This is not a book you read in one sitting and it is not a book you rush through.
THE DAILY ARTIST’S WAY is designed as a daily practice—one page, one thought, one gentle act of attention at a time 🌱 Each day opens with a carefully chosen quotation from voices like Kabir, Dylan Thomas, Elizabeth Gilbert and others, followed by a short reflection and a simple prompt.

What stood out to me most is how intentionally the book resists overwhelm. There is no pressure to “fix” yourself or produce something extraordinary. Instead, it invites you to show up honestly and imperfectly 🤍

Even engaging with the first few days makes the book’s intention clear. The opening reflection on Setting Out, paired with Kabir’s words, gently reframes creativity as a personal, inner journey rather than a public achievement. It doesn’t ask where you want to go; it reminds you that wherever you are is already a beginning. That idea alone feels grounding in a world obsessed with speed, output and constant progress 🕊️

One of the strongest aspects of this book is its dismantling of harmful creative myths. The page on the “suffering artist,” supported by Elizabeth Gilbert’s insight, challenges the idea that pain is a prerequisite for art. The message is simple but powerful: it is not creation that causes suffering, but the absence of it.

As a daily reminder, this lands not as theory but as reassurance especially for readers who carry guilt, fear or self doubt around their creative impulses 💭

This is a book I would recommend to writers, artists and creatives of all kinds but also to those who don’t yet feel entitled to that word. It meets the reader without judgment and without urgency. Its strength lies in how gently it works, how patiently it waits and how deeply it respects the reader’s pace.

If you have ever picked up "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron and thought this is the year I am going to commit to reading and engaging with this book only to find yourself stopping after the first few pages, then this newest addition to the series may be for you.

This book shows how the original book can be broken down into even smaller, easy to consume and easy to follow activities. And each little lesson comes with a writing prompt and a mantra for the day. The best part is that you get 366 of them to tackle for a whole year. Instead of multiple pages on why you should be writing every morning, Julia gives you a little introduction and then gently nudges you on your way. This I think may make for a more interesting and pleasurable experience for some creatives that get overwhelmed with 'too much homework' in the other books.

I think this would be a great addition to any artist's 'self help' shelf!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press | St. Martin's Essentials and NetGalley for the digital ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I have been an avid devotee to Julia Camerons Artist’s Way for decades. The guided creative program has been there when I needed to get back on track with tapping in to my often elusive creativity. It has been a wonderful, if intense, program. Although The Artist’s Way offered a twelve week course, The Daily Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron is here with a 366-day plan that breaks it down into daily doses of creativity.

Whether or not you have done the original program or are new to the entire process, I believe this book will be a welcome addition to your creative arsenal. Even if you’ve never used the original Artist’s Way, this is a fantastic place to start. It basically takes all the information from the original and breaks it down into daily challenges, adding inspirational quotes and prompts to get you moving on what you really want to do.

The book is set up in an easy to follow and informative that re-introduces us to her four core principles:

Morning Pages
Artist’s Dates
Walking
Writing for Guidance

The book begins with a brief introduction to these principals, in a friendly yet informative tone. Then, Ms. Cameron gives us a daily chance to put these principles into action. Each day, for a year, there is a simple checklist, brief meditation, a writing prompt, and an affirmation all designed to help you break through barriers to your creativity.

Motivating and optimistic to creatives at any stage, The Daily Artist’s Way is a nudge to honor your creative self by flexing your creative muscles daily. In a slump it came at a perfect time for me to re-establish this practice as it has worked for me in the past but this book acted as a reminder. If you are trying to reignite your spark or turn over a new leaf, this is the book I would highly recommend.

Review: If you’ve never used the original “The Artist’s Way” book, this is a good place to start. It basically takes all the information from the book and breaks it down into daily challenges then adds inspirational quotes and prompts to get you moving on what you want to do. As in the book, the author suggests writing morning pages—three pages, handwritten, first thing in the morning. But she also encourages you to take walks, make artist’s dates with yourself, and to be open to creativity. In addition, there is an appendix at the end that gives you 52 ideas for your artist’s dates in case you can’t think of one yourself. I’ve been in love with the Artist’s Way for years and this is just a new addition to the group. One suggestion, though, I’d get this as an actual book rather than as an e-book. I think that would make it easier to work with. Just my opinion.

Recommended.

Do you long to express your creative side, yet feel somehow feel held back? This book may be just the thing you are looking for so that your creativity can be unlocked!
.
I’ve been doing The Artist’s Way for almost ten weeks now. It’s been a wonderful, if intense, program. It lasts 12 weeks. But now there is an alternative! The Daily Artist Way by Julia Cameron is here with a 366 day plan that I find exciting and full of much potential.
.
The Daily Artist’s Way: 365 Meditations for Creative Living begins with a brief introduction to the four core tenants of the original program, explained so they can be easily understood. Then each day, for a year, there is a brief meditation, a writing prompt, and an affirmation. These are all designed to help you break through blockages to your creativity. Plus at the back of the book there is an appendix with 52 Artist Date ideas! That may well be worth the price of the book!
.
I think we’ll all want the physical book for this one. I know I want to be able to annotate and otherwise mark up this book!
.
Whether or not you have done the original The Artist Way program or are new to the entire process, I believe this book will be a welcome addition to your toolbox.
.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC given in exchange for my unbiased opinion.

