit into 'normal' society. With each other, they can be their authentic selves without the risk of alienating each other. It's a beautiful story of strength and acceptance, filled with lots of action as well as some twists and turns. The plot moves quickly and the main characters are represented with respect for their unusual gifts.
Five stars.
This is an honest, voluntary review of an ARC of the story.
Lincoln Bollinger has been a periphery character in the whole Linear Tactical series. Brilliant man, who functions differently than the normal person. Socially awkward at best, and his cousins Derek and Bear have been his best friends and champions his whole life for that reason. He craves order and logic, items placed in a certain manner, vehicle parked specifically to avoid door dings if you will.
Morgan has her own social awkwardness, but it's not something Lincoln is initially privy to. The two met on a chat forum two years ago under different handles. She was Mercury to his Binary. Every night at precisely 9pm they would chat. His lines were always logical and hers would be of poetry often Emily Dickenson. They had formed almost a relationship, but only giving so much of themselves.
The night that Morgan misses their chat is devastating to both of them. Morgan for the horror she's forced to endure because of her perfect mind, Lincoln because he thought he lost his friend for another reason. Savy Mercury manages to get a coded SOS to Binary, who shows that he's a Bollinger through and through quickly assembling a team to rescue her. However that's just the beginning.
There's suspense and intrigue as these two socially awkward individuals get to know each other in person. As they figure out that they do work together IRL all the while being hunted by the individual that kidnapped Morgan.
I really loved this story and had been looking forward to it. I was curious as to how Ms. Crouch would weave this story. Which if you follow her on socials this was probably the quickest book she wrote but it was a winner! Just as I expected to be, as she rarely disappoints.
Hero’s Touch by Janie Crouch Linear Tactical: Oak Creek #6
~ Impeccable, immersive, impactful story with imperfect people that were perfect for one another ~ Couldn’t put this book down ~ Loved it ~
What I liked: * Lincoln “Binary” Bollinger: brilliant, wealthy, computer savvy, impressive mind, misses social cues, loving family, trained to be tactically aware and physically fit, finds peace when with Morgan * Morgan “Mercury” Reece: Librarian, eidetic memory, in foster care from age eight, one person in the past supported her, bright, survivor, has trouble with social situations, finds peace with Lincoln * The epigraphs beginning each chapter that were portions of the weekly chats between Lincoln and Morgan * The way the two spent time together every week and as a result grew to know and trust one another before they even met * The close ties and unquestionable support the team have and how they are there for one another no matter what * Catching up with some of the characters from the past * The plot, pacing, setting, and writing that kept me turning pages to find out what would happen * That I grew to care for Lincoln and Morgan and wanted everything to work out for them * Knowing that this is not the last book in this series
What I didn’t like: * Randall: evil, mercenary, torturer, egotistical, kidnapper, despicable – really wanted karma or the team to visit vengeance on him * Thinking about how difficult and lonely Morgan’s childhood must have been * Thinking about what it must be like to be “different” and find a place that you can be comfortable, fit in and have a safe place to land
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more by this author? Definitely
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Lincoln doesn’t do emotions, is socially awkward, a genius and most comfortable behind his computer and he has been “talking” online with a woman, Mercury, for two years who only knows him as Binary. Every night at 9pm they have their chats until one night she doesn’t log in, and then the next and the next. Lincoln is ready to delete all their conversations and then notices their secret code in a poem that was just sent. Mercury aka Morgan is in trouble, bad trouble and needs help, when she finally has a chance to message Binary, she’s not sure if he will see it and/or be able to rescue her. Little does she know who he really is, he is not only a computer genius but has grown up around the Linear men, trained with the best of them and can hold his own in the field. Morgan has been through a lot and Lincoln tends to her, keeps her safe and has her back no matter what. As the two navigate their new relationship that is not just online, both have found that one person that can quiet their minds and have them find peace…too bad someone is still out there who wants Morgan and will stop at nothing to get her back. HOLY SMOKES!!!!!!! WOW WOW WOW!!! This is my favourite book from this series and Lincoln with all his quirks stole my heart, right along with Morgan. Their story was beautifully written and I loved the beginning of each chapter, a view into the hundreds of messages the two wrote each other everyday…stay safe, stranger….stay strange, safety…sigh and swoon. Suspense, steam, surprises, quirks and AMAZING CHARACTERS. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Ugh. I had high hopes for this book, but in the end it was just… alright.
I did like Lincoln’s quirky personality. He’s incredibly smart—almost too smart—and very different from most people. Because he struggles to read social cues, he tends to live like a lone wolf. Morgan, on the other hand, is also intelligent in her own way. She has an eidetic memory, which means she basically never forgets anything.
