The contract of her career.
The woman of his dreams.
A rivalry neither of them is willing to lose…

Work hard, play never. That’s the motto of a woman running her own company in the male-dominated security industry, at least.

I’ve got a contract to win, and nothing—no one—is going to stop me. The catch? The only competition is Carter Mitchell—the boy I grew up with, now a man who’s damn near impossible to ignore.

I’d be worried about how intelligent and capable he is…if I wasn’t so tempted by the challenge of beating him.

Problem is, the more time I spend with Carter, the harder it is to convince myself not to get mixed up with my rival. And I learned the hard way not to mix business with pleasure.

Trusting him feels like a betrayal…but what if the real risk is walking away from the one man who’s ever guarded my heart?

Wild and Free is a workplace rivalry, forced proximity, small-town romance filled with banter and open-door spice.

This is book 3 in the Wild Bluffs Series. It can be read as a complete standalone.

My writing is a testament to my love for romcoms, sprinkled generously with the very tropes that make my heart race: sports, small towns, and sarcastic heroines.

There is nothing I enjoy more than weaving narratives about strong, intelligent women and the irresistible men they love. If you enjoy books that are real, smart, and endlessly entertaining, you're in the right place!

When I'm not building worlds or creating characters that stay with you long after the last page, you'll find me spending time with my family, watching sports, or enjoying my small, Colorado town.

Okay, let me just say, I devoured this book. It gave me all the good stuff: the slow-burn tension, the competitive banter, the delicious mystery, and that always-been-you kind of romance that just melts your insides. Ugh. So good.

The heroine? Total boss. Running her own company in a male-dominated field? Yes, queen. And Carter Mitchell? Whew. The childhood-friend-turned-competition-turned-something-more had me blushing, swooning, and side-eye smiling the whole time. Their chemistry? Off the charts. 🔥

I loved the mystery woven into the story, it kept me guessing and on my toes without overpowering the romance. It gave the book a little thrill that paired perfectly with all the emotional tension. And can we talk about that “we shouldn't, but we might, and oh no we did” vibe? Chef’s kiss.

If you’re into rivals-to-lovers, forced proximity, and small-town charm wrapped in sass, spice, and heart, this one is going to hit just right. Trust me... you’ll finish the last page smiling like a goofball and immediately want to re-read all your favorite Carter scenes. 💘

I loved this book! Kelsey and Carters story is so sweet. I got One Tree Hill vibes from the characters, families and relationships that I absolutely ate up. Author also included what can be considered a hard topic in a realistic and tasteful way. Wild Bluffs feels like every stereotypical small town in the best (and a very accurate) way and I hope I get to visit again. I hope Izzys story is next!

Emma Kate writes such cute, fiery, hot and banter filled books! I absolutely adore all the characters in Wild Bluffs. They’re so supportive of each other, protective and get so happy when someone they love succeeds.

This one mentiones a heavier topic, dementia, and I think it’s written so beautifully. You really feel for Carter, who is such a kind, loving and caring son. There’s literally no bad bones in his body. I’m also SO HAPPY to have read Kelsey’s story. She’s always been this intimidating, strict, stone cold woman, and now we got to see the softer, more vulnerable side of her.

I wasn’t as pulled into the story as I was with the first two books, but the storyline and the suspense made me so curious!! I didn’t feel the same connection with the characters here as in the two before.

Overall a great story for Kelsey, and I’m VERY excited to read Izzy’s story next!!

Thank you so much for the ARC Emma Kate! 🫶🏼

💬 Another great book in the Wild Bluffs series 👏🏼

This one focuses on the oldest Harper sister, Kelsey who owns a security company and Carter former Army Ranger turned security consultant, who has been in love with Kelsey since they were in school.

For the most part I really enjoyed this book, and all the books in this series, but I think this is the one I like the least. While I'm sympathetic to Kelsey's character I find her hard to relate to. I'm not really into overly independent FMCs.

And it seemed like there were times she was being purposely obtuse, which was confusing because Carter kept praising how much smarter than him she was. Like... does Kelsey not understand what a crush is? How many times does this man have to tell her that he was crushing on her in high school for her to understand that he was/is incredibly interested in her?

I did really love Carter, although he seemed more passive than I expected from an Army Ranger. But either way I'm such a sucker for unrequited first loves and the way he's been carrying the torch for her for most of his life. Plus all the shit that you said to deal with from his mom and his brother. It made me happy that he finally got his HEA.

