#J.C. Reed is going to be the death of me!! ♥#

The Lover’s Game was one clusterf*#k of the word: C.O.M.P.L.I.C.A.T.E.D.

In here, we have lies, secrets, betrayal, steam

description

description

and one hell of a roller coaster of ups and downs!!

I’d be lying if I were to say that this book was easy to process because it wasn’t. You essentially have one person holding the deck of cards and one person trying to put the puzzle together.

It was maddening!! And yet satisfying!!

Great job J.C. Reed and damn you for giving me such heart palpating ache and happiness throughout!! Looking forward to The Lover’s Promise!!

How many times can your heart shatter? How many times can your trust be broken before you no longer feel like yourself? You only feel like a piece of something you used to be.

I absolutely love Brooke and Jett, but they are stressing me out! After reading the intense prologue, I was already having anxiety about this relationship. I just want them to be happy dammit! No more deceit, no more mystery, and no more games. My heart breaks for these two. It’s a passionate, intense, and real love that they have for one another, but the lies and the secrets continue to pile up, putting such a strain on their relationship that Brooke snaps and runs away to her old life, a life without Jett. But even she feels the loss everyday. She finds herself comparing every man she meets to him.

The author started going one way with the story, having Brooke find a job and meet new friends and try to move on, but the next thing you know….BAM! Another mind fuck that I wasn’t expecting at all! Bravo J.C. Reed! Way to keep us on our toes. Just when you think the games are over, they have actually just begun.

“Your name?” he asked. Even the way he asked me screamed dominance, as though he was entitled to all—not just my name but also my body and mind.
“Jenna,” I said my sister’s name without hesitation and stretched out my hand in what I thought was a confident manner, though truthfully, all my confidence had flown out the door the moment he had turned his gaze on me. He made nervous, even more so because he was hard and beautiful.
Beautiful to look at, hard to hold on to.
He was like a beautiful angel carved in stone—not a peaceful seraph but the punishing kind, one who wouldn’t hesitate to draw his sword and go to war to fight anything or anyone that stood in his path. An angel to fear. And fear was what I felt.

ARe you kidding me? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? How was I supposed to stay refreshed for my job. This book didn't give me any sleep. It didn't give me rest. For hours I sat there, reading, praying, wondering, loving, cursing, hating. I loved The Lover's Secret (Book 1 in the series) but The Lover's Game blew my mind. The words flew so well really well, I forgot I was reading a book. It has been a long time a book has done this: pulling at my heart strings and leaving me craving and wanting for more- for Jett, for their story to continue.

"In love, we bonded. In passion, we rose. And in trust, we reconciled. I told myself that if you ever broke my heart again, karma would get back at you. And if it won’t, if it takes too long, if it forgets, I will make sure revenge will pay you back.
My name is Brooke and I know this: Love has four letters.
One for you.
One for me.
One for our child.
One for revenge. Sweet, bitter revenge.
I bet you didn’t see that one coming. I look forward to the day you’ll feel the same pain I went through. I look forward to the day I can look at you in the knowledge that we’re even. Maybe you had secrets, but this time I will make sure secrets won’t be the only thing you carry home.

Brooke is a kickass heroine. I love her strength but also her vulnerability. I love that her character feels so real. It makes it easy to connect to her.

The Lover's Game was a romance book and mystery book all rolled in one. Every time I thought I had some small piece of it figured out, it would all get twisted around all over again. There was always a new curve-ball being thrown, and a new discovery being unveiled. While I hated Jett in book 1, in this one I started to love him. The way they fight, I know they care about each other.

My heart goes out to Brooke. She is hormonal, because of her pregnancy, but her day of dealing with her situation immediately pulled me in. And oh the drama!!!! never get tired of seeing a couple fight. It shows passion!!!

Betrayal. Anger. Jealousy. Secrets. Lies. Regret. Despair. Determination....

"...In life there might be rules. In love there are no exceptions to those rules. No one is spared from heartbreak. We all suffer it at some point or another. You simply can't control who you love and in particular, you can't control what kind of person they are."