The two of them have been online friends for years without ever seeing each other or knowing each other’s real identities. One day Morgan suddenly misses their usual routine, which prompts Lincoln to start looking for her.
The main conflict is that Morgan gets into trouble because of her ability to remember everything. But the situation she ends up in feels very Mission Impossible–like—a bit too far-fetched for me. What really stretched my suspension of disbelief is Lincoln. He’s portrayed as someone who lives behind a monitor and barely steps away from his screens, yet suddenly he’s capable of doing physical, special-forces-level action scenes. When exactly did he have time to learn all that? I could buy basic survival skills, sure—but this goes way beyond that. It started to feel more James Bond than believable.
It’s also frustrating watching two incredibly smart characters fall for some of the dumbest mistakes possible in the modern world. For example, they actually go back to Morgan’s apartment and her workplace. Lincoln has multiple brothers and family members in the military—why not use those resources instead?
Overall, the premise was interesting and the characters had potential, but the plot leaned too heavily into unrealistic action for my taste.
I've been waiting for this Hero's story since this series began, and it certainly didn't disappoint! As a genius who excels in everything except any type of socialization, this Hero has finally found possibly the most perfect Heroine. However, things drastically change when she stops responding online, and unfortunately, only become more dangerous with each passing day. It's a definite must read book and series!
I have to say that this Hero has always been one of my favorite since he was first introduced. Everyone has their own quirks, some more intense than others, and this character has always been special to me. I love how his friends and family have always done everything possible to include him, as well as create a secret code phrase to help him avoid possible disasters that he wasn't able to detect. His story was certainly one of my favorites!
If you haven't already, I would highly suggest that you start this series from the beginning. I know that this book is not linked to the series page, but the books are best read in the order that they were released. The stories are absolutely fantastic, hilarious, intense, complex, suspenseful, and intriguing with many unexpected twists. You definitely won't be disappointed! I would also highly recommend reading the original Linear Tactical series, which I believe would be best to read prior to beginning this series. Trust me, those are stories that you definitely won't want to miss!
I hope that there will be many more stories in this series in the near future! I can't wait!
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
A tumultuous thrill ride! Crouch is thrilling her Linear Tactical fans time and again as we get a glimpse of all of our old favorites as their kids settle into life with their forever loves one at a time in the Linear Tactical: Oak Creek spin-off. Next up is Lincoln Bollinger. Baby and Quinn's son does not disappoint one bit! He's amazingly smart and successful but so socially awkward ... but that technical devotion is what led him to his secret, coded chats with an internet friend for the last couple of years. When he receives a cry for help, he will stop at nothing to get to her and make sure she's safe.
Morgan has her own idiosyncrasies that often leave her on the outside looking in throughout her life, but the relationship she has developed with Linc means a lot to her. When danger comes knocking, she knows he's her only chance of getting away from the bad guys.
Overall the book is fraught with tension and danger as they race against time to stop a plan of destruction. The characters are well developed and the plot is spot on. I loved the action, but also the gentle passion as they eased into knowing each other in person after so much time without faces or names. They make a really great couple, and the addition of his friends and family as a support system is really fun. I loved every minute of their story and highly recommend the entire series as well as the original Linear Tactical series to anyone who loves lots of danger and mystery wrapped up into a romance filled with passion and camaraderie.
Brilliant, Unputdownable, and Deeply Resonant Wow. This is one of those books where you finish and immediately think, there is no way my review can fully capture how good that was. If you’ve ever felt different or out of step with the world, this story hits deep. Whether that was the author’s intention or not, it absolutely makes you feel seen. Lincoln and Morgan are extraordinary in very different ways. He’s a computer genius who understands systems and patterns far better than people—until her. Morgan remembers everything, which sounds like a gift… until it turns dangerous. Their connection begins through coded messages and remote communication over two years, building something rare and intense—then she vanishes. When Lincoln discovers a hidden SOS meant only for him, he doesn’t hesitate. But finding her is only the beginning. What follows is a high-stakes race involving ruthless enemies, hidden agendas, and nowhere truly safe to hide. The suspense is relentless, the emotional connection is powerful, and the romance feels uniquely matched—two unconventional minds who finally find someone who understands how they think and feel. Watching them work together is just incredible. I don’t hand out strong recommendations lightly, but this one earns it. If you enjoy romance with real tension, smart characters, danger, and heart, this is a must-read. Every time I think this author has written her best book yet, she somehow proves me wrong with the next one. I can’t wait to see what she writes next.