And the story itself was really good. It pulled me in pretty quickly- the suspense plot was well done and I only guessed maybe half of it. I enjoyed the rivalry between the MCs and they're snarky banter back and forth. This book also does a lot of setting up for the next book which will be about Jaxon and Izzy. I feel like I don't often see this sort of set up in books but I really liked it here and it made me really excited to read the next one.

All in all it was a solid engaging read.

I absolutely adored this contemporary romance! Set all over the world, Kelsey is an ex-army girl who is determined to make her security company succeed this time round. She comes up against Carter, an old friend who has returned home from the marines too, who is also working in security. The problem is that they are both after the same contract, with their old school friend Jaxon, a famous country musician. The rivalry only gets more tense, when they both realise that they have a chemistry they are struggling to deny. When thrown into a hotel room together for the night well…

This was a wonderfully written romance which really pulled at my heartstrings. I am so incredibly impressed with the amazing way that @emmakate addresses dementia. As someone who has had to watch the devastating effects of this heartbreaking, incurable disease, this really struck a chord with me.

I can’t wait to read the others in the series and keep an eye out for Izzy’s story in the autumn. Thank you again for this amazing ARC read, it was one I truly enjoyed and would honestly read again.

Some of my favourite quotes:
🖤 ‘Love isn’t like they show it in fairy tales; it’s pulling your heart from your chest and handing the bloody flesh to someone else to see if they want to protect it or crush it. It exposes raw truths that leave you more vulnerable and alive than you’ve ever been before.’

🖤 ‘Second chances are rare - loves timing can be fleeting.

🖤”Who are you? A shadow daddy?” 🤣

Wild and Free follows Kesley Harper and Carter Mitchell as they are thrust into a workplace rivalry. Kelsey and Carter are both recruited by Jaxson Steele to provide him with security during his world tour. They are told that at the end of the tour, one of them will get the contract to provide Jaxson’s future security needs. As Kelsey and Carter are forced to work together, they start to learn more about each other.

I especially enjoyed how Emma wrote Kelsey. She’s strong, smart and knows her worth. She’s not willing to make compromises or cower just to please anyone’s ego. Even though she’s strong, she’s far from being heartless. She’s empathetic and knows how to support the people she cares about. In much the same way, I love how Emma wrote Carter. He understands his responsibilities and doesn’t shy away from stepping up. He’s kind, courteous and loyal.

As predictable as the story was, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and following the characters as they navigated their relationship. The bonus chapter was the cherry on top! I cannot wait to see how Izzy and Jaxson’s story develops.

I fully enjoyed this read! From the competitive banter, the rivals to lovers, the slow burn tension, I couldn’t get enough!
I really felt for Carter who is a kind and caring son. And he is understanding and doesn’t shy away from stepping up. And Emma who is strong and empathetic and supportive to the people she cares about.

Emma and Carter work for competing securities who eventually have to work together and sparks fly off between the two! With suspense, some mystery, and the banter I couldn’t put the book down once I got into it.

A couple quotes
“Love isn’t like they show in fairytales; it’s pulling your heart from your chest and handing the bloody flesh to someone else to see if they want to protect it or crush it.”

“You’re not in my future- you are my future. If you’re not at the center of it then it can’t be my future, because everything that I am, everything that I will be, revolves solely around you.”

Thank you for the opportunity to read this story! Looking forward to more from the author Emma Kate.

I received an ARC of this book.

This is the first I've read from this series, and it works well as a stand alone. The only thing with not reading the others in the series is the amount of character names in the first few chapters was a little overwhelming.

I really enjoyed how Emma wrote the Alzheimer's storyline with Carter's mum, it was moving to see them navigating her changes together.

The plot is what you'd expect from a romance but every question was answered, and details accounted for. Down to the outfits the characters wore matching them perfectly (I'm looking at you Epilogue).

Overall a great lighthearted read with added emotion.

Kelsey and Carter's story was such a great read. I love the rivals to lovers but with it's always been you thrown in. Both Carter and Kelsey work on personal security and get a job protecting country music star, Jaxon, who they also grew up with. Their companies are set to work together for several weeks and then he'll pick one to continue working with. Carter needs this job to help his mom and Kelsey needs to prove herself in a man's world. They become closer and realize they've always had an attraction and start to secretly hook up. Carter wants more, can he convince Kelsey they are worth it? What will happen after the tour?

