Placed into the service of Lady Mediera, Sister Anais settles into her new life. The war in the south continues to brew, but Anais is distracted by the social intricacies of court life. She helps Mediera through the birth of her first child and must protect them both against a mysterious threat. With a new power source at her disposal, Anais finds herself more than capable of battling even her most sophisticated of foes. The fourth book of the blood mage chronicles continues Anais’s saga, following Anais of Gable’s House.
Jamie Wilson lives in Massachusetts with her husband and son. They enjoy swimming and playing at local parks during the summer, apple picking in the fall, smelling the new flowers and splashing in puddles in the spring, and sledding and making snowmen in the winter. During naptime, Jamie loves reading and writing fantasy novels. Want to keep up-to-date with Jamie’s books? Another very enjoyable part of the story of Anais. The book was a very easy read and moved the story forward a few elements. I know this is the way Jamie writes but I oh so wish each part was longer. In order to get back to speed I re-read part 3 before reading this and now have to wait for part 5.
For this reason once I know I like an author I tend to wait until a series is complete before reading part 1. I have almost a 100 physical books on the shelf as parts of series and a similar number of e-books awaiting a conclusion so I can start them.
I only deducted a star as it is frustrating as a reader to want to read more but well it is worth the wait.
I gave this book a rating of 5 because I loved the book. Anais finds out that in order to stay beside Lady Meriada she has to find a path to take out of the five path that are available in the sisterhood. She read a book telling her that the path of protector was the quickest to be done but if she failed the test she would be kicked out of the sisterhood. Lady Meriada and Lord Colin had a baby some time after they had gotten married. At the naming ceremony of the baby (Uther) Anais had found out by one of the sister that she had a short time left to chose her path to become Sister of the Second Cloth. If she didn't make a choice or pass a test she would be sent to Courriershire to be a sister til she gets married. When she heard that she panicked and remember that the path of protector was the quickest but also the most risk taking path to take. She also remember that she had to give something to the one that represented the protector. She did that then she tried lighting the candle when that didn't work she used her magic. After she did that the head of the sisterhood walked in and told her that she had to light the candle again before the next full moon and that she should of talked to her first before ongoing the test to choose the path of the protector. Later on she caught two assassins breaking into Lady Meriada room trying to assassinate her. They both didn't reveal to her who put the hit on Lady Meriada. After awhile Gable the fat man tried to control her into killing Lady Meriada. Which she wasn't willing to do so she used her magic to break her ties with him but at a cost. Cedric had arrived at the Great House because she had sent word for him before she had found out that Gable had a hand in it. Anais and Cedric talked and she asked him to patrol the outside of the Great House near Lady Meriada's room. So he did and end up capturing someone who is close to Anais . I recommend this book to anyone that love magic and that loves books of older time periods.