I LOVE it really it was great see Lincoln from his point of view and to get a better understanding of what he lived and how the others helped or not. It was quite moving to see how Baby Bollinger took care of his son and how comprehensive he was.
Now Lincoln finding Mercury is even better they are great together and deserve each other. To see their echanges and how they understand the other ,how they complete each other that was really great.
Morgan has a perfect memory but that means she has difficulties with social contacts...especially after being in the system .The only time she feel at ease are when she is Mercury online in her exchange with Binary....she doesn't know him outside their secret chat and their daily 9pm session but when all hope is lost, when her life is in danger is to Binary she choose to reach....
I loved how Lincoln was patient and tentative with Mercury how he respected her privacy but also how fierce he could be to protect her .The fact Theo, Derek &co were there no question asked was also great the trust they have in each other is precious
It was not always easy to read as the viliain is a very depraved one, to see a person as an utility tool...arf but the investigation was perfect, the way Binary and Mercury open to each other and work together was moving....
this is one of the best intalment in this series in my eyes. I really recommend it can be read as a stand alone but the whole series is worth reading and rereading
Janie has written her best book to date. Period. At first, I thought it was because Lincoln was the first neurodivergent character I have ever read that I connected with. He wasn't a means to an end to drive a story ..to prop up a plot. He was beautifully created. His uniqueness humanized. His differences accepted. That the parts of him that worked differently...those were perfect exactly the way they were. Like Lincoln my son, is highly functioning with unique traits that make him... him. He is an amazing person, and as he grew up we had to find ways to understand him, to run interference, to have our hearts break when others didn't see him the way we did. To fight when people wanted to "fix" him. To be able to let go so he can be who is supposed to be. And as awesome as it was to have my favorite author create a character like Lincoln, it really is her ability to to tell a story that keeps me reading her books. Every word, every phrase, each crafted in such a way that each story unfolds in your mind's eye and you make connections to fictional characters that will encourage you to re read their stories. She has sustained multiple interconnected series and each book adds more to the complexity of the worlds she has created. Lincoln was brilliant. It made my heart happy. And thank you for treating the character and the neurodivergent community with respect. The character wasn't any different from any other character you have written. He was just Lincoln. Just like Bear, Theo, Finn, Baby and countless others were just uniquely them.
There are some stories and series that capture your heart and you look forward to more of those stories and characters. This is the one I was waiting for, Lincoln Bollinger who has always been a bit eccentric, feeling more comfortable with his computers. He has a loving and extended family, but has found a fascination in his communication, over the past two years, with someone named Mercury. When her messages to him suddenly stop, how does he find her? Suddenly the messages give him a clue that she is in trouble. Mercury, aka Morgan has been kidnapped for her eidetic memory. She remembers everything and is able to repeat it. She is fed non-stop data and punished if she doesn’t work fast enough. Using her favorite poetry, she tries to get a message to him, but will he understand or will she die in this warehouse when she is no longer useful? Even rescuing her will not end the threat to her life, as not only is her captor looking for her, but she is wanted by the federal government. When she is threatened again, Linc will turn to his Linear Tactical family, who has always had his back and to form a plan to rescue her. In the brief time she was with him, he knows that he loves her and he is able to let go of the constant equations running through his brain. Will he find her, again, before it is too late? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Lincoln is a genius and likes to be by himself with his computer and his projects. He has been communicating with someone online for a few years who is just as smart as he is and they have remained anonymous. They log on the same time every week. Morgan knows she is considered different but she really tries to act normal. She remembers everything and usually something she says seems to isolate her from others and she just can't fit in. Then she meets this stranger on line by pointing out an error in one of his programs. They start communicating every week but remain strangers. Lincoln gets worried when he doesn't hear from her on their normal day. Morgan finally gets a message to him letting him know she is in big trouble and needs help. Lincoln will do anything to help his friend and gets the team together to rescue her. The excitement and anticipation continues from here, especially when they meet. I have been waiting for Lincoln's story since the beginning of this series and it is beyond my expectation. He finally met his match and I loved it for him because he seemed so lonely. His mannerism is so unique they become endearing. This had suspense, danger and romance which are all the things you want in a story. Janie is one of my favorite authors and I will continue to read these action packed adventures. I received an issue of this book which I voluntarily read and evaluated; all opinions expressed are my own.
This book blew me away. Lincoln Bollinger is unlike any hero I’ve read before. He’s a genius who can outthink governments and outmaneuver criminals, but when it comes to emotions? He’s completely out of his depth. Watching him try to understand his feelings for Morgan (Mercury) was just as compelling as the action scenes. He may calculate every variable in a crisis, but love is the one thing he can’t solve with an algorithm - and that’s what makes his journey so powerful.
