When the bad boy son of the United States president sets his sights on Eden Warren, she is not impressed. The first son is dubbed "First Disaster" by the public for his questionable antics and Eden has no intention of becoming his latest conquest. What could this former playboy do to convince Eden that he has truly changed his ways, especially when she discovers he's hiding a government-protected secret that could permanently alter the course of life on Earth?
Eden was just a normal girl nothing special really. Her mom got a great new job so they moved to D.C. and she was going to go to school at the school her mom got a new job at. She was worried about starting over and didn’t really want to leave her best friend. Her friend was very encouraging telling her everything was going to be fine. Plus she was going to get to go to school with the first son Andrew Wellington. She talked about how hot he was and that maybe Eden should try and snag him. Eden wasn’t concerned about Andrew. After he had a horrible reputation for being a playboy and she didn’t want any part of being his next conquest. Eden had no idea just how HOT Andrew was and of course he was in her very first class of the day and sat right behind her. Andrew liked Eden from the minute he saw her. However she wasn’t interested in him. When he talked to her he told her that he wasn’t the same boy anymore and that he had changed. She didn’t seem convinced so he told her that he was going to prove it to her. And that is exactly what he did. Eden couldn’t figure out what Andrew saw in her, so was just a plain girl nothing special. He could have anyone he wanted so why did he choose her. When she finally gave into her feeling for Andrew she learned something that she wasn’t prepared to learn. A six mile wide asteroid was going to hit the earth and cause damage and death. The world had heard of this asteroid and told that is wasn’t going to collide with earth but just go by it. Now that Eden knows differently what will she do? Eden and her mother where brought to D.C. by fate or at least that is what Andrew and his Father say, Will she stay with Andrew or not want anything to do with him because he know this whole time? What will happen to the world?
I really liked this book. Andrew worked so hard to prove to Eden that he was no longer the boy the tabloids made him out to be. He was like that in the past but has been trying to change. For the chance to be with Eden he will do everything in his power to prove and changed and never fall back into his old ways. Eden isn’t all that confident and is always worried that Andrew will realize he can do better or that she isn’t special enough for him and leave her. She is worried about getting her heart broken. Once she gets to know Andrew though she realizes that she was completely wrong about him. He may have been that party play boy once but that is not her Andrew at all. They have their fair share of problems as any characters or real people have. A couple times I wasn’t sure if they would continue to be a couple or not. I cannot wait to find out what happens next for them and the world. This book was very well written with great characters. Eden’s mom was funny and they had a great relationship. Eden goes through a lot emotionally throughout the book and learns just how strong she truly is and what she is willing to do for the people she loves. Andrew also learns a lot about himself as well as some of the things his father has to do and go through as the president of the United States. I look forward to learning more about the characters and what they go through next.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.
Eden Warren is just a normal small-town girl on a scholarship, who happens to catch the eye of the son of the President, a hottie named Andrew Wellington. Eden tries not to be impressed, being well aware of all the negative publicity surrounding Andrew. As Andrew tries to make her believe a tiger can change his stripes, Eden feels more and more drawn to him, much to her dismay. Yes, this is a truly interesting, rather sweet story of first love, in the beginning. When you throw impending doom, suspense, intrigue, terrorists and a great supporting cast of characters into the mix, you have a blockbuster romance thriller on your hands. I try never to read other reviews before I start a book. I like to form my own opinions, without any preconceived ideas. I was truly surprised to find this novel billed as a YA novel. To me, the only thing YA about it was there was no explicit sex, and I suppose the age of the characters, but while reading I tended to forget just how young they were. I would not hesitate to recommend this to all ages. Tara Tolly has managed to create a novel that will make you run through a whole range of emotions from "aw, that's sweet" to "damn you, you bastard!", not the least of which is, "What in the heck would I do? OMG I don't know." I was really not sure how to write this review without giving anything away, the story was just that fantastic, and I wanted to tell you all about it. I do hope that you will pick up this well-written, well-researched novel for yourself and enjoy it as much as I did.
Moving to DC from her hometown after receiving a scholarship to go to a high school where the best get to go, Edan meets the presidents son, Andrew. He is handsome but she is turned off by his playboy and partying ways. He tells her that's in his past and that he has changed. He promises to prove it to her if she will give him a chance. As the two get closer they each realize that they are falling in love. Then the unthinkable happens, while he is showing her the White House she over hears a conversation that the end of the world is coming. A safe hose has been set up and her family is going but they can't tell anyone. While waiting for the end they battle them selves and even terrorists to make sure they are together in the end, but will it be enough or will they lose each other too? This book is amazing. I cried so much but there at points that were funny and lots of romance. I recommend this book and seriously hope there is another one after this to find out what happens next.
First off, thank you to Tara Tolly and Goodreads First reads for providing me a copy of this book.
I have to admit, once I picked up this book, I didn't really put it down. From the first page to the last I enjoyed it! I wish it didn't end where it did! I had no trouble connecting to Andrew and Eden, they completely stole my heart from the beginning!