Next book is the interconnected series and I just can't get enough. I love these characters!! With their work and families, there was truly never a dull moment.
Here you follow Kelsey and Carter who work for competing security companies. But they end up having to put their differences aside to work together. Things don't go as they seem and sparks fly. There was such a natural chemistry between the two
Let me just say that Chapter 34 was one of the most realistic scenes I've read in a while and it was perfect! They are the perfect balance to one another

This is an ARC review.

Wild and Free is a great continuation of the Wild Bluffs series. A little less banter than the first and second but nice to have a different trope played out.

This book, like the other 2, feel like a old comfy hoodies you put on after a long day. When you mostly read darker or more serious books and need something light and lovely and refreshing.

If you are looking to suspend disbelief in a romatic and fun way, this book is it. Slightly spicy but still vanilla, this was a great comfort read.

Another Wild Bluffs romance that did not disappoint. EK keeps you interested in the romance between each of the characters by giving them all independent storylines. Although we always end up back in Wild Bluffs, everyone has different backgrounds taking us on a spree of unique and fun adventures.

I received the ARC for Wild and Free and I couldn’t wait to read it just from the little snippets I had seen. I was not disappointed! I both couldn’t wait to finish the book, but also didn’t want it to end either. The FMC is strong and intelligent and the MMC is a total golden retriever. You’ll find yourself rooting for them from the very beginning. Even though it is interconnected to the first two books in the series, it can be read as a standalone! Izzy’s story is up next and I can’t wait to read it

My first ARC read and it wasn’t a disappointment. I loved these two. It took me a little long because I didn’t want the book to end. I loved the story and the awareness for dementia disease. Not as much spice as I would normally like, but it didn’t too much.

I was so lucky to get an ARC of this book. I was new to Emma Kate’s writing so I decided to read the previous books in the series before starting this one. I have to say she has quickly become an instant buy/read author for me. Perfect level of chemistry and banter between all her characters, main or side, but also just a really easy read with books I didn’t want to put down. Carter and Kelsey were just the most perfect couple and their relationship was sweet and nurturing.

Also as someone who has had a relative with Alzheimer’s, the true representation of how hard it really can be. Not knowing what’s best for them without burning yourself out is such a brutal thing to balance. Emma Kate did it so beautifully that it reminded me of how tough but important it is to cherish those moments!

Tropes:
-workplace rivalry
-one bed
-he falls first and HARD
-small town
-memory loss caregiver rep

4 stars - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Fierce Chemistry & Compelling Competition

I was lucky enough to receive Wild & Free as an ARC from the author, and I’m so thankful I did. This was my very first Emma Kate novel, and now I understand what I’ve been missing. Even though it’s part of a series, it reads beautifully as a standalone—Emma effortlessly weaves in just enough background so you’re never lost, only drawn in deeper.

From the very first pages, I was hooked by Kelsey and Carter’s story. Kelsey is the kind of heroine I love most—fierce, unapologetically strong, and full of heart. Carter is her perfect match: tender, loyal, and quietly powerful in the way he fights for what matters—especially when it comes to supporting his mother. Their worlds collide when they find themselves competing for the same security contract with country music star Jaxon, but what begins as rivalry quickly unravels into something so much deeper.

There’s a magnetic pull between them, an unspoken understanding that goes beyond the surface. Their relationship is equal parts passion and vulnerability, and it made my heart ache in the best way.

Some quotes that absolutely stole my breath:

“The night stretches on, the city’s heartbeat matching our own, and for the first time in a long time, I feel like we’re exactly where we’re supposed to be—together, in this moment, and I’ll do anything to make sure we get more nights like these.”

“There is no too soon for me. No amount of commitment is too far… everything that I am—everything that I will be—revolves solely around you.”

“She’s my lighthouse, showing me the way through any storm and rocky patch of water.”

“Kelsey is the other half of my soul… she’s my puffin.”

These lines didn’t just make me swoon—they made me feel. That’s what I look for in romance: real emotional stakes, moments that linger long after the final page.

I’m giving this 4 stars only because I found myself craving just a little more from the side characters and a few of the subplots—but honestly, that didn’t take away from the beauty and emotional depth of the story at its core.

If you’re a fan of rivals-to-lovers with sizzling tension, heartfelt connection, and characters who feel, Wild & Free is one you won’t want to miss.