This book is the perfect companion to The Artist’s Way challenge. As someone who’s completed it, I find it’s a great reminder to keep going even after the initial challenge. While it’s designed to complement The Artist’s Way, it can also stand alone. The book offers a brief overview of the four core tools, so if you’re short on attention and struggle reading longer texts, it’s a great option. There are 366 entries, each with a wisdom note, a quote, a reminder, and a writing prompt—perfect for daily journaling, especially on days when inspiration is low. It also includes 52 artist date ideas, which helped me when coming up with new ones felt difficult. There’s a topic index at the front, so you don’t have to follow it in order if you don’t want to and can always search for specific areas you feel you need guidance in. Whether you’re seeking more direction in life or just want to deepen your creative practice, this book is a helpful guide. And with 366 entries, it keeps the momentum going, even past the year. I would highly recommend this to everyone, even if you don't consider yourself to be creative. It will help you discover more about yourself and build the life you want.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an eARC to read and review.

I am so excited to have access to this book and the tools that Julia Cameron has curated to help everyone develop their creativity.

I have always desperately wanted to be an artist, whether that was an illustrator, painter, sculptor, writer, etc. Unfortunately, I also feel as though I lack the talent to bring these dreams to fruition. Enter The Daily Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. Julia has given the every day, average person access to the inspiration and artist's tools in order to nurture, develop, and harness our own creativity. And what I love most of all, she has also given us permission to express this creativity in whichever way works for us. This removes the pressure of being creative in the "right" way.

I absolutely love the quotes, lessons, and mantras that Julia includes in order to jump start your creativity for the day, week, month, and year. You can easily repurpose this book every year, and I look forward to doing just that.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is for those who either have tried doing The Artist's Way (12-week program) or have done it in the past and need a refresher. Basically, this book is The Artist's Way Program in bite-sized pieces.

What I loved about this book is that it made The Artists Way more doable. I remember buying the book and doing the program a long time ago and it was great, but it can be overwhelming, especially if you're busy or if you've got a short attention span (me). It's like that saying: "There is only one way to eat an elephant: one bite at a time." Having a daily reminder is actually more helpful for me to shift my thought process and create a lasting habit.

Highly recommend this for people who want to stir their creative juices or get unstuck. This is like having someone hold your hand for a year -- one day, one small step forward, at a time towards that creative dream you've always had.

The Artist’s Way Workbook is a gentle, structured entry point into Julia Cameron’s creativity practice. Daily prompts, morning pages, artist dates, and simple walks help you reconnect with your creative self. The 52 artist‑date ideas at the end are such a gift—tiny sparks waiting to be explored.

Overall, this workbook is less about perfection and more about movement—small, steady steps back toward your creative self. I feel like this came at the perfect time for me.
I experienced multiple surgeries in 2025 and it was wonderful to have this guide on days where you need a little something more than PT and recovery. A way to use my creativity whether that is the morning pages, a daily walk, there was something for me every time I referred to it.

Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press for a #gifted copy of this book!

5/5 stars!

The Daily Artist's Way is an essential to not just artists, but journalists or really anyone wanting to do some deep work and introspection on themselves. I have heard so many great things about the original book for YEARS and to my understanding, the only difference is this book uses daily mediations and prompts which are incredibly helpful if you are stuck or cant figure out a great way to start your morning pages.

I highly recommend this book. You will walk away, even after just a couple weeks of daily input, with knowing so much more about yourself, learning how to live your life on your terms, and connecting with your creativity.

Thank you so much to Julia Cameron, Netgalley and St. Martins press for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

My only complaint is why didn’t this book come out sooner?! I remember when The Artists Way came out and I read it. I immediately found a local group of writers who were meeting monthly to discuss the book and the impact it had on their writing. These are precious memories for me. So when I saw this book I knew immediately it would be like seeing a beloved old friend after a lifetime apart. I had slowly over the years forgotten the tenants of the artists way and now I am feeling reinspired and reconnected to a very important piece of myself as a writer. I look forward everyday to reading my daily passage.

This was my first book by the author, but I’ve heard great things about her other (which I’m definitely going to read).

For me, this book came at the right time. I consider myself a creative person but I have a short attention span and a million other things going on. I loved how this was in bite size pieces and made it easy to stimulate my creative side again. I loved the prompts and found them to really unlock creativity.

This is an excellent book for those wanting to dive deeper into their creative side and truly for someone that wants to stop instagram rot. Open your heart to creativity!

Thank you St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy!

I love a daily/weekly prompt that isn't dated. I don't stick with things very well, so something undated is perfect for me.

The author has really great suggestions on living creatively and jogging your creative mind. She suggests morning pages (three pages written), solo dates, and walks. I'd much prefer a physical copy of this as I think it'd be easier to work with, but I'm happy I have this to read through throughout the year and incorporate a few of these.

As someone who has several Julia Cameron books on her bookshelf, I need a physical copy of this book. I was privileged to read an e-book from Net Gallery.

I have been doing morning pages for years now and I also journal. But often I find myself not knowing what to write about when I journal. This book has great prompts to think about for any creative person. And even those who don't think of themselves as being creative. While personally I would not be using it daily, I think it would be a great resource on my weekly 'reset' to use one of the prompts to think about and journal. It would also be interesting to use the prompts and then go back in a year or two or three and read what I wrote and to see if my feelings have changed.

Perfect! I’ve been aware of the artist’s way for a long time as it’s very popular in creative hobby circles (including journaling/scrapbooking). I’ve always wanted to read it and dive into morning pages but that always felt like a task for someday.

With this daily format of the book it feels not only less intimidating but broken into bite size pieces which takes the overwhelm and intimidation out of the practice. Love this idea for embracing and growing with personal creativity.

Advanced reader copy provided by St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley but all opinions are my own.

This book really lends itself to a page a day format, so it’s hard to review reading it as if it were one story. I really like the writing prompts and the quick summary at the start around morning pages and artist dates. Taking another crack at The Artist’s Way feels doable with the help of this book to guide me over the course of the year. I’m looking forward to rereading it at the start of 2026. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