Brooke feels betrayed by Jett so once again she has fled. She is alone except for her friends, angry and bitter. She wants to shut Jett out, but he is hard to forget. She has to make decisions to take control of her life and try to move on. But she is also unsure of what danger might still be following her.

I will admit that this book drove me crazy! Brooke is the perpetual runner and Jett is the mysterious keeper of secrets that you want to believe but he makes it so damn hard. The avoidance, miscommunication, anger, push and pull, and hurt that they heap on each other is so aggravating. At alternate times I wanted to smack each of them and then lock them up together and force them to really talk and share secrets.

Both have reasons to be angry and hurt. Both are stubborn and tend to make impulsive decisions. Both are good at holding in feelings and secrets when they feel they have to. I want Jett to be good deep down and for there to be explanations for his secrets. But he is like a vault and does not make it easy to trust him. And Brooke does not allow much explanation time anyway even if he wanted to share. She still has such insecurities and trust issues that it just makes the situation that much more difficult.

"I can't tell you, Brooke. You have to trust me."

I love Brooke and Jett when they are together, but they can be exceedingly frustrating when not. They just keep falling into the same traps that cause issues...the biggest being his keeping her in the dark and her jumping to conclusions and taking off.

While I had pushed Jett away, a part of me wasn't ready to let him go just yet. That same foolish part of me kept hoping he wouldn't give up on us so easily, wished he'd find a way to prove to me that he was an honest man.

Their lives and relationship are a complete mess and about to get messier. Brooke's new job and friends add more drama and complications. This one is more about Brooke trying to come to terms with her situation and move forward. But Jett does have a role in it too. This installment had a few surprises and twists that snuck in on me,

Her best friend Sylvie plays a big part in this one lending her BF support, humor, and ass kicking. We also see more of Brooke's new friend Thalia who introduces her to Grayson...another intriguing character. And speaking of intriguing...there's this guy named Check...Hot!

This series keeps me thinking, wondering and trying to put all of the pieces together. Every once in a while we see a connection made. And I know more will continue to happen for us to get the full picture. It is told in Brooke's point of view and Jett's secrets are locked up tight. But I still have hope that he is doing everything for the greater good. But it is such a convoluted mess with so many variables that it is hard to decipher what all is really going on under the surface. It has me tense and frustrated while trying to figure it all out and I am so impatient. I am usually pretty good at figuring out plot twists but J.C. Reed is really testing me. I have theories, but nothing I can truly pin down. But trying to put it all together is part of the fun of this series. So I am looking forward to the next book The Lover's Promise.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Ms. Reed’s writing is interesting and full of drama. One thing to expect is expect the un-expectable. Like I mentioned earlier, I was hoping for answers but only found myself with more questions by the end. I am desperately hoping Brooke gets her head out of you know where so she can start focusing on what’s important. There are several things looming over-her-head and it was explained why she’s been acting the way she has but…My goodness I really miss that super strong independent person I fell in love with at the beginning of the Surrender Your Love series. Sylvie was just as amazing as she has always been. She is Brooke’s super glue I just hope that things start to come together in the next book because I may just die in the mean time. I love Sylvie’s determination to push Brooke towards what’s right and how to deal with her life and make the best of things.

My Wish
So so, so, so many! Jett to make more of an effort. Brooke to control her lady bits, pick up her big girl pants, and getter done! I have several more but I will leave it at that. For now.

My Rating
3.5 Even though my review wasn’t very positive it doesn’t go against the writing or the story if anything this has made more passionate about the next book and the resolution I’m seeking. Get ready for a roller coaster of emotions with this one. You’ve been warned.

This picked up right where The Lover’s Secret ends. Brooke is trying to get on with her life. She does not want to see Jett. It is over even thought she is pregnant. Brooke is unable to forgive him for the lies and cheating. But there seems to be more to the story than what Jett is telling her.