Coming June 10, 2025—make sure it’s on your TBR. ❤️

4.5 rounded up

Kelsey is looking to expand her security business with a massive contract with a country music star she grew up with. The only problem is, another local security company is also up for the role, and the two of them and their teams have been thrust together into a 7 week trial period to see which company comes out on top. It should be absolutely fine, except her main point of contact is capable, broody, gorgeous and intelligent - some of her biggest weaknesses.

He's also been harbouring a secret crush on her single grade school, and finally has the chance to do something about it.

*****

Do not start this book at 10pm like I did, because I stayed up until 2am and then immediately picked it back up again despite barely being able to stay awake! This one is ridiculously addictive, entertaining, and the perfect next book in the Wild Bluffs series.

I love that this book has two ex-military contacts instead of pro-golfers like the first books so we get a unique spin in the small town. Kelsey was a Marine and now runs her own security intelligence company, whereas Carter was a Ranger and works in security for his brother's company. They're pitted against each other, and from the get-go we get to see Kelsey hold her own, push for Carter to be accountable, and challenge his views of what it's like to be a woman in a male-dominated field. From his perspective we get so much adorable, pining, and humble growth while trying to care for his ailing mother from afar that makes him the perfect cinnamon role MMC.

Add in both teams working together while also trying to stand out, plus Kelsey being actively sabotaged while her and Carter slowly become close friends, and you have a mix for a pace that keeps you thinking 'just one more chapter' the entire time.

I loved both leads and how they came about, and especially that there was no need for a third act breakup. They held their own, and supported each other and it fit both of their characters so genuinely.

*****

Thank you to the author Emma Kate for the digital ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Oh my, Wild and Free is just the sort of rom-com book I love to ride to the end 😌 Set against the backdrop of cozy-and-crazy Wild Bluffs — with a full-on career, chemistry, and childhood-rivals-made-iffy-business-partners clashing at its heart — Emma Kate has penned a modern romance chock full of sass, stakes, and—yes—serious swoon.

The FMC here is an ambitious and brilliant up-and-comer in a male-dominated security firm: tough, sharp, and driven. Her focus is laser-sharp on one goal: winning a contract that will make or break her career. And in her way stands the literal obstacle of Carter Mitchell, golden-boy boyfriend-to-hipsters everywhere and, not-so-coincidentally, the childhood friend she spent years teasing and snarking on. Enter: hot, cocky, and probably-not-even-secretly attracted to our FMC tension.

Needless to say, I was sold in the first chapters when the proximity and competitive work situation were cemented: this had potential to be fun! The wit is snappy, the chemistry is on point—and let’s talk about all that heat that builds with each passing moment these two actually spend together (sigh). It’s that sexy-sweat-equity trope, with stakes high enough that they might just end one or both of their careers if they let it go any further.

Emma Kate did an excellent job of balancing the laugh-out-loud humorous moments (their snarkfest! The small-town drama) with the weightier feels, as well. These two have a shared history, and as they (finally!) peel back layers that have been built up over the years… it gets real (the feels), emotional, and swoony. I also want to mention that the small-town/worldbuilding of Wild Bluffs was totally on point for my small-town romance-loving heart: cozy places, family dinners galore, and those deeper looks at emotional undercurrents we all know and love.

The long and short of it: Wild and Free is a fun, funny, super-steamy romance you’ll enjoy for the humor and the feels. Rivalry + forced proximity = guaranteed hijinks—and major fun reading. Get ready to cheer for them, swoon for them, and steal some of their sassiest lines for yourself, my friends

Wild Bluffs is officially one of my favorite small town romance series!! Kelsey and Carter's story made me feel everything from butterflies in my stomach to goosebumps all over! There was a competitive rivalry, banter, slow-burn tension, mystery, and small-town family.

Let's talk about our leading lady; Kelsey. She served in the marines and now owns her own security company--a male-dominated field. She is a fiery queen that absolutely slays! Normally, we don't see the soft side of her and this time, we finally do when she learns how to navigate her feelings for Carter Mitchell. Along her journey, she learns how to let go of fear and embrace the possibility of love, and healing. She is worthy of love -- not just from Carter, but from herself and the community around her as well.

Carter Mitchell-- total dream guy! He has been in love with Kelsey ever since high school but has never taken a opportunity to tell her until now. He wants to take a chance during their rivarly with their jobs, but there are a few things holding him back, including his mom that has dementia. Carter puts his mom's healthy practically above everything else because she is all he has left. He has always been the black sheep of the family, in relation to his step father and step brother. Now, he is fearful of committing himself to a relationship and getting burned in the process.

