Can light find its way through darkness? Or does it become consumed, never to shine again?
Sent into Witness Protection outside a small town in Astoria, Oregon, Prue Collins carries a secret that endangers more than just her own life. Though her world has been turned upside down, she doesn't expect the cold shoulder from the man meant to protect her.

Rude and sarcastic, Ex-Officer Henry Clay wants nothing to do with his new roommate, and doesn't mask any hard feelings, only secrets. His wheelchair gives Prue a glimpse of his tragic past and she can't fight curiosity as more clues come her way, opening her eyes to the true stranger she's been sent to live with—and possibly, meant to help save. Can these two work together to keep her safe? Will the light make it through? Or will the truth be the thing that rips them apart?

Hello and welcome!

My name is Sydney Paige McCutcheon. I am a Christian and I am an author.

Thank you for checking out my GoodReads Author Page :)

Writing started for me in the fourth grade when I learned about poetry. I love how words can flow together like streams of water, telling a story in such a delightful and sometimes complex way. Poetry can be a fun puzzle, but it's also how I was able to express myself growing up.

Below is a link to Henry (novel) and some blog posts you might be interested in. Thanks again for checking out this page.

You may not always love what you read, but don't let it tarnish your love of reading. Another good book is out there.

Have a Happy Day :)

~ Sydney

(SPOILER ALERTS!) I want to make it clear from the start that I enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed, and the plot was engrossing. I wanted Henry and Prue to live happily ever after, and was thrilled when they did. I do have to admit though that I had two issues with this book. The first was not so much the heavy Christian influence (though I was barely touched by it), but Henry's miracle of being able to walk after being paralyzed. This seemed a little over the top to me; as though the author was trying too hard to prove that God exists. The second, and much more important issue, was the lack of gender equality. Prue was forever needing to be cared for and rescued by Henry. She continually second guessed herself, and needed Henry to guide her. Her petty acts of defiance served only to portray her as little more than a petulant child. That being stated, I felt the author had a firm hold on the natural talent of a writer. I will definitely read her second novel.

Warning: This is a spoiler alert for facts in this review.

This is a fast-paced, wonderful story about a woman in protective custody who falls in love with her protector. Both Prue Collins and Henry Clay have sarcastic and rebellious personalities, and these strong traits make the book interesting.

What I liked: Ms. McCutcheon certainly has a way with words. As authors, we’re always told to “show and not tell,” and this author is a master of that technique. I loved her descriptive passages and dialogue, and her narratives were creative and unusual. I also enjoyed meeting her characters who were interesting as well as believable. Even though the suspense lagged a little in the middle of the book, the plot itself kept it alive until it picked back up with a vengeance at the end.

What I didn’t like: Although I know God does performs miracles in today’s world, I don't believe His miracles are granted in such an incredible way and not immediately as an answer to prayer. When Henry Clay prayed to walk, after months of being paralyzed, he not only immediately felt his legs, but he could instantly walk, and the two bullet wounds he had were healed with no scars whatsoever on the skin. I know God can do all things, but in today’s world, we don't see Him grant such seemingly impossible reconstruction of human tissue.

When I received this book in the mail, I thought I would skim through it quickly and put it behind two other ones I was supposed to review first. However, after reading the first few pages, I HAD to keep reading. It captures your attention immediately, and if you enjoy reading suspense and romance, you will love this book. Over all, I give it five stars!

This book is an emotional rollercoaster that helps the readers to clearly feel what Prue and Henry are going through. It is full of detailed lovable characters and a very realistic setting of a small town. There are twists and turns along the way as the reader discovers a piece of the whole puzzle at a time. It is also a beautiful romance that keeps you wondering what will happen next and who will end up with who. The Christian message is full of truth and hope that can help the readers apply to their own lives. As if this isn't enough, the last few chapters will have you on the edge of your seat. I eagerly look forward to reading more from this author!

Henry

Henry is a fast paced tale of overcoming one’s self and finding love and happiness! Prue is gifting her sister the ultimate love. Henry has lost his love and himself along the way. These two have a past to overcome. Luckily they have a great supporting network in their small town! I did enjoy reading this book.

I'll keep this short. This wasn't bad and it was a fair debut for a new author.

What I liked:
1) This book was totally clean.
2) For some reason, the telling of this story in short narrative snippets worked. The writing wasn't perfect, but it was engaging.
3) The first few chapters drew you into the action right away.
4) The Christian message of this book. While it was very overt, I happened to agree with everything the h said about life in general and God.

What I didn't like:
1) The h, while an admirable character, was sort of a doormat. I know why she wanted to help the H, but the fact that she couldn't fall in love with the H was annoying. He was a jerk, moody and rude, and the fact that she didn't have the emotional control to keep herself from falling for him was sigh worthy, and not the good kind of sigh.
2) The H. Like I said, he was a jerk.
3) The angst. Honestly, the inner monologue of the h made her sound like a teenager, which was totally at odds with the decisions she made before the book began. All the jealousy and drama with the ex and annoyed me.
4) All the secrets. They annoyed me too.
5) I just couldn't connect with either of the MCs and found myself not really caring about what happened. Because of that, the suspense wasn't that suspenseful since I didn't care that much.
6) Another edit was needed to iron out the grammatical kinks.

I was drawn into the characters of Henry and Prue, two people who met under some of the rarest of circumstances. Prue was placed into protective custody and it would be none other than wheelchair-ridden Henry assigned to keep her safe.

I can understand Prue's reluctance to believe he was capable of the job but, given time, there wasn't so much talk of her being in danger - just to be cautious in her daily dealings with others so as not to give her identity away.

The life she made for herself while in Henry's care was one I hoped she would not have to give up. She seemed to fit in with the small community as though she had been born and raised there.

The ending of the book brought more suspense than I thought I might be able to handle, yet I continued turning the pages. Though miracles involving complete healings are heard of more from third world countries as opposed to the developed world, I felt it was a nice touch to the story as a reminder to people that God still delivers and heals, according to His ultimate plan.

All in all, I would definitely read other titles by this author; I really enjoyed the wonderful balance between characters and storyline.

It was pretty good, a really great debut novel. I really enjoyed the ending of the novel, I got caught up in the fact that I had guessed part of how it went down. The characters were portrayed well and the plot was pretty solid. A few times I was getting confused with the grammar and how different things were worded. Some words were spelled incorrectly or in the wrong order, but overall, it was very well done. Great job, Sydney Paige McCutcheon, I enjoyed it and cannot wait to read more from you. :D

Good Read

This is a sweet story of faith and good will. With not one swear word in the script, it was a breath of fresh air. I enthusiastically recommend it. It has surprising turns in almost every chapter.

I so enjoyed reading Henry! It kept me captivated and always excited to come back and read more. The story unfolded beautifully - not too slow and not too fast. Definitely, bitter sweet to reach the end because now I can't read it anymore lol. Very excited to read this author's second book!

i suspended a lot of disbelief throughout the book, the condescending behaviour and attitudes of the secondary characters notwithstanding, but when a guy who hadn't walked in years suddenly gets out of his wheelchair, I just couldn't carry on. Salvation porn at its absolute finest ...
