★ Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Amazon & Audible multi-million bestselling author RR Haywood ★ ★ Over 35 Kindle Bestsellers • One of the most downloaded authors in the UK ★A detective on holiday. A murder he’s not supposed to solve. Welcome to Murder Crime On Gallymay. A brilliantly funny, character-driven crime mystery with a twist of black humour and just enough grit to bite.
If you like murder mysteries that balance sharp wit, a compelling plot, and oddly loveable characters, then this one’s for you. Meet Jim Greene. An ordinary detective constable trying 'not' to solve a murder.
The remote and isolated Cornish island of Gallymay was meant to be the perfect place for a break. But things don’t quite go to plan when Jim finds himself reluctantly thrust into a murder investigation, assisted by a ragtag group of well-meaning locals, in a chaotic, heartfelt, and often laugh-out-loud “almost” cosy mystery.
Told through police notebooks, witness statements, interview transcripts and body-worn video logs, Murder Crime on Gallymay blends pitch-perfect policing, with laugh-out-loud moments, heartwarming friendships, and a mystery that keeps you guessing until the final page.

I was given an ARC of this book in return for an honest review
If you’re a fan of RR Haywood you’ll by now know he’s a master at creating real life characters. People you feel you’ve met, seen, worked with etc.
You will not be disappointed here. The story is thrilling but grounded in reality. It’s not over dramatic but instead has real believable jeopardy, confusion and consequences.
I’ve read many crime books in my time and can usually take a pretty good guess at the twist or ending. At 75% read I still had no idea.
I love Jim, Aiden and little Ella. But even the antagonist are thoroughly enjoyable to read.
Really highly recommend to fans of Mr Haywood or those crime/thriller/ character lovers when reading
From the very start, you feel as if you're right there with Jim. You will connect with every character. The book keeps you interested, while at times, you will find yourself laughing out loud. Then again, R R Haywood has yet to write anything but the best books.
2.5 stars I read almost every book that R.R. Haywood’s writes. But I think I will start sticking with just the science fiction ones. I am not the biggest fan of crime mystery/dramas, I guess. This is a two-and-a-half-star book but since it’s RR Haywood, I will round it up to three (also because I can’t give half stars). This has some of Haywood’s typical humor but not enough. It gets a little drawn out and boring at times. The list of characters in the book started to grow a lot in the end, making things more confusing than they should have been. I’m hoping Haywood will start writing the sequels to other projects he has started, like Delio, Phase One and A Town Called Discovery.
Audiobook narrator Gethin Anthony rating: 3 stars This is the third book I have listened to by Renly Baratheon and easily the worst. While he’s still a good narrator (speaks clearly, shows emotion, etc.), he has been much better in past books. I hope to hear more from him, and I hope to hear better.
From the very first page, Murder Crime on Gallymay had me gripped. The writing is atmospheric, tense, and full of vivid detail. I could feel the cold morning air, see the tyre tracks in the mud, and feel the weight of a murder surrounded by unspoken truths.
Jim Greene is a brilliant lead character who is smart, grounded, and quietly compelling. He brings just the right balance of insight and emotion, and I found myself immediately rooting for him. The investigation feels authentic and layered, with powerful moments that build a real sense of unease. The suspense builds steadily, with every scene revealing just enough to keep you second-guessing everyone involved.
This book is everything I love in a British crime thriller with a gripping plot, strong characters, and a mystery that unfolds with both realism and suspense. I’m so glad I had the chance to be part of the early readers group, and I really hope this is just the start of a new series. I’ll be first in line for the next Jim Greene mystery.
It also gives great insight into how real policing works, from securing crime scenes to processing evidence and managing the emotional weight of the job. It’s informative without ever slowing the pace, adding another layer of depth to an already brilliant story.
Great story, great characters and a great read! I’m a big big fan of Haywood, the undead series in particular and of found family type tropes in general. In my view this is his best outside of The Undead at combining the great story and character work he so excels at. 9/10 (only missing one star because some of the aforementioned long series is simply perfection and I have to reserve something in honour of that!)
As always R.R. Haywood has delivered. I haven't come across a single one of his books that hasn't made me laugh, cry, get frustrated and any other emotions that follow.
The characters were all fab, you feel like you're part of the gang, part of the jokes made, you feel like you're there with them.
The storyline... as R.R.Haywood says "you can't even make it up" haha
Can't wait for more from the Boss. Pure perfection 👌🏻
Mr Haywood never disappoints! A step away from all his other fabulous series, this time into a crime drama, but still full of his, by now trademark, disparate group of technicolour characters that you will instantly warm to. Full of humour and intrigue, I heartily recommend.
I've read everything he's written and many different crime books. This was excellent. The actual procedures woven into the fictional story made it more believable than most and read all in one sitting. Definitely one for those who love crime fiction or RR Haywood in general.
I didn't know what to expect when I read the prologue, but what a fabulous book,it has everything.Police procedure ,island life, murder,American intrigue, with a great British hobby with morals. I loved it,best book of the year.It made me laugh,it had so many twists and turns, and it was so so good.A just read.
Not what you would normally expect from RR Haywood, but certainly with the same humour. A brilliant tale of an off duty policeman pulled into situations he is trying very hard to avoid. Very well written, gives an insight into how the police work and, in my opinion, would be bloody great on the TV
RRH's stories are addictive because us readers vicariously feel part of the group dynamics of his Task Forces, and this is no exception. I can't wait for the next episodes. (But hurry up with the Undead series, pleeeease!)
Absolutely best police novel that I have ever read! The characters were simply the best, quirks and all. Cannot say enough about this novel and truly hope it becomes the first in a long line of books.
Please, please, please let their be more to come in this series!! As a nurse married to a police officer, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great characters and a great plot.
Another great one from RR. As always. The only time I’m ever disappointed with RR’s novels is when I finish them too quickly because I can’t stop turning the pages! Thank you, RR
This author never disappoints, but a crime drama is a new genre from him. Makes sense as he was a cop for years, and I really enjoyed his insight on real police procedures.
Great characters, great story, funny and engaging. Loved it.
I loved this book. His characters are real people. They feel real. They live and breath. They have insights and doubts. They have strengths and weaknesses. Enjoyable, and the underdog rises to the challenge. Bless his heart!
I really enjoyed this book and hope there will be a follow up! I love all of Richard Haywood's books, with The Undead series still being my favourite, but this was a refreshing change from all the horror and sci fi. Loved it!
This was just great, lots of chuckles along the way and blimey, it got me literally on the edge of my seat for some bits. So so good. I'm now off to see if there are any more!
As usual, Rich writes an amazing tale. I’ve been a fan of the undead for years, but this is completely different. Ann exciting story with enough twists and turns to keep you going right till the end.
Not his best work but an easy read. One laugh out loud moment so not as hilarious as some are saying. Look forward to the next instalment of the undead still.
As with ALL RR Haywood books, I loved Murder Crime. Haywood does such a great job fleshing out characters! After reading his books, you really know and love (or hate) his characters!