Brooke realizes that she must find another job. She has to completely end things with Jett. It is for the best. She must do what she can to save what little bit of her heart is left.

Finally Brooke picks her self up and head to her new job. She needs this money. Once there things are going smoothly until the event is closed early. Then a person from her past appears. What is he doing here? Brooke must figure out what is going on to save herself.

I am looking forward to book 3 to hopefully get all the answers to Brooke and Jett’s life.

"All the feels"! The Lover's Game had me tied up in knots throughout the whole book. One minute I couldn't put the book down and then next I was nervous to read the next line.

The first half of the book, I wanted to hit Jett across the back of the head and was praying Brooke would just move on without him and then the other half I was mad at Brooke and wished she would get a clue!

After reading "The Lover's Secret", I was left slightly disappointed (and if you read my review, you will understand why), but with that being said, J.C.Reed has won me over with this installment! Great job J.C.Reed!

This book had me reeling and wanting more! I CAN NOT WAIT for the next installment!

**Warning: this ends in a cliffhanger!**

The Lover's Game was so much better than book 1. I loved it. There is so much suspense and mystery in book that I'm trying to figure things out. I love that a book can keep me guessing. I also love that the characters feel real. They have real problems. I can't wait to read more.

The mystery and suspense is back. Jett is hiding things and the reader is left to wondering what that mystery is as there are so many unfitted pieces in the puzzle that you question if you really ever knew the character just as Brooke is questioning did she ever know the man she fell in love with.

** JOSIE'S 4.5 STAR REVIEW **

Please make sure you read Book 1 The Lovers Secret in the No Exception Series, this review will have spoilers!

J.C. Reed does it again with this second instalment in this series. It starts off where the first book left off, with Brooke walking away after witnessing Jett with Tiffany. Brooke is reeling from Jett’s betrayal. She cannot believe Jett would betray and lie to her again especially after what happened the last time. She is devastated, angry and hurt. The author writes Brookes feelings in such a way that I felt her pain. It was gut wrenchingly sad and full of emotions. For the second time in this series I do not like Jett.

“He had broken me into pieces. The stupid fool I had been for falling in love with him, how could I have taken him back after he had betrayed me only to betray me again? And to think he told me I could trust me, that he loved me, that I was the only one in the world for him, and that he would never cheat on me.”

In this one we see more of Brooke than we do Jett. Brooke is determined to get away from him and never deal with him again. She is stronger, colder and is more determined to move on with her life. She takes a modeling job that her friend Thalia spoke to her about. When she shows up at the modeling agency, Brooke meets Greyson. Similar to Jett, Grayson is dominant, handsome and demanding. Grayson immediately intimates Brooke but he agrees to give her a chance considering she has no experience at all. He makes an exception to when hiring Brooke. (OH NOT SAYING A WORD, you have to read it.)

In an effort to stay away from Jett, Brooke goes to her best friend’s home. As usual the support and loyalty between the two is refreshing. Slyvie will do anything to help Brooke and after learning what happened she is just as angry and will support her friend in anyway. Jett has no idea that Brooke has left him and the more time goes by he begins to panic. Brooke receives text messages and numerous missed calls from him which only increase her anxiety and anger.

"S*** happens, Sylvie. You know that.”

“I can’t help it. I hate what he did to you. I hate that he lied. He could have at least had the balls to tell you the truth.”

“Baby, I’m done at work and will be back at the hotel in 10 mins. Can’t wait to see you. Have you forgotten our date? WHERE are you? Let me know so I can pick you up.”

She tries to keep herself busy so she doesn’t think about what happened. During this time, she starts getting that feeling that someone is watching her. She has a new job, new friends and wants to work on herself. The more she ignores Jett the more determined he is, to find out what happened. In this book, J.C. shows readers a different side of Brooke where she refuses to be the victim again.

“Brooke what’s going on?”

“Stay away from me, Jett. It’s over. You can’t have me anymore. You can’t sleep with me anymore. In fact I’d rather you just left and never contacted me again.”

“The last time I checked, we were still together. I’m not leaving until you tell me what’s going on.”