When Kelsey and Carter finally choose to take a chance on each other, they have to face challenges of overcoming fear, healing from their pasts, and remaining professional while working against each other. Oh, did I mention that there is mystery intertwined in their story!?! That aspect of the book had my toes curling and shivering with anticipation 😊.

The first two books in this series, I was absolutely glued to the pages. I wasn't as glued this time around but I still loved the story and wanted to know more as the suspense started to build. Overall, this was a wonderful story and I can't wait to read about Izzy's!

Thank you so much for the ARC read Emma Kate!!

Wild Bluffs own Jaxon Steele (AND) one of country music’s hottest stars is hitting the road on his Forever Starts Here tour. He’s looking to hire a replacement security team to add to his tour permanently. The catch? Two different security teams simultaneously competing for the (same) final contract.

Kelsey Harper and Carter Mitchell both had ambitions and dreams that existed outside of Wild Bluffs. When high school graduation came and went, so didn’t they. Brought back home by different circumstances, Kelsey and Carter discover their respective security teams are vying for the same contract - a contract they both can’t afford to lose. Carter can’t afford to lose his job when he his mom’s medical care is on the line; Kelsey is already the underdog as a woman running her own company in a male dominated industry.

Carter has always had feelings for Kelsey. And Kelsey? She’s discovering there’s more to Carter than meets the eye. But she’s learned her lesson mixing business with pleasure. But what if the real risk lies within blocking her own heart?

I liked the idea of book three going in a slightly different route career wise from the first two books. It kept the book new and exciting. Emma definitely delivered on all the drama and chaos one would expect when hitting the road with a superstar! I enjoyed the storyline and the new characters brought into this series. I did however feel like I didn’t connect as well with Kelsey and Carter as the previous couples in Books 1 & 2.

I was sooo excited to continue on this journey and so happy to be reading Kelsey’s book!
Thank you so much to Book Funnel and Emma Kate for the opportunity to be an ARC reader again!

Duel POV: Kelsey and Carter
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
🌶️🌶️

Kelsey and Carter’s security companies compete for a famous musician’s touring contract. She has something to prove being a woman-owned business in a male-dominated industry and he needs the money to care for his mom. They both are so good at their jobs and spend so much time in every city they travel together for the tour, they get a lot closer than either expected. Carter has also been harboring a crush on Ms. Harper since they were in high school together but never acted on it.
It is so cute to see this second chance and “it was always her” progression of the romance.
This sweet man remembers everything and it is wonderful to read how they navigate an honest and trustworthy adult relationship.

I thoroughly enjoyed their story and fully appreciated the extra elements Emma adds to each of her books. This one tugged a little more on the emotions and had some suspense. You don’t have to read the other books before this one, but I highly suggest it, because you will love all the other characters like your best friends.

Also, whenever anyone is ready to make any WBCC merch, I will be the first on the list! I need it to find a man on the golf course lol jk

Wild and Free releases on June 10th so get your download on if you’re into any of the following tropes:

🐧 Workplace Rivalry
🐧 Small Town Romance
🐧 One Bed
🐧 Ex-Military
🐧 Forced Proximity
🐧 Caregiver Rep
🐧 No Third Act Break Up
🐧 Guaranteed HEA

Loved this and CANNOT wait for Izzy’s book!

I’ve never been happier to be back in Wild Bluffs 🫶🏼

Emma Kate is back and better with a new banger featuring Kelsey Harper and Carter Mitchell - a work place rivals to lovers romance.

If I didn’t already love Kelsey, I love her even more. She is fierce and a badass business woman but keeps her heart close to prevent any further damage. She is hilariously witty and perks up at any slight challenge.

I absolutely adored Carter and how he yearned for Kelsey behind doors for years. Time and being away in the military didn’t change his feelings, if anything, it enhanced them. Fate brought them together on a mission of whose team is better, but as it turns out, all they needed was each other.

The found family aspect was beautiful in the sense that Carter only had a handful of people on his side, but Kelsey’s inner circle welcomed him with open arms as if he was always meant to be there.

What I’ve admired most about Emma Kate’s writing is that she’s not one to shy away from sensitive topics. The mental health aspect and discussing Carter’s mother’s illness was gracefully written in a way that lets a reader feel raw emotions and real life experiences.

