After a spell of amnesia, Angeline, Chloe, and Evelyn meet on a Chicago subway train and learn that they’re long-lost sisters with magical powers. But this revelation comes with a catch: The empress of nightmares wants to tear apart their minds to uncover a secret spell buried in their subconscious. To make matters worse, the hero destined to defeat the empress is dead. Now instead of starting college, they’re whisked away to a world bursting with magic. Romantic Angeline is singing siren songs, bookish Evelyn is reading minds, and feisty Chloe is fighting foes. The sisters must now find a way to defend their minds and their world from invasion. On a journey full of monsters, myths, and a dreamy sorcerer or two, these sisters will learn that magic isn’t just about spells, it’s about the dreams you fight for.
I really really wanted to love this but it just didn’t do it for me. I had a hard time with the pacing, there were sections that felt way too rushed to flow. I knew this was YA which I don’t mind at all but the characters felt way too juvenile and I really struggled with it.
The narration was great this just wasn’t for me unfortunately. Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted ALC.
Thank you The Nerd Fam and Olivia Royal for sending me the ALC of this book.
This story follows 3 sisters who have lost their memory and learn they are witches.
My main issue with this book was I really had no idea what was happening. We follow the POVs of the 3 sisters and they each have a love interest!! I couldn’t keep track of who was who. They are all the same age pretty much and sometimes the POVs would switch multiple times in the same chapter. I couldn’t tell you the difference between the 3 of them.
There is sooooo much info in this book I couldn’t keep up. There were different worlds, a shit ton of characters, a whole magic system to learn and why the villain was after them. Too much info for the first book in a series.
A story of three witches, all who lost their memories (this I like). However, the entire plot felt extremely rushed and not fully fleshed out. I had the pleasure of listening to the audio, and I had a hard time staying engaged in the story. The narration seemed off pace, and the acting of the chacters was hard to follow.
Although this is a YA fantasy, this read extremely young YA and unfortunately failed to capture my attention.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this ARC of The Diviner Sisters. by Olivia Royal. This was a different take on the Magic school story, three young witches are hidden in our world wiped of all the memories of the magical dimension they came from, and when returned having to learn all about it and the other dimensions they can travel to. I loved the mix of our world myths mixed with the fantasy elements Olivia has created, combined this makes a really vivid and complex world and as she writes more I look forward to discovering more of the world. I loved the character development of the 3 sister and can not wait to see where that goes as their stories continue.
As a person of mixed heritage the sister having parents from different dimension and the implications that had was particularly appealing to me.
As the story develops, we are given a different perspective on the main antagonist and their motivations and I am interested to see where this is going to lead.
I want to start by saying this author has a ton of great ideas, and a really cool concept. This book just didn't feel fully fleshed out yet. This book is meant to be YA, but for me, it read more as a childrens novel. It was simply not the book for me, but I truly appreciate what it was aiming to do. The world building felt a little undefined, which I understand is going to come with characters that have amnesia, but it was to the point that it felt like additions to the structure of the world were being added on the fly, making it both confusing to me as the reader, and a little too convenient for the characters. The pacing was inconsistent, and again, all a bit convenient. It made it difficult for me to find the trials and the relationships to be believable. A lot of random mythologies are thrown in. It just didn't let me find my footing. Again, I think this concept has a ton of potential, and think the author has a lot of avenues open to make the second book a knock out. This book simply didn't find the right reader this time.

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for this gifted audiobook!
I tried so hard to enjoy this, but it just wasn't fantastic. This audiobook is a bit rough, it definitely needed different/more experienced narrators. The pacing and the dialogue were just really hard to stay engaged with. I almost DNF'd several times and I maybe should have.
This writing style was very "I'm telling you, not showing you". And the info dumping is just a lot, and it felt really rushed in places. Especially the beginning and end. It was hard to connect with anyone, even if the audio had been better or if I had eyeball read this, I don't think it was fully "there". The beginning being so very rushed in plot, I think just set the tone for the whole book. It maybe would have benefited from being longer and more detailed overall.