“I don’t believe you. You’re a cheater and a liar.”

“I don’t love her. I love you. Don’t you understand? I love you, Brooke-you and no one else.”

Jett knows how hard it was for Brooke to trust him again after the last time. All she wants is for him to be honest with her. I felt so bad for Brooke and Jett. He is hiding something and keeping a secret. He wants and needs Brooke to trust me but he has done nothing to show her that she can trust me. It broke my heart to read Brooke pleading with him to tell her the truth. I cried, I felt her pain with her love and desire to want to give him a chance. J.C. Reed did an amazing job in writing the confrontations between them. They were deep, gut wrenching, full of angst, pain and sorrow.

“Look I get that you’re pissed at me, but it’s just…complicated. You need to trust me.”

“Tell me Jett.”
“I can’t, I have my reasons. You need to trust me.”

“What reasons would that be? What the hell! Are you trying to control me?”

“No, that’s not it.”

“What other reason would that be?”

“I can’t tell you, Brooke. You have to trust me.”

"I don’t have to do anything.”

Jett is not used to losing and he does not know how to handle Brooke’s steadfast determination to have him out of her life. If you read The Surrender Series, you know Jett is not just going let Brooke go. J.C. Reed always has a way of writing her books in a manner that keeps me completely invested. I was anxious while reading but I needed to see what would happen. There is danger lurking, and let me tell you the way it was written it completely took me by surprise. I was left saying WTF just happened? I cannot wait to see what happens next. I know Jett is going to pull out everything to get Brooke back. I can’t wait. So much happens in these books I just couldn’t put it down.

Actual Rating: 4.5 Wonderful Stars!

The Lover’s Game by J.C. Reed was another fantastic addition to the No Exceptions Series. This book picks up right where The Lover’s Secret left off, and I could not get enough of this book from the moment I picked it up!

The events of this book added so much to Brooke and Jett’s story that I have come to love over the books in this series and the Surrender Series by J.C. Reed. (The No Exceptions Series is a standalone series from the Surrender Series, but they do connect, so for the best reading experience I suggest reading all of the books!) The more I read this series, the more I get hooked in, and I am just dying to know what is going to happen next with these fantastic characters and their exciting story.

You can feel everything Brooke is feeling throughout the story, but you especially feel all the pain, emotion, and vulnerability she experiences with the events in this book. You feel this right from the beginning, and it makes you want to comfort her and just fight for her. You just want to make her better, and feeling all of this through Brooke’s perspective is very powerful.

Brooke is determined as hell in this book to make everything alright, even when she is in a true tailspin after what happened in The Lover’s Secret. I loved that Brooke was determined as hell to figure everything out and make it all work. She faces a crap ton, and through it all she is feisty. Even though this is probably the worst time in her life, she is fighting like hell, and I freaking loved that!

This book has many different mysteries weaving their way through the story. You’ve got everything that’s going on with Jett, then you’ve also got Brooke’s paranoia over the possibility of harm coming her way. There are just so many mysteries and questions you want to solve and answer. While reading this book you will be trying to put it all together, and that just made this book highly engaging. This book also brings up a lot of questions that make you really think about the story you are reading. You will question Brooke’s actions and feelings, the other people and what they’re up to, and so many more things. These questions bring this story to life and it really makes you wonder how it’ll all come together.

The interactions in this book between Brooke and her best friend Sylvie were just wonderful. These two are truly there for one another. In this book you also meet some new females who add another wonderful layer and connection with Brooke. Gina and Thalia are carefree and fun, and bring true liveliness to the story. The female friendship aspect of this book is wholly authentic, and you will feel the connections and friendships developing over the course of the story.

I really liked that there is a lot of darkness that goes along with The Lover’s Game. That darkness comes out in so many varied and unique ways, and makes this books very different from other’s I’ve read. It made it stand out in such a good way. This darkness also made the story seem so much more real because of what that darkness was stirring up with Brooke and Jett and everyone else.