Although there wasn’t much back nine behavior (IYKYK), I loved this book equally the same.

Filled with meddling siblings and best friends, Forever Wild gives you all the romance, banter and longing in this small town romance book.

Favorite quotes:

“She’s my lighthouse, showing me the way through any storm and rocky patch of water.” - Carter

“Kelsey is the other half of my soul, the one I come back to again and again, no matter how long we’re apart - she’s my puffin.” - Carter

“We’re not just a love story - we’re the endgame.” - Carter

CLEARLY, Carter Mitchell is elite. 💫

I absolutely devoured this book. Between the competitive tension and “it’s always been you” vibes, mixed with cameos from my favorite couples in the first two books, this read was giving me everything I needed.

Kelsey, our FMC, is a total BOSS. She runs her own company in a male-dominated field, proving she’s strong, witty, and confident. I really loved that Kelsey was able to stand her ground and make herself known in a room, rather than cowering in the corner and bending to what others say. Carter had so much going on in the background, but was always kind and loyal no matter what. He was quiet, but he wasn’t afraid to stand up for his people and what was right. While these two characters are technically in competition with each other, there’s just no denying the chemistry between them. Kelsey and Carter are my new favorite couple to come out of Wild Bluffs hands-down. I loved how they bantered back and forth, showed up for each other, and remembered the little things.

I loved the hint of mystery that was sprinkled in with this read. It didn’t take away from the romance aspect, but it did add a touch of suspense and thrill that complimented our main characters perfectly. There were some heavier subjects that were touched upon, but they were handled with the care and grace that is deserved and, in my opinion, these elements enhanced the story. I enjoyed seeing previous characters here, while also meeting some new characters, and following along as they all became one found family!

While this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend the whole series. I think I know where we are headed next in this series and I am so excited! Thank you to author Emma Kate for the opportunity to read this ARC! All opinions are my own.

Emma Kate keeps stays on par with the third installment of the Wild Bluffs series. While the first two books were golf romance, the third book was a romance, the background of workplace rivalries with a secret childhood pining. I love how the series took a new span in this book involve characters who have their own unique ideas and background and had nothing to do with golf (it was the right time to change the pace).

Carter was an awesome MMC. I enjoyed his long secret crush on Kelsey and his intriguing past. His relationship with his mom was so sweet and wholesome, and honestly made his purpose and drive in the book so meaningful. I found myself getting very sentimental about how much he cared for his mom‘s condition. The book has a very nice representation of caring for someone with Alzheimer’s. This is a personal subject for me and it was handled beautifully.

Kelsey has been my favorite Harper sister since book 1. She is so headstrong and so fiercely put together. It was exciting to read about her story. I love her funny sense of humor and how she is able to let go of control and learn to trust and love someone again.

The found family and small town hots home in this book. Brace yourselves for loving these characters and series even more! I was swooning at Carter and his devotion to Kelsey. I love the introduction of a few new characters (Jaxon) and h have no idea how I will keep myself waiting for the next book in the series!!! This is my favorite book of the series and I will definitely be reading it more than once.

I was recently given the opportunity to read an ARC copy of Wild and Free. While it’s part of a series, it reads wonderfully as a standalone. There are references to earlier books, but Emma Kate includes just enough context to make the story feel complete without rehashing the past.

I’m always excited to pick up a book and discover an author I enjoy—and this one hit the mark. The story blends character development, romance, and just enough suspense through the security-related plot to keep things engaging. Kelsey’s experience as a woman in a male-dominated field felt authentic and refreshing; it was present and important, but never overdone. Carter was an absolute sweetheart—genuine, reserved, and trying his best with the hand he’s been dealt.

I had very few complaints about this book—and my biggest one is actually a compliment in disguise. One of the more intense side characters, a fan with a dangerous obsession, was so intriguing that I wanted to know more. Without giving too much away: how did she become so fixated on the musician? How was she able to be so deceptive, even in a clearly altered mental state? When did Dee first show up? These lingering questions are a testament to how fully developed even the side characters felt.

This won’t be my last Emma Kate book. I’m already excited to go back and read the first two Wild Buffs stories. If you're a fan of contemporary romance with layered characters, a bit of workplace competition, and a touch of suspense, Wild and Free is a great pick.

Thank you, Emma, for allowing me to be a part of your ARC team and read Wild and Free ahead of its release date.

Emma did it again! There’s so much heart, banter, and character development with Kelsey and Carter’s story. It keeps getting better!