It's always sad to leave a not stellar review, but unfortunately this just needed a bit "more".
This book follows three sisters who don't remember who they are. They meet while running from people trying to capture them on the Chicago subway. After they escape, they find out they're actually sisters and have a much bigger purpose waiting for them.
Angeline is a siren, Evelyn can read minds, and Chloe is a skilled fighter. They soon learn the truth about their parents, a powerful empress, and a world full of magic. There are also some handsome lightning-bird shifters, who are determined to fight to see who's worthy of a magical sword.
The story felt a bit rushed, and I wish the magic had been explained more, but the plot was good! I liked the sister bond and the action.
🎧 Audiobook thoughts: It's narrated by Olivia and Roland Royal. Their voices fit the story well, and I liked the sound effects. The pacing was a little fast and the volume went up and down throughout the story.
Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the opportunity to read The Diviner Sisters. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete the book. While I appreciate the chance to experience this story, the audiobook format made it difficult to stay engaged. The narration quality varied quite a bit some sections were too loud, others too quiet or mumbled which made it challenging to follow without a physical or eBook copy to reference. Additionally, the writing style and tone felt geared toward a younger audience, more in line with middlegrade fiction than I expected. For that reason, and due to the audio issues, I’ve decided not to finish the book. I’m still grateful for the opportunity to review it and wish the author success with future projects.
This follows three sisters that have lost their memory. It opens up to them meeting on a subway train in Chicago and finding themselves about to get abducted because some person name Gehenna wants to “have a little chat” We quickly learn the girls have cast a spell to forget their memories to keep some information safe and overtime their memories come back. This book is riddled with a lot of fantasy creatures both previously existed and new. Early on in the book they were nicely implemented but further on it was overwhelming how many creatures, species, and races that exist in this book. I was super hopeful about this one, but I ended up not particularly enjoying it. I found myself overwhelmed with the amount of info dumping we got and then after learning all this information and we would finally get to the action. The action was over in what felt like before I could even blink. It also didn’t mesh well with me because I was hoping for more magic and there were times it felt too sciency. I can’t quite explain why—because my brain is still comprehending but the book just wasn’t a good fit for me.
I understand that this is a YA book but I spent a good portion of this book struggling to figure out how old the FMCs are. I liked the magic system in this book and that the FMCs had amnesia. I didn’t like how this book seems to go round and round with the FMCs issues and i had a hard time focusing on this book. I am intrigued enough to see where this series goes but I’m not sure if I’ll keep reading because I most likely will forget everything about this book before the next one arrives. Thank you to NerdFam and the author for sending me a early ALC of this book in exchange for my honest review
This book follows three witch sisters on a magical journey through different worlds. I listened to this book on audio: I really enjoyed the narration and the sound effects used in the background to make me feel even more immersed in the world. The magic system in this book was creative, but I thought it felt a little underdeveloped. I was struggling with the pacing a little bit with the constant shifting of the magic system as the sisters' regained their memories. I am intrigued to see where this series will go, and I will most likely be continuing when the next one comes out!
I understand that this is a YA book, but I spent a good portion of it trying to figure out how old the FMCs actually are. The story has an interesting magic system, and I really liked the use of amnesia as part of the plot—it added an intriguing layer to the mystery.
That said, I felt like the book kept circling around the FMCs’ issues without much forward progress, which made it hard for me to stay focused. I’m curious enough to see where the series goes next, but honestly, I’m not sure if I’ll continue—I’ll probably forget most of the details by the time the next installment comes out.
Thank you to NerdFam and the author for sending me an early ALC in exchange for my honest review!
First, thank you to The Nerd Fam and Olivia Royal for a gifted copy of the audiobook!
This was a fun start to this story. Three sisters who suffer from amnesia due to a spell backfiring. They are in the body of teenagers but are hundreds of years old. They have to learn everything again while they wait for their memories to return.
There’s a lot of secrets and holes is everything because they also told everyone in their lives to not just give them there memories, to let them come back on there own.