From the moment I began this series with The Lover’s Secret until the end of this book, I hit the ground running and have yet to stop. I absolutely love that. This book picks you up, and takes you on one hell of a ride. The events and characters of this book series come to life and I dare you to try and not be engaged as all get out reading this book.

J.C. Reed’s books are written beautifully. The writing that is so thoughtfully crafted brings the story to life, and makes it very easy to slip into the world that’s created. It also makes it very easy to connect to the characters. It is just so easy to imagine and experience this story because of the writing.

This book is full of some major twists and turns. I won’t reveal what those are, but just know that they will blow your mind. There were a few specific ones that had me SHOCKED. These twists and turns take the story on a path that I can’t wait to read more of, because I have to know where this path is heading.

The Lover’s Game was another magnificent addition to the No Exceptions Series. The characters you’ve fallen in love with are back, and are thrown into some pretty interesting and memorable situations. This book just had me falling more and more in love with Brooke and Jett’s exciting story, and I cannot wait to see how it continues in the next book in the series.

I’m sure that one will be another unforgettable story.

“Love grants us the power to forgive, to love when we’re hurt, but it also gives us the courage to let go, and the understand that to love, we love freely – at our own choice.”

“His intensity had pushed me into a state of obsession, where desire became my addiction, and hunger my passion.”

“In love there are no exceptions to those rules. No one is spared from heartbreak. We all suffer it at some point or another. You simply can’t control who you love and in particular, you can’t control what kind of person they are.”

I have mixed emotions about this novel. I still love the story, I love the characters, and I absolutely love J.C.’s writing. I think the lack of Jett in this installment kind of let me down. However, the completely new surprises and mysteries made up for it ten-fold. I mean I was wondering at all times in which direction this was going to go in. I just couldn’t put the puzzle together, and then when I thought I had it all figured out – BAM! yet again, another surprise.

“It’s easy to be in love with the idea of love rather than actually loving a person.”

This installment picks up exactly where The Lover’s Secret left off. As you get more involved in Brooke’s life, Jett’s betrayals, and the sheer madness of everything going on… you can’t stop reading. I truly love Brooke’s character, but at the same time I want to scream at her at the top of my lungs and tell her to just follow her heart. I get it though, I do. She’s guarded and for just cause. A few new characters get added to the mix and give further perspective into Brooke’s life.

“No man is worth the pain of waiting for him to change.”

“In love, we bonded. In passion, we rose. And in trust, we reconciled.”

The new characters of Thalia and Gina definitely brought more to the story. The new mystery and all these new opportunities for Brooke are truly testing my skills! I love when an author actually challenges my mind to figure out what’s going to happen. J.C. Reed definitely tested me, time and time again. Although I didn’t see some of it coming, my intuitions made me second guess quite a few times. Maybe Brooke will be able to make it without Jett. I almost hope not, but it’s possible.I can’t even tell you how much I’m anticipating the release of The Lover’s Promise. I NEED to know how this story plays out. Will she get back with Jett? (I certainly hope so) or does Brooke make it work with what she’s got.

“A good friend knows about your best days, but a best friend has lived through all your worst.”

Per usual, I devoured this book. I can't stop thinking about the book hangover it gave me either. I just want to know how this story plays out. I strongly recommend that you read this series, and while you're at it... read the Surrender Your Love series. Personally, I would read Surrender Your Love series first, so that you get a more in-depth view of Brooke and Jett. However, you don't have to. Just a suggestion. :)

THE LOVER’S GAME (No Exceptions #2) by JC REED

Even though No Exceptions book two is told from Brooke’s POV, Brooke and I are still in the dark as to what Jett’s game is! Gr…the author has indeed got us all worked-up! Why his behaviour towards Brooke is so out of character is another detail that must not be overlooked either. He makes out to be the caring lover, but as yet, he's still got to prove himself to me. One thing is for sure; we going to have to wait for The Lover’s Promise coming in October to find out if he really is who he claims to be.