Morgan is just as brilliant in her own way. Her strength, especially after everything she endures, is incredible. The fact that she and Lincoln connect through poetry, code, and late-night messages made their relationship feel deep and real. When she sends that hidden SOS through Emily Dickinson, it gave me chills. From that moment on, I couldn’t put the book down.
The suspense is intense. The rescue, the twists - it all had me on edge. But what really stayed with me seeing Lincoln vulnerable, protective, and willing to burn the world down for the woman who truly sees him was unforgettable.
This book has action, heart, and some truly beautiful moments. It’s about finding the one person who understands you - even when the rest of the world doesn’t. Janie Crouch did an amazing job wrapping up Lincoln’s story in a way that felt satisfying, emotional, and completely earned.
If you love suspense, smart characters, and a romance that feels both intense and tender, Hero’s Touch is a must-read.
I have read all of the books in the LT/Oak Creek series and I can honestly say that Hero's Touch is the best of the bunch! Lincoln Bollinger has been one of my favorite characters. He's a literal genius and has made a fortune for himself with the companies that he has created over his 30 years. What eludes him is personal relationships. His family and friends have always been there to support him but with outsiders, he struggles socially. The last two years he has been corresponding with someone that he met online. Mercury aka Morgan is a brilliant librarian in Montana. She has a rare gift that others are not comfortable with. The highlight of her last two years is chatting online with Binary aka Lincoln. She is considering suggesting that they meet in person but she has an upcoming speech to be given and decides to wait until after the event. Things don't go as Morgan has planned so when she's taken, Morgan has assumed that her life is essentially over. In a hope for rescue, she sends a message to Binary. Mercury knows that this is a longshot, but it is the only hope that she has. Lincoln won't let anything stop him from getting to her. And that is only the beginning of their story! Hero's Touch has it all. Action, twists, emotions, laughter and heat! It was told from dual POV and stands alone in the series but I highly recommend reading them all.
LOVE LOVE LOVE! I was anticipating Lincoln's book for so long, as I knew I would adore him even more than I already did. I was not disappointed at all- well, other than I would not have complained if there were 100 more pages of Lincoln and Morgan's story! This one really grabbed my heart. I have always loved the way Lincoln was integrated into the fold and loved by his family and friends in such an amazing way that molded around his differences instead of in spite of his differences. Bear and Derek were amazing cousins as I could already see, but it was so much more heartwarming in this book since it centered around Lincoln. I could literally gush forever about it and am currently reliving so many moments that were emotionally amazing. Morgan was the perfect woman for Lincoln and their love was written in the stars as far as I am concerned. Lincoln really dusted off his Linear Tactical training and Bollinger genes for this one as the danger mounted against the love of his life, and suspense had me on the edge of the seat. And the fairy tale ending- I definitely think this will be one I will immediately listen to once the audio is out and probably repeatedly listen to. *You make my brain go quiet*...sigh...especially if you personally understand how amazing it is one someone has that power....
Finding A Life Partner That Really Sees You, Understands You, And Ultimately LOVES You….Priceless!
I am beyond happy that Ms. Crouch chose to write Lincoln’s story. Readers that have read the previous Linear Tactical stories got to know Lincoln for his superior technical computer skills, blunt honesty, and difficulty maneuvering acceptable social norms. I’ve always held a special place in my heart for him and was hoping that he would find his deserving HEA. Lo and behold, it’s finally become a reality. This is a thoughtful, heartwarming, heart wrenching and well developed story of a relationship that had its conception in a daily, two year nightly computer chat. They were known only as Binary and Mercury and communicating in code and poetry, as only two like minded individuals are capable of understanding and appreciating. An abduction sets the stage for Binary and Mercury to evolve into Lincoln and Morgan. The storyline was well scripted and gives readers a compassionate understanding and insight into the thoughts, feelings, gifts and curses of having extraordinary skills and talents. The angsty moments at the climax of the story were a bit confusing and in my opinion not realistic but I still felt it warranted five stars for the overall story and the heartwarming epilogue. Fans of this series should definitely get this book. So worth it!
What I really loved about this book is that it shows that there actually can be someone who is the perfect partner for you. Throughout this series, we have been shown that Lincoln Bollinger is someone who is a bit more on the socially challenged side. He is more comfortable away from people, even though his family does not let him isolate himself out of family get togethers, and is more at ease with his computers. It was during the time he was navigating the dark web that he encounters Mercury/Morgan. He was instantly fascinated and that was the beginning of two years of communication precisely at 9pm every night like clockwork. That 9pm time slot was something that Lincoln anticipated and would drop whatever he was doing just to make sure to log in on time. Then one day she was just gone.