The fight scenes were also pretty fun. And the banter between characters was funny. I look forward to continuing the series.
"Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted audiobook. This was a quick easy to follow YA story about 3 girls who wake up on a bus and realize they look awfully similar to each other. They soon realize they are sisters with unique abilities and meet some interesting characters along the way. The banter between the sisters was comical and definitely how I imagine many current conversations happen amongst our youth. I absolutely love the duet narration. I loved the magical moments in the story as they navigate their abilities. #thedivinersisters #thenerdfam" @thenerdfam.
.. I didn't enjoy this at all unfortunately. In the beginning I was really invested and found the idea of three witches who have lost their memories really interesting. However it soon lost me, this book is written like an info dump. The narration of the audiobook also wasn't great and I couldn't focus at all. If you're someone who listens at 1x (wild lol) this audio will be difficult for you as it's read at a much faster pace than what's typical. I had to decrease from my usual 1.8x to 1.3 for it to be clear.
Want to preface this with was the first audiobook I’ve listened to. The switching POVs were hard for me to follow as the book was voiced by one person and I couldn’t visually see the POV change. Also it didn’t really flow well between POVs at times, the changes were choppy. Overall this was a good story, lots of different magical creatures and a good amount of action. I liked how it was modernized with current slang being used throughout the story. I would recommend for someone in their early 20s personally.
This story follows 3 sisters with unique personalities and magic abilities who are suffering from temporary amnesia. The inter-dimensional world traveling and animal familiars was fun. I also loved the sister dynamic and the rotating POVs. My main critique is that the language felt too contemporary.
I think you will enjoy better as an actual read compared to the audio in my humble opinion.
Highlights: -Inter-Dimensional Travel -Magical Powers, Artifacts, and Familiars -Sisterhood -Rediscovering who you are
Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted audiobook!
I really enjoyed the journey of the three sisters as they rediscovered their powers and the worlds from which they came. Their self-imposed amnesia allows both the characters and the reader to learn the past as the story unfolds.
During the diviner sisters adventures, we meet many different magicians, and magical creatures. All are woven together in the underlying themes of head, heart, and gut.
Angeline, Chloe and Evelyn are three sisters that have banished themselves to Chicago to protect themselves from the empress of nightmares. Unfortunately for them, they have been found and it is time to return and begin defending their world. This book has quite a bit of world building that occurs and started off a bit slow with the descriptions. However, the pace picks up as the story developed. There are mythological creatures from varying cultures which I always love as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more.
This is based on the ARC edition provided by NetGalley.
Immediately loved the three main characters: sisters who have distinct and developed personalities and paths. Super fun book that is smart about how it handles larger themes in the magical world as it relates to our real world.
A fun read about 3 witch sisters! Olivia Royal does a great job of world building and seamlessly blends the city of Chicago with a fantastical world. I enjoyed all the twists and turns of this story. Perfect for spooky season!
This was an interesting read! Or well listen! I liked the plot it kind of reminded me of twitches meets Halloween town but more adult which was perfect for the season! I thought each character was well developed and kept you focused on the story!
This book is about three sisters who gain powers, become the chosen ones, and travel to different worlds to try to defeat evil.
The sisters remind me of the powerpuff girls with unique powers that complement each others. I loved the premise of this story and am interested to see where future books go.
I did feel this book was a little all over the place and tried to cram too much into this one book, also while feeling like nothing substantial happened. I was waiting for the sisters to fight the main villain, who was mentioned over and over, this climatic event didn’t happen.

Diviner Sisters started out unpredictably and was quite enjoyable. I listened to the audiobook and the author and her brother narrated it, so it has a nice personal touch. The story kept throwing a lot of things at you and there's a lot to catch up. That being said, I quite enjoyed the book.
There's a lot of parallel universes, many worlds, many stories, three sisters and one evil witch....an interesting premise to be honest. Oh and the music you here in the audiobook is made by the author's brother so, I like that tidbit.
