The magic of the book lies in its dialogue-driven format, which turns storytime into a performance. Children are encouraged to voice either the spirited, curious Otter or the dry-humored, occasionally sarcastic Owl, creating a dynamic and interactive experience. It’s a wonderful tool for encouraging reading confidence, comprehension, and expressive storytelling.
As with other books in the series, the illustrations are absolutely captivating. Each page is alive with movement and personality, perfectly reflecting the transformation Otter undergoes—from confidently wrong to delightfully informed. The expressions, details, and vibrant color palette add a rich visual layer to the story’s humor and heart.
The Know It Owl and the Otter succeeds at making learning memorable. It’s a delightful way to introduce scientific facts about otters while reinforcing the joy of curiosity, listening, and keeping an open mind.

This was a wonderful kids read, we are introduced to Owl, who is wise and a little witty. Owl talks about all the animals and correcting anything that comes up with the animals. Owl shares wisdom that my kids really enjoyed learning about. This this is a very entertaining series that teaches and educates children on different animals. The illustration for these books is so colorful ad wonderful and show the animals like they are pictures. These books also have a bonus page at the end on all the extra information on the animals was wonderful. My daughter loved the how to draw at the end and was drawing all the animals in these series of book. These are a series book, but they don’t have to be in order they are all of different animals and their facts from their bones, habitat, food and so much more. Very educations and learning for kids on different animals.

This book is part of the Know It Owl series, and is an adorable way to start it all. In this book, Owl meets an American River Otter (not to be confused with sea otters, of course), who seems confused on many things in his life. This book has a repeating phrase, "otter oughta know", that will be easy for kids to pick up on, making the book more fun for all involved. The phrase is repeated every time Owl has to correct Otter on something he says and claims, that is incorrect. This book is beautifully illustrated, and the story is short and well crafted. There is a rhyming scheme to the writing, and the story is engaging for children and adults alike.I would highly recommend this book for parents, teachers, and even children's librarians who wish to teach about American River Otters.
The Know It Owl and the Otter by Terri Sabol. These are the best kids books. They have beautiful illustrations and are very engaging, encouraging each kid to interact with the story. This time the Know It Owl meets Otter and as usual he has to correct Otter on some of his facts about things. The Owl says the phrase "Otter outta know" each time the Otter is wrong and the kids will love repeating it each time. Owl loves to share his knowledge and he is not shy about doing it. These books are funny, educational and engaging. They will keep the kids attention with all the fun facts and the awesome pictures. I am buying my new grandson all of these books for when he is old enough! They would make great gifts as well!
Another cute book in the series! I love these books so much! You get so much information on each animal that is written about. These are great for kids first library up to elementary school age. All of these would be great mini lesson plans even! In these books you follow along with a witty and sometimes sarcastic Great Horned Owl, as he talks about an animal. In this book he's talking about Otters. He gives you all kinds of facts about otters and there are even some interactive things to do too! Also at the end of each book you get to learn how to draw the animal!! So much fun! If you read the whole series you will learn so much! I know I am, along with my kids! So well written, engaging, and you learn something new with them all. And the illustrations are adorable too!
In this book, Owl visits a North American River Otter and clears up his misconceptions, and as the author states, “tells Otter what Otter Oughta Know.”
As with all the other books in the series, the illustrations are bright, vivid, and colorful, engaging readers. Additionally, games are included to further educate readers about otters.
In addition, I learned a few new things about otters. They have two sleep schedules. In the summer, they are nocturnal and sleep during the day. In the cooler months, they are diurnal and sleep at night. They have not one coat but two. They have a warm undercoat and the longer hairs that we see.
The series isn’t just for younger readers. Older readers and parents can also learn a few new things.
This book was a great follow up to the first and we all absolutely loved getting to know more about Owl. It was brilliant that we got to learn about otters in this story. It is an animal my kids have recently become familiar with and this book really brought them to life. They loved seeing them as a focal point in a story. As with the first, the book was entertaining but educational. It teaches kids a lot about the world of animals and really helps to expand their horizons. The book is fun to read and the illustrations really bring it to life. This is a brilliant story that I would highly recommend.
To the review of The Know It Owl: "I wondered if this book and the other 3 books in the series - could be an educational proposition, and at the same time a pleasure to read and watch, for my 6-year-old Daughter. Yes - the answer is yes! : )) Reading these items is a pleasure. The narration and the media used - including visual ones - strengthen it. I really like the fact that you can recognize the emotional states of the characters in these stories. I hope that my Daughter will be delighted with this reading as much as I am." - I add here the feeling that "Owl and the Otter" works like a magnifying glass looking into the secrets of life : ))
Yet another hit by this incredibly talented author! After we read a previous book in The Know It Owl Series, I knew I had to pick this one up immediately. Both of my kids and I dove right in as soon as we could. We were greeted again with eye-catchingly gorgeous illustrations and our favorite Know It Owl. This time we got to know a pretty cool Otter as well. Even though my youngest is a little bit older at 9 years old, he still has trouble sticking with stories. This one kept him engaged the entire time! This would be wonderful in a daycare or in a classroom as well as at home. I can’t wait to see more books by this author!

I enjoyed reading this book to my grandchildren and watch their faces as we read it together. They loved the pictures and the funny things the otter did. Very cute book that is also educational. Fun story that draws the reader in from the beginning. This is the 2nd book in the Know it Owl series that we read and I love that the "fact checker" stand was built by the owl for this book. Like the first book, the story and activities for the reader are engaging, educational and fun! After enjoying the first two books in the series, I highly recommend this series and look forward to reading the next books.
Again, the cutest little series of the year so far. I hope that Terri Sabol and the incredible illustrator Paula Piechna add to this series soon. There are thousands of animals in this world and this beautiful series could do magic in spreading awareness for some that are endangered while also helping growing minds learn more about our world. Colorful, and silly illustrations, interactive, and filled with facts perfect series for every family.
This is a cute little childrens book that I think your little one will enjoy. I have read the series to my one year old granddaughter and she sits and listens and looks at the pictures. She is still to young to learn what the stories try to teach but I must say that I have learned a lot.
As she gets older, we will read the story again so that she can enjoy it and be as smart as the Know it all Owl. I hope your little ones will enjoy this book too.
The Know it Owl and Otter is a fun children's book that teaches animal facts. The otter is a little clueless about himself and the Know it Owl corrects him, while teaching the readers. It is a little silly and fun but educational. There is a maze and seek and find, as well as a drawing lesson at the end, so you can learn to draw adorable otters like the wonderful illustrations of this book. Did you know otters spend nearly half their day grooming?! Me either!
The Know It Owl and the Otter by Terri Sabol, with illustrations by Paula Piechna is part of The Know It Owl series. This book, like the others in the series, does not disappoint. This is a fun way for kids to learn about otters. Great facts throughout this book. Even can include a little lesson about the "know it all" attitude otter gives off and how nicely owl corrects some of those facts that aren't quite correct or missing information. Great book that needs to be in every library.

The end has more facts about otters and whether or not we should be concerned about their extinction or not. I really enjoyed learning some new things of my own.
This was an incredible Children’s book. It has so many facts crammed inside in a friendly, easy to understand manner, it is laid out well, well written, and beautifully illustrated. I enjoyed it a lot and could see myself reading this book to my boys when they were younger, or even using it in a homeschool lesson.