If you’re reading this review, it’s because you've read The Lover’s Secret and well know Brooke’s made a preconceived decision regardless of her carrying Jett’s child. I personally think her lack of communication with Jett; her inability to tell him her true feeling and her stubbornness, is the crux of the problem in this story. She has no regard as to whether or not he's behaviour is right or wrong and won’t listen to him, and this irritated me no end. Why he won't come clean and clear up a few points with her, I found very frustrating, too! In a nutshell, all this guy has managed to do is sow confusion!

A looming future as a single parent with strangling debts and now no stable job doesn't stop her from leaving him. She’s made a new friend who suggests that she tries out a job which sounds a little ominous, but what choice does she have? Will she even consider it under the circumstances in which she finds herself? Get ready; the author is going to take us on a helter-skelter ride where you’ll definitely be in for a surprise or two. You will be left with gaping mouths when you discover who the drop-dead gorgeous man is in the sleazy club where Brooke’s friend insisted they go to? Furthermore, Brooke becomes persona non compos mentis after someone for reasons unknown to us, does an unscrupulous action in the same place. To say that this well described part of the book didn't put me on tenterhooks would be an understatement! There is certainly more than meets the eye here and the only way to know who is behind this, is by reading follow-up.

As always, the author’s explicit description of the hot, sexy scene is brilliant. However, I did feel that a little more banter between the two protagonists was necessary. There is no doubt that the plot is solid which in itself, is the recipe for a good story, and the cliffy was exactly what I would expect from her. I am really looking forward to the next instalment. Amy's Review:
Brooke is back and crazier than ever. The Lover's Secret was book one in this No Exceptions series and The Lover's Game followed suit.

At the end of the last book, Brooke was heartbroken. Jett, being the asshat he is, burned her yet again. Deciding it was time to pull up her big girl panties and better herself, Brooke decides it is time to leave Jett in the wind. Pregnant, heartbroken, monetarily broken and alone, Brooke was a freight. Thankfully, Brooke has friends new and old she can turn to during this time. What does any good girl friend suggest when her friend is having man problems?? Going out, girls night, drinking and fun.

Strange events cause Brooke to question her decisions and her sanity through out this book. I loved the way she stood her ground regarding Jett. I believe a hearty wallet and a good smile do not make a man ... Jett needs to go for good!

While I felt The Lover's Game was written well and continued the great character development with these characters. I felt this piece of the story line was not necessary. None of the questions Brooke left Lover's Secret with were answered and that is what I was looking for most. I am hoping the next installment in this series has more insight into Jett and what he is trying to hide.

Synopsis:
When love is a game...

After having her heart broken, Brooke tries to rebuild her life and closes herself off from the one man she loved deeply.
When she meets Grayson, a photographer, she has no idea that her new boss will offer her more than she bargained for. The pay is great, her new friends more than welcoming and everything seems to be running well…until everyone insists she find herself a new suitor during a night out.

Jett knows how to play games. He is used to getting attention from everyone except the beautiful dark haired woman who doesn’t like to be fooled with and doesn’t trust him as far as she can spit. He wants Brooke but, more than that, he wants to own her, and the only way to get her is to make her owe him…against her will.

And what Jett owns, Jett keeps forever.

Ok, I need more. I am desperate for more. This series, these books, this author… grabbed a hold of me and hasn’t let go. Brooke’s crazy life is just about to do me in and I love every minute of it.

Brooke discovered so much at the end of The Lover’s Secret that now she has to find her way all over again. Jett just leaves too much to trust. He wants Brooke to trust him, but can she? After everything she has learned she knows this love is such a dangerous game. Not only with the inherited property but with his brother, with her baby and with her heart. I want the two of them to find their way and stay together, but with each twist and turn in the series it just seems so unlikely.

But now Brooke is forced to put her life back together. She has accumulated so much debt and she knows that she needs to get that taken care of. She knows she has a baby on the way and everything has been destroyed between her and Jett. But can it really be as easy as meeting a photographer that can help her out in her bind?

