Angela Oliver, "LemurKat", is an author and illustrator. She loves cute and quirky, weird and wonderful, wildlife, and they often find a way to creep into her stories. Angela Oliver has a BSc in zoology and psychology, and enjoys adventuring around the world: visiting such places as Australia, Hawaii, and Madagascar. She resides in the garden city of Christchurch, New Zealand.

Angela Oliver has two novels to her name: "Aroha's Grand Adventure", an animal adventure story set in New Zealand, and "Fellowship of the Ringtails", the first in the series described as "epic fantasy, with lemurs". She does not tend to write human characters, favoring the challenge of non-human protagonists.

Her miniature works of art can be found in private collections around the world. Angela Oliver has also created the ZooTrophy trading card game and the New Zealand Naturally Tarot deck.

Fascinating to see so many different approaches to one theme. Shows how much talent exists in one city! I love the approach of bringing together such a variety of styles and genres for such an abstract concept. As a reader, whatever I am in the mood for is included in this anthology.

The Christchurch Writers' Guild are an informal group of like-minded individuals with a love of writing. Whilst many of the members tend towards fantasy, and other speculative fiction, there is so much more here. And true, some stories might not be to everyone's taste, but you will definitely find something that you love.

My favourite picks are:

"Underglass" which is beautifully dark and twisted.

"Her Fault" a tongue-in-cheek poking-of-fun at the whole vampire romance genre. Extremely entertaining!

"Ned's Hallelujah" which is a gritty science-fiction piece, which as one of the editors for the anthology, I must have read it 3-4 times and still been impressed each time with the characterisation and careful plotting. Ami does a grand job of getting into Ned's head and capturing his PoV. It's a (slightly) scary place!

"The Longest Night", a nicely written high fantasy, displays great characterisation and makes me crave more, more, more (so let me know when your novel is done, Scott).

I also really love the writing style and charaterisation of "At the Water's Edge", which is a beautifully lyrical fairy-tale - I just wish it were longer!

And, I suppose I should also make mention of the somewhat creepy dark fable "The Birth of Niamh" which I cannot rate in my top lot because I wrote it, but I have to say, I am extremely pleased with how the plot turned out, even if it took some rather unexpected turns. If you have read it and wish to see more of Niamh, please let me know, she is a character I "conceived" years ago, but this is the first time I have written about her.

Typical local writer selection. One author, Jonathan Kingston-Smith shows promise.