When we get Morgan’s POV, my anxiety shot through the roof. I was heartbroken with what she endured. Even though she did not think she was going to make it, her brilliant mind was able to send an encoded message that she knew her Binary/Lincoln would be able to figure out.
As anxiety-ridden this story was to read, I absolutely loved it. Morgan was an amazing FMC, though I’m not surprised, as this author consistently writes such fantastic, beautifully developed female characters. Just as moving was the way Lincoln’s family and friends rallied around him, stopping at nothing to help and support him.
Overall, Hero’s Touch has to be my favorite of the series. The way these two were able to find each other and find their perfect happily ever after.
If you’ve been following Lincoln Bollinger’s journey from the start, this latest installment is the one we’ve all been waiting for. Our favorite socially awkward genius finally meets his match, and the results are both heart-pounding and deeply moving.
For two years, we’ve watched Lincoln build a digital connection with Morgan (Mercury) the only person who truly speaks his "language." When their online friendship is shattered by a desperate cry for help, the stakes couldn't be higher. Seeing the brilliant but sheltered Lincoln thrust into a high-stakes rescue mission to save a woman he’s never met in person is a masterclass in character growth.
Seeing the whole crew rally behind Lincoln is a beautiful reminder that family isn't just about blood; it's about the people who show up when things get dangerous. At the same time we see transition from keyboard to real-life peril handled with so much heart. Morgan is the perfect foil for Lincoln—just as brilliant, just as quirky, and just as brave. This is truly a story about finding that one person who finally "gets you" without an explanation.
To sum it up in one sentence this is a high-octane rescue mission wrapped in a warm blanket of hope and love. I couldn’t put it down!
Having been a fan of the Linear Tactical and Oak Creek series’, I couldn’t wait for this book to drop on to my Kindle. With some trepidation I started to read….. initially I struggled a little bit with some of the computer terminology, the logic and mind of Lincoln Bollinger but found as the story progressed it became easier to digest. As for Morgan (also known as Mercury) we learn they have been communicating for about 2 years, she’s a brilliant librarian with an extraordinary mind and who also struggles in communicating with people. Somehow, they’ve managed to connect and communicate but when Morgan gives a speech at an event someone kidnaps her and forces her to work for him. When she somehow manages to send an SOS to Lincoln the race is on to not only find and rescue her but then keep her out of the clutches of the enemy, whilst dealing with the repercussions of her brutal treatment. This is a complex story because if you’ve not read any of this series you’ll not appreciate the nuances and family that are the Linear Tactical group. There are twists and turns along the way, also doubt, action, love, suspense, laughter, socially awkward conversations, brutal honesty and a complete rollercoaster ride for your emotions. I highly recommend this book and series and hope you enjoy it as much as I’ve done.
Lincoln’s book is one I’ve been waiting for ever since his character was introduced. Ms. Crouch has created a very unique character. With the way his brain functions along with his quirkiness it makes him all the more endearing. He met his perfect match with Mercury before he could even describe it as such. She brings her own brand of quirk brought on by how her brain functions and how she was raised. They meet online and begin a two-year friendship which is where they are both most comfortable. When they are finally together under desperate circumstances, you meld two very intelligent characters trying to find their way beyond the keyboard all while trying to save Morgan’s life. Ms. Crouch shows her brilliance with the creation of these two characters who lack social norms but are remarkable in other ways. I love how we see another side of Lincoln and that he uses the training he’s been taught by the “originals”. I also love how his cousins support him and come to his aid, no questions asked. Both Lincoln and Morgan get their much-deserved HEA in dramatic fashion. The book is definitely worth the wait.
Hero’s Touch Linear Tactical: Oak Creek Janie Crouch Lincoln Bollinger, the smartest introvert nerd in any room and quite probably the country. The ultimate careful, risk adverse, brilliant man anyone would be lucky to know. Morgan Reece, a poetic genius with a perfect memory just like a database, nothing is forgotten ever. A mind that can be forced to he used for evil without her consent. For me Lincoln’s book has been so highly anticipated and it didn’t disappoint!! This book just felt right. In all of the danger and turmoil it just felt like peace. Lincoln deserved this story. Ms Crouch you are a masterful writer. Deep unique characters who stand firm guarding the good from the evil have been in every single one of the books in this series. This series is very twisty with perfect tension and suspense. This book is definitely part of an interconnected series but can be read as a standalone novel with hea. I just adore Lincoln in all his awkward awesomeness. Brilliant characters both new and old (former main characters as super supporting characters). This is one for the Janie crouch fans. I received an arc of this book. 5 binary stars.