Kelsey Harper is an independent woman running her own company in a male-dominated security industry where respect and reputation is everything. She’s all work hard, play never because of a lesson from a previous relationship that left her building up an impenetrable wall, it takes her a bit to let anyone in.

Carter Mitchell’s dream girl for the last decade has always been Kelsey Harper. He’s left the army because his mom’s memory is going and the contract that his job is trying to win will help pay for her care.

Here’s the catch: it’s in competition with Kelsey’s company and they are both trying to win but they’re on a trial run and have to work together before it's won. Can the workplace rivalry and forced proximity keep them from mixing business with pleasure?

If you’re looking for a slow burn from friends to lovers in a small town where he falls first, this is for you!

ARC REVIEW:

Wild Bluffs Book 3—Let’s Go!

I was so excited to dive back into the world of Wild Bluffs, and Kelsey’s story did not disappoint! Huge thanks to BookFunnel and Emma Kate for the chance to be an ARC reader again—it’s always a treat.

Dual POV: Kelsey & Carter

In this installment, Kelsey and Carter—both owners of competing security firms—are battling it out for a high-stakes contract protecting a famous musician on tour. Kelsey’s determined to prove herself in a male-dominated industry, while Carter needs the job to support his mom. They’re both incredibly competent and driven, and all the time spent traveling together only pulls them closer.

There’s a lovely layer of second-chance romance here—Carter’s been quietly crushing on Kelsey since high school, and watching him finally make his move is heart-melting. He’s the kind of guy who remembers everything, and their relationship builds with such care and emotional depth. It’s honest, grown-up, and so satisfying to watch unfold.

Emma Kate once again adds those special touches that bring her stories to life—this one has a bit more emotional weight and even some suspense to keep you turning the pages. While you can absolutely enjoy this book on its own, I highly recommend reading the earlier books too—you’ll fall in love with the entire Wild Bluffs crew like they’re your own best friends.

A heartfelt, feel-good romance with just the right amount of tension and tenderness—loved it!

ARC! This one is hard for me to review. Overall it’s a good storyline. The writing is good and editing was good but I wasn’t hooked.

Was I drawn in right away? No
Was I struggling for a while? Yes
Did I enjoy it overall? Meh

I loved Kelsey’s character. She was strong, independent, smart. Things an FMC should be, things all women should be.

I liked Carters character. He was strong and smart but kind of a sissy. Not exactly what you’d expect from an Army Ranger. Maybe it was because Carter was struggling with his mom have dementia but still he seemed to be a little flat as a character but loved Kelsey as much as an MMC should.

The two knew each other basically their whole lives with Carter actively avoiding conversing with her until he was forced to work side by side with her by a famous musician, who also happened to be a friend from school and their hometown. A little kismet moment thanks to Jaxon.

A little twist on who was out to sabotage. A little smut (my scale a total of one 🌶️)

This was my first read by Emma Kate and I’ll give it to her that small town plays in her favor but it wasn’t entirely my cup of tea. Maybe I expected a little more but that could just be based on other small towns I’ve read. It also felt a little dragged on. Could have been shortened a little and not as much filler.

Overall…

📚✨ ARC BOOK REVIEW✨📚
Wild & Free by Emma Kat
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)

💬 QOTD: Who else loves a workplace rivalry with major slow-burn payoff?

Wild and Free is everything I want in a small-town romance—sharp banter, simmering tension, and heart. This workplace rivals-to-lovers story features two fierce, driven leads whose chemistry leaps off the page from the very first chapter.

Emma Kate delivers a compelling story packed with emotion, slow-burn romance, and a few unexpectedly deep moments that are handled with grace. Kelsey is strong, smart, and completely unapologetic. She’s a powerhouse in a male-dominated security industry. And Carter? The perfect blend of loyal, respectful, and swoon-worthy. He’s the only man standing between Kelsey and the contract of her career - and the one who stole her heart.

What starts as a battle of wills turns into late nights, stolen glances, and serious “I will NOT fall for him” energy.

💬 Tropes I’m loving:
💼 Workplace rivalry
💕 Forced proximity
💼 Childhood friends to lovers
💕 Small-town charm
💼 Open-door spice 👀
💕 Dual POV

📖 Whether you’re already a fan of the Wild Bluffs series or just diving in, this book reads beautifully as a standalone. And let’s just say… after this, you’ll be counting down the days for Izzy’s story too. 💫
