Now What? Book 1: The Gone: A truly British dystopian survival story—where trust can be more dangerous than the undead

Rate this book
“We call them the Gone because the person inside isn’t there anymore. It’s not about monsters. It’s about absence.”

Gary thought he had a survive, head north, find his dad’s cabin.

What he didn’t count on was having to lead a group made up of a bat-wielding brawler, a girl with sharper instincts than her blade, and a sugar-fuelled joker who wouldn’t shut up. They’re not exactly a dream team — but they’re all he’s got.

The Gone are relentless. And staying human might be the biggest challenge of all.

Now What? is a darkly funny, character-driven survival story set in post-apocalyptic England — perfect for fans of The Last of Us, Charlie Higson’s The Enemy, Shaun of the Dead and Stand By Me with zombies.

Ever wonder what the world of The Maze Runner books would look like if it was set in England?! Well, this book is the about the closest you could get!

This book was the perfect afternoon read for someone who loves a good post-apocalyptic story! The characters were brilliant, lovable, and kept me engaged the entire time!! I absolutely can’t wait to read the next one!

I’m a fan of character driven novels, and I find it quite remarkable that in just 100 pages I felt connected as a reader to each of them. The novel sets the dystopian scene of a world where there just remains ‘the gone’ and a group of teenagers who have found one another on a mission to find somewhere ‘less unsafe.’
Fantastic scene setting and character development - from a dystopian perspective I would like a little more understanding of how the world came to be. However I thoroughly enjoyed this with the found family theme, the thrills and humour - and finished it in one sitting!

Enjoyed this

A good story hand kept me reading. I usually go for more of a gore story but this was a fun read. Looking forward to starting the second one
