Rate this book
One list. One conspiracy. Zero chance of walking away clean.

May 2024: When an Iranian helicopter carrying the president crashes near the Azerbaijan border, the official story blames pilot error. But someone’s lying—and ex-CIA operative Michael Wolfe is about to find out why.

Pulled back into the shadows by the suspicious death of a former colleague, Wolfe uncovers a hidden list locked in a bank vault. A list of names that includes his... and his wife’s.

Nadia Picard, former Mossad agent and now mother to their young son, joins Michael as they unravel a conspiracy eliminating the world's most lethal operatives—MI6, Mossad, CIA.

Now, someone is hunting the hunters.

From the mountains of the Middle East to the quiet corners of their domestic life, danger is closing in fast. And this time, staying off the grid won’t be enough.

A Cloak of Deceit is a high-stakes international thriller packed with betrayal, buried secrets, and two deadly operatives fighting to stay one step ahead of the kill order.

J.C. Fields is one of my favorite authors and I’ve been waiting a while for his latest novel, ‘A Cloak of Deceit’; I was not disappointed! It’s one of his best to date. Michael Wolfe, retired special operator for the US government and his wife Nadia are drawn into another case which brings deadly threats to his family on a personal level, and to the nation and its president. I found myself constantly doing mental doubletakes while reading this one as it sails very closely to the winds that blow in today’s politics and events in the States, in my opinion, and was even more enjoyable because of that.

Fields’ tight writing, believable characters, and the depth and complexity of the plot work seamlessly together to deliver a fast-paced thriller that will keep you awake into the early hours of the morning. He crafts a superb tale that places Wolfe, Nadia, their young son Ben, and last but not least, the latest addition to their family, Nova, in constant peril from sources at times too near to home. Now he’s got me hooked waiting on the next book in the series!!!

This one will delight fans of Mark Greaney and Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne novels, and is very highly recommended.

new to JC Fields

I’ve loved each of these! I was new to JC Fields but am now a fan and avid reader. I didn’t see a book 5 as the ending eluded to but I certainly hope there is more. It makes one think of what really goes on in the world and the silent heros going about their work as we sleep unaware of the dangers they face. I love the characters and the humanization of them with their progression towards a “normal” life that most likely will never come. Their training will always make them see dangers the rest of us would miss. Can’t wait to read more of the journey. Great writing!

More, please?!

Excellent, as always! I love Michael, Nadia (of course Ben and Nova) and Ian. Once I start reading a new episode, I can’t stop. So please write another book in the series, soon?

Great read

If you’re a fan of thrillers with lots of plot twists and likable characters, you’ll definitely enjoy this installment of the Michael Wolfe saga. Occasionally the plots seem a little far fetched, but maybe only a little.

J C Fields

His first three books are fantastic. They are very hard to put down because once you hook up, you just have to to know what happened and he does a very good job with his storyline looking for more of your work.

explosive

Great read. A convoluted story of deception, power and politics! Wolfe and Co. at their best chasing leads, bad guys and the truth!

This is my 4th Michael Wolfe book, and it is the best yet. I love the addition of Nova, and I can't wait until book #5.