I received this book for a fair and honest review. I fell in love right along with Andrew and Eden. This is a fantastic story. I felt like I was right there with them. Eden was scared of Andrew at first, because of the tabloid stories, but once she met the real Andrew things changed. Then how to you feel about the end of the world? How would you prepare? This is a must read book.
This leaned a little too heavy on the teen romance side for me. The first half was fairly predictable, but the second half drew me into the story more. It is a solid story for a first book.
First Sun is Tara Tolly's debut novel and it is impressive. It is a young adult romance novel with a side of science fiction. For those readers who enjoy stories about falling in love and the sacrifices that go along with finding true love, First Sun is definitely a novel the deserves your attention. I identified with Eden as she was trying to find her way in a new school, a new larger city and then falling for the "wrong" boy. Most readers have probably experienced something similar to Eden and everything that Tolly describes felt spot on and real. My favorite thing about Eden was her love of history. As Eden starts to explore D.C. with Andrew, I could feel her excitement roll off the pages. I've been in Eden's shoes in many cities. Seeing the things only explored in books and television documentaries come to life and become real is such a rush. I was able to relive that magic through Eden. For readers looking for harder science fiction, First Sun will not deliver. The event that drives Eden and Andrew's relationship is a catalyst for them to explore what matters to them and determines how they will navigate the next level of their relationship. First Sun explores the emotional side of an end of the world event rather than the science side of it. The only disappointing aspect of the story, for me, is the reveal. Of course, being involved with the President's son has it drawbacks and when national security is a top priority there will be people who will disagree with what's being done. Eden's life is in danger and the reveal of who was behind putting her life in danger just didn't sit well with me. It's a case of a character being introduced briefly who doesn't seem to serve much purpose until the end. For me, as a reader, these are most disappointing who-done-its as there always seems to be ample opportunity to get that character more involved. Overall, I enjoyed First Sun. The relationship building set against the backdrop of a catastrophic event created an intense, page-turning read. As a debut novel, First Sun is a satisfying, character-driven novel that gets a thumbs up.
Who wouldn't want to date the presidents son? Eden. That's who.
She's new to D.C. and the First Son (Andrew) has his eyes on her. However, he's been dubbed by the tabloids as First Disaster for his partying lifestyle, something Eden's just not into. He insists he's changed, but has he?
The first half of this book is the sweet love story of Eden and Andrew. The second half? Well, that's where things turn dark. Because Andrew and his father are hiding a very, very big secret.
If you are a sucker for a good romance, this is a great book to pick up. It's very well written, the characters are enjoyable, and there's room for a sequel.
DISCLAIMER: I do work for the company that published this book and I designed the cover, however my opinions are 100% my own and true.
Wow! I didn't know what to expect when I started this book, but I am really glad I read it! Andrew is the president's son who after losing his mother became pretty much a bad boy. Eden is just your average small town girl who moved to D.C. to attend school where her mother got a job. When she meets Andrew, her opinion of him is not very good. She of course had read the tabloids and saw his bad boy persona. But as she gets to know Andrew, her view of him changes, as does her feelings. When a huge secret is uncovered by Eden, things get a little crazy. With the end of the world looming, what will happen to Andrew and Eden and all those they love? I need more of this story! Great job by the author. This is well written and keeps you engaged from the very first page!
First Sun starts out as a well-paced, but fairly conventional young adult romance. Girl-next-door Eden finds herself going to school in Washington D.C., and trying to deny the attraction she feels for the President's son, whose wild antics nearly cost his dad the most recent election.
But Tara Tolly throws the changeup about halfway through the book, and the stakes get much higher.
The relationship between Eden and Andrew is realistic and loving, but with just the right amount of conflict to make a good story. And Tolly lays the groundwork for the second half of the book very well.
I'm looking forward to the next chapter of this story!
I truly enjoyed this book because of the two story lines that came together, which made it much more than I had originally thought the book was going to be about. It mixes a young adult romance with a tiny bit of science fiction, I guess you would call it. (I usually do NOT like science fiction, and wouldn't have picked up the book had I known, but this book is different.) Both stories seem plausible, and I had no problem suspending disbelief. I love the characters Eden and Andrew, and hope the author decides to write more about them in a sequel, if possible!
This is a great love story in the midst of an impending devastating event. With the end of the world only a couple months away, Andrew and Eden must face the options they have to save their love. But will love be enough in the end to save them or are they both part of a grander plan? Great job by Tara Tolly in writing a book that you will not want to put down. I can promise you will finish this book wanting more! Very well written with believable and lovable characters. -Chell
A breath of fresh air! What an interesting combination of storylines. The characters were authentic and had organic thoughts and fears. The only drawback I saw was one incident I won't name for fear of spoilers, but I felt it was not needed. It went overboard in my mind and turned the book too fanciful but I loved how she ended the book. Bravo!
What could possibly have better to do than to start reading this book right here?!! It's a great read! Mystery, thriller, romance all in one! It was hard to put it down and had me turning the pages like crazy trying to figure out what was going to happen next!
A very exciting read from beginning to end, I couldn't put it down! Loved the romance and the characters. Highly recommend for young adults. The love story alone is enough, but with the added twist the book should be a best seller.