Can she trust him? Can she find a way to make her life work without it getting even messier and complicated?

Do I believe that Jett and Brooke will find their happily ever after? At this point, I am going to have to say, I have absolutely no freaking idea. These two have been through so much but why is Jet keeping so many secrets from her? She has nothing to gain except his heart. She has everything to lose. The bigger question is how long can the battle rage between the two of them? There is one binding factor that Brooke will never break free from and that is the piece of Jett that is residing within her. He is in her heart and she is carrying his child, but how much crazier can their situation get and it all seems to come back to one thing… that dang property.

As with all of the other books that J.C. Reed has written, I just find myself wanting more. I want more to this story, I want more of their lives… and I think deep down inside, I want Jett to be the standup guy that Brooke deserves and I want Brooke to be able to trust him. But Jett hasn’t given Brooke a lot of choices in the matter. Trust him or don’t. Stay with him or run. There really seems to be no grey area in their messed up situation. I love the writing and the story line, but each time I finish a book, I am just desperate for more! J.C. Reed does such an amazing job captivating attention and stealing hearts and This book is no exception… but alas, it always comes back to one thing… I want more!

REVIEW: 3.75 stars--THE LOVER’S GAME is the second instalment in J.C.Reed’s No Exceptions series continuing the story of Brooke and Jett that began in her popular SURRENDER YOUR LOVE series. Part two follows Brooke as she endeavors to start her life anew now that she has walked away from the only man she has ever love. Betrayal and heartbreak follow Brooke just as she learns to love again.

The storyline continues immediately on the heels of The Lover’s Secret. As Brooke and Jett continue to rekindle their relationship, Brooke is blindsided when she discovers that Jett has not only lied but has betrayed and humiliated Brooke with his dishonesty and secrets. Brooke sets out to even the score only to realize that her thoughts continually go back to Jett.

THE LOVER’S GAME main focus is on Brooke. Because the novel has been broken down into novella size storylines in serial format, the premise finds Brooke pondering her future – alone. As she attempts to set into motion a new path, she finds herself, yet again, the victim of betrayal and revenge. Trust must be earned and everyone she meets is not worthy of her trust. Our heroine places herself into some precarious situations and revenge is the first thing on her mind.

J.C.Reed spins a tale of anguish and pain. There are no romantic overtures or sensual seductions. Part two is a building block into the next instalment.

What I Loved: Okay after the major cliff hanger at the end of The Lover’s Secret I couldn’t wait to dive right into this one. We meet up with Brooke right after the first book ends, with her heart decimated and having no real plan of attack on how to deal with it all. I can definitely say on some level I really feel for Brooke. I can’t imagine being in a serious relationship with someone, having a baby with them and really just scratching the surface of their life. Jett is hot and sexy and all that, but he definitely holds back still and it’s more evident in this series I think than perhaps the Surrender Your Love series. I think the frustration with that comes off so eloquently that I feel just as frustrated as Brooke does at moments. I love when I’m so engrossed in a story that I’m just as mad as the main character or just as happy and I can definitely say while reading this one I felt just as shattered as Brooke did.

Not So Much:Alright, I’m just going to say this and I kind of am mad at myself for feeling this way but I just can’t help the way I feel. As this series has gone on, I think I actually like Brooke less and less. I’m totally over her constant distrust of Jett, a part of me understands it because he has lead such a crazy life and has so many secrets but enough is enough. You’re living with him, you’re having a baby with him and you can’t even just sit back and wait for his explanation without jumping to some pretty irrational and downright insulting conclusions. I get the denial and wanting to run from you problems, but it’s a reoccurring theme that’s becoming tired in the Jett and Brooke story. It’s just too warn out for me and I would have appreciated something more fresh. Also on a side note, I don’t want to give anything away but at a certain point Brooke acts very irresponsibly for a pregnant woman and I was really pissed that it was kind of casually addressed. It’s not so much that she made the mistake as much as that it’s not a huge issue for her, when it should be a physical concern for her health and the baby’s.
